Haha. Need to learn the accent from my Canadian friend ASAP.

FWIW, I've started using the word "washroom", which is more accurate description than "restroom".

Penny wise and pound foolish, the lot of you.

I'm taking this opportunity to sell my wife, kids, pets, the house, the cars, and any depreciable assets lying around.  I'll then be grabbing a fly rod and tackle, a change of underwear, and a bottle or two of the good stuff and riding a Triumph Bonneville down Mexico way.   No half measures.

Repaired my  breathable fishing waders myself vs spending $600 on some nice Simms.

Jerk off Manually.

Downgraded on Hotels for upcoming trips, and just hunted for cheaper options.

Renegotiated all insurances back in Jan. I recommend this every 2-4 years. And don't just do price.  Look at total costs. If you are prone to hail or flooding you want a provider that pays and doesn't require litigation.  PM if you need recs.

Tightened up our streaming subs. My Fil and I both have YTTV and he's here 3 weeks a month, we can share the 6 days a month when goes to OC or I can miss a non playoff game.

More smoothies at home vs $12 at Juiceland.

Wife and I like Lunch dates.  Found  all the good local specials and just order water.

Man we all got old.

For me it was great when I got dog food and treats for two giant labs, and diaper stuff for an infant, and used to smoke a lot of meat. And did a lot of meal prep.

It was counter productive when my kid grew up, I have 100lbs of Halibut and 50 lbs of Elk and  worst of all my current wife would buy $100 worth of shit we didn't need.

However my in laws in Cali use the fuck out it because they don't have Heb; and enertain all the time

Also... damn we have too many streaming services.  I'm going to ask the family to pick at least one to axe.  All that crap adds up.

Expand

There is an ad-tier of Netflix that is $8 per month rather than $18.  Also, if you have Hulu and cancel, they will offer it to you for $3 per month for six months.  Cancel on the six month and they'll offer you another 6 months at $3 per month.  The Bear has one more season.  I can deal with $3.

The family was on a trip to Santa Fe over Spring Break in 2020 - when the world was just starting to spin out of control.  First stop was the grocery store since we were staying at a VRBO.  Passed a lady with a cart completely full of large bottles and boxes of wine.  Absolutely nothing else in the cart.

During the early panic buying of COVID, I saw an old man with a grocery basket full of off-brand Ho-Hos and Ding Dongs---Little Debbie type shit.  A friend of mine saw a local District Judge with a basket full of Coke Zero and cured hams.

My kids were telling me about something called water pie that was made during the Depression. So I guess I'll check that out.

We're already more frugal than most for our income level. I'll probably finally cut back on streaming services. We hardly go out to eat as it is but will watch that. We probably waste the most on letting groceries get thrown out. Seems like there's some savings to be had or at least some better planning to do there.

I'm going to try and maintain our savings rate assuming we don't have a job loss or something else drastic. I really hope to keep retirement plans on track, but who the hell knows what's still to come.

Got rid of most subscriptions on phone (audible, nordVPN, MyFitnessPal, Blinkest, etc).

Probably going to get rid of game pass and humblebundle monthly this weekend.

Going to just stream F1 and baseball this year (already have nba league pass).

Went through all credit cards to make sure no other reoccurring surprises. Made sure to move everything to just 1 card.

Clearly, you do not shop at Whole Foods.

Expand

I don’t.  HEB when it’s open.  You can eat healthy shopping at wal mart.  But wherever you shop, it’s cheaper to buy real food and eat healthy than it is to by processed crap.  Water is cheaper than sugar drinks.  Rice and beans are cheap.  Chicken is cheap.  Frozen veggies are cheap.  A spaghetti squash is cheap.  Whatever fruits and veggies are in season are cheap.    You don’t have to buy organic out of season produce or grass fed filets to eat healthy.

Everyone talks about cutting out their television, but what do you all do if your world revolves around sports?

I'm not following games on gamecast on my phone.  Fuck that.  I can definitely cut back on eating out and ordering in, though.

I've made all of my changes and have not missed one football game I wanted to watch, and actually gained access to some extra ones.
If you like college basketball, you almost have to have ESPN +, especially Big XII games( understood, that's not many folks on here any more.)
pro baseball is the challenge, and it solved with reliable streaming.
