Negligent homicide after a sucker punch still seems pretty fucking bad. Lol

To clarify, it wasn’t a sucker punch in its purest form. The two had been messaging each other for a week or so challenging each other to a fight. The punch wasn’t from behind when he wasn’t looking. Just two guys jawing back and forth and the victim just off and clocked him when no one was expecting it.

Not familiar with this.  What was the time delay between the sucker punch and the stabbing? Negligent homicide seems like an odd outcome for a stabbing (not sure of Texas specific statute nuances).  Compromise verdict or did it seem to fit the facts?

I think it’s definitely an odd outcome. It was a pretty immediate reaction with the stab. However, video appeared to show that when the defendant fell to the ground, he had the knife out and ready really quick, like maybe already opened in his pocket.

ETA: I think it might have been a compromise verdict of some sort.
