2025 Texas Football - Road Trips to Away Games

I've already got Columbus booked August 28 to 31 for Ohio State game and Athens Nov 14 to 16 for Georgia game.

I've never been to either campus/city.

Other possibilities are:

Mississippi State

Kentucky

Florida

I'm leaning towards adding in the Kentucky game.

Who else is going and to which games?

Any recommendations for Columbus and Athens?

I'm seriously considering Kentucky. The bluegrass is a such a good part of the country.

Columbus isn't a bad town. The Short North is a neat neighborhood.

Kentucky is a must. The rolling hills, beautiful horse farms, and bourbon distilleries are incredible. Lexington was a neat college town but that was 13 years ago so who the hell knows what that place is like now.

Doing Columbus 2.0 and Athens for sure since I live in Atlanta. Still debating between Florida and Kentucky.

I think Florida is (or was) a more iconic brand and I’ve seen a billion games from Ben Hill Griffin on TV so as far as gameday I think that would be the better call. However, I think Kentucky would be a much cooler trip overall. Whichever one I don’t do this time I’ll definitely do when we play there next.

Went to Starkville in 1991 and I think that’s probably enough for this lifetime…

I booked my trip to Athens last week.  I go back and forth for Columbus, but am leaning against it.  I haven't closed the door on Miss St, but that is looking unlikely.  Any conference championship games and bowls are automatic.

the ticket prices are absolutely ridiculous

It’s not even April. Tickets for Michigan were crazy at this time last year too. They fell below face by game time.

Man I hope so. When I saw the prices I was like yeah, I'm gonna have to pass on these. Hopefully they'll start to go down.

What a shitty no touchdowns game that was.

As far as trips go, OSU, Kentucky and Florida would be the order of my priority. Gonna pass in OSU this go around but I talked in depth about Kentucky being a great trip on another thread. For a extended trip with some driving, its for sure the best on the schedule.

I've spent enough time in Mississippi. Unless work forces me back there, I won't be returning.

Georgia fans are the worst in the SEC, yes, I include the sheep farmers, Sister Daughter Wives and Bitchin' Camaro folks in that stack. If you know, you know.

Georgia fans are top 5 of my shittiest fans ranking as well. I have a feeling they'll move up based on a road game there.

They’re certainly entiitled.

Going to Columbus for sure, thinking about Athens.

Y’all are talking me into Kentucky though.

That Kentucky game is already giving strong vibes of being like last year's Vandy game - 70% Texas fans excited about a fun new away trip, and a non-football school that's happy to sell us tickets.

Wife and I are going to Columbus. We're staying at the Renaissance Columbus Downtown. Hoping to see it full of Longhorns so we don't have to put up with the stupid OH chants.

My group of a dozen is going to Athens.  I'm also going to Lexington. Of course, helps that my daughter (no pics) lives there.  Lex is a fun town and the horse country is beautiful. About the size of Austin when I was at UT in the early 80's. Keeneland Fall Meet is racing which is an added bonus for that weekend.

Went to Columbus in 2005, that's enough. Would like to go to Florida, but Fla, ou, and UK three straight weekends might be a bit much.

I live an hour away from the SWAMP , so I’ll be going to that one. If you need info on Gainesville let me know. It’s not the most exciting place to go.

Been to both the shoe and sanford.

Can’t beat pageantry of a BiG10 halftime show and Columbus. Although the shoe doesn’t get that loud for it’s capacity.

Athens is just a great college town. Biased bc my wife went to UGA and her family has had tickets for decades. Fans are generally very friendly.

I’ll be in Athens bc I don’t think I’ll leave the game in Columbus without fighting someone; and I’m too old to catch a case.

