he ain't signing an extension

We blew that chance two years ago. Should have signed him to an extension after his rookie season, before he broke out into a stud TOR guy.

And if he would bite on an extension, he’d blow his arm out on his next start

Which is why I’m not sure he wouldn’t sign an extension. If I was his agent I’d tell him to give it serious consideration. Any pitcher getting offered a pay day 3.9 years early should seriously consider it. Especially if his career to date earnings are less than 3M.

Also- the only thing worse than a Sunday off, or 4th of July or Labor Day off, is a random Friday. These things make me surly.

Yep, and as a pitcher he will have another shot at a big FA payday

I don’t know how we managed to get shafted with an annual trip to Minnesota in April, but it blows. Feels like it’s every year now…some sort of perverse punishment for the MDM in 2017.

Martin Maldonado has a higher BA than Yordan Alvarez right now

and our heroes are just 1 game under .500.

Yeah.  That sucks too.

Both Bregman and Tucker are hitting over .300 right now, maybe this team should look into what changed for them. I don't think it's the field, it's likely more to do with coaching and the approach at the plate. Might be time to make some changes around the clubhouse...

The lack of production hasn't improved at newly minted Dalkon Shield Park.  That's way the fuck more than 30PA's.  Not even trash cans or buzzers could overcome that shit, as opposed to productivity on the road.

He didn’t make dick for a signing bonus and after this year he will have made about 2.5M total as a big leaguer.
6/100 would be the equivalent of a 3 year 65M or so extension- as it’s likely his arbitration awards will be something like 5M in year 1, 10M in year 2 and 15M in year 3.

Never gonna happen.

After paying LMJ to do nothing, Crane is not going to turn around and negotiate against himself and give away four years of control for two years in the cheap.

Astros ain't gonna offer anything for two years... And if he's healthy, he ain't signing unless it's a crazy deal that a new owner offers.

Agreed. That’s a really good number on the extension though as people are pretty equally split between no way he would take that and no way crane would do that.

Do you see the Astros offering any extension or long-term contract to some of the young core (Hunter Brown, Spencer Arrighetti, Smith or Peña)? -- @VegaBlu1980

General manager Dana Brown was quick to sign pitcher Cristian Javier to a five-year, $64 million extension in his first spring on the job in 2023 and said at the time he was going to be aggressive in locking up the team’s younger players, such as Tucker. It hasn’t happened. First, it takes two to consummate a deal and the Astros are in a bit of a penny-pinching mode this season with so much dead money on the books. I think they’ll certainly try to sign Arrighetti and Smith, but Peña (under control through 2027) and Brown (through 2028) might be harder, especially with Brown recently hiring Scott Boras to represent him.

I really hope Smith isn't a spring training wonder who is a bust in the regular season. He looked totally overmatched in his AB.

Just a reminder that Bregman started his career 2-38 and then finished the season with a .931 OPS, of course, the Astros had better coaching in 2016 than they do now.