I’ve always liked to march to my own beat and make decisions irrespective of other opinions, but I am heeding all of the feedback about attending the Ohio State game. People who went in 2005 have always commented about how disgusted they were by the OSU fans throughout the experience. Normally we go to big away games but … nope. It helps that I’ve been to Columbus on business trips a few times and do not find the place compelling. @texifornia has always defended the place when it’s discussed, but he and I travel different. I give every place a chance to endear me to it, but I don’t need to find charm if it’s hiding from me. I view that town as mid-American nothingness.

Going to Kentucky via a stayover in Louisville. We’re going with a Louisville native, who attended UK, and her husband, who played under Mumme at UK. We’re going to be shown the in’s, out’s and what-have-you’s. Excited. We should all meet up.

Going to Georgia and expecting great hospitality until Texas wins. Georgia fans were treated right in Austin and still acted like asses after the win.

Have no plans of ever attending anything in Starkville.

I want to go to Gainesville, but not enough to plan ahead. We’ll make that decision as we get closer, and if we have to pay premiums for that, so be it. Trying to figure out a reason beyond the game to feel compelled to make the trip.

We will also be traveling to the OU game with our full brood, per the usual.

Never going back to Columbus after that 2005 game. Biggest group of white trash degenerates I've ever seen. Entire city of human garbage living vicariously through their local college football teams. Tossing beers, getting in peoples faces, and randomly trying to start fights. And it was straight up dangerous after the game - some fans told us to not leave right away and asked us to avoid the main road in front of frat row.

Booked a hotel in Gainesville a few months ago when the schedule came out. Might do that since supposedly the Swamp is a neat experience.

To be fair, Cincinnati is the one I usually defend. Columbus isn't nearly as interesting.

Then scream out TEXAS! As loud as you can.

Mulling Lexington right now. What’s the hotel situation up there?

The best hotels are the 21c Museum, The Sire, and The Marriott in or near downtown LEX. Next level down are the Hilton and Hyatt downtown. But those might be booked by now.  Keeneland racing meet and Horse Sales are ongoing and a lot of people come in for that. There are plenty of Courtyards, Hampton Inns, etc. in Lex. Just try to stay inside of Circle Rd. Another option is to stay in horse country. Some nice places in Versailles (pronounced Ver-sails), Midway, or Paris. All are less than 20 minute drive.

Georgia fans are fine, they’re just spoiled by all of that success recently….

They have near Ohio State levels of grad vs t shirt fan divide. The grads are fine, the bandwagoners are barely literate rednecks.

My initial plans are to attend tOSU, Florida, and Georgia this year - but that is assuming I can get approval from the wife for three games this year (the kids are still too young for big games that I have to travel to).

Stay at the AC Hotel or SpringHill Suites in Bridge Park if you go to the OSU game if they have rooms. Ticket prices for the game will fall but nowhere close to Michigan prices.

Lexington is a smaller city, but it has a goodly amount of hotels within walking distance. Checked the other day and got a $300ish per night rate. If you want to go book a hotel with free cancelation now. They are limited and will get really expensive. Lexington is a remarkably cool city with shockingly good food. The people are pretty intense about their football ball but not in the extreme. If I was going to pick a similar fan base from Big XII I would probably say Kansas State or ISU. Knowledgeable, very into the game, young folks will be stupid but in all a fun experience. Co-eds are substantially better than KSU or ISU or OSU... its um... surprisingly good in that regard.

The real value is the surrounding area/world. From horses to bourbon I firmly believe Kentucky is one of the most underrated states for topography in the US. The rolling farm hills going into Appalachia are truly amazing.

This is a very holding call.

Yeah, like Ohio State you also get the "townies" from ATL.

I personally think the grads are arrogantly insufferable, but not dangerous. Saw a few shit talking sessions rolling out of the SEC champ game. Ended up connecting with a townie and going out for a while on the way out.

So... I guess I am a complete hypocrite in hating their arrogance, warning of their insufferable nature, then connecting with one after the game for a calm bar room gibberish session on college football.

Dammit!

Sure sounds like Im a gay too... nttiawwt.
