Ideology really has nothing to do with this.

Why is this a shitty hill to die on?

Where did you get the idea Garcia is out of the Gulag? Because they let him out to meet the senator and let him wear what he was kidnapped in for the pictures? Bukkake said in a tweet that he's remaining in their custody.

the hill to die on is the hill that survives a 72-hour news cycle

in a brisket-normal timeline the signalgate hearings would be underway

but that was just amateur incompetence

blackbagging is pure evil and as we saw at grassley's town hall, the base is not unified on this feature

we started hearing "this is not the hill to die on" 36 hours ago - it's clearly a magapoint they were hoping would take hold and get this crisis in to remission

they've announced a tariff deal with europe and a few others

they've professed their dissatisfaction with BOTH z and puto

the irs / bessent / musk / powell dogwags are not repressing kilmar

and now the demonloompahs have their worst fear imagined - we're going in to the weekend talking head cycle with a dem SENATOR fighting back and going to war on the cheetos

The SCOTUS ruling was kind of a punt.  I think that's actually a contributing factor.

No, public opinion is reinforced by the media, that's what you are missing. People WANT this guy deported illegally and WANT it to be problematic. Look at the white house tweet.

The problem right now is humoring these people who are clearly too fucking stupid to function.

Looks like @Huckleberry said what I was saying, I just don't agree that dogpiling is the right way to wake these people up and keep them around. The way this goes down is you run people off, running people off accomplishes nothing.

again, it's like spotting aggy 2 scores to give them their guaranteed moral victory so they will want to stick around for their proper beating

The effect of the supreme court ruling (besides changing words used) was basically to ask the lower court to better clarify what it wants.  Which the lower court can't do effectively because anything it actually commands, so-to-speak, will get overturned.   So everyone is now playing a game of last liar.

What do you think the SCOTUS ruling did?

Demonizing all the browns is the play for these fucking evil fucksticks.  And has been.  For a long fucking time.  Find a crime committed by a brown.  Impute that crime to all browns, call all browns "invaders" and "vermin" who are "poisoning the blood of our country."

Which is exactly how you get this:

And this:

hqdefault.jpg

Quote

Following the attack, a classmate at Ikner’s former school, Tallahassee State College, claimed to a local news outlet how the suspect was told to leave a “political round table” club over far-right views he shared.

Reid Seybold said Ikner “espoused so much white supremacist rhetoric, and far-right rhetoric as well, to the point where we had to exercise that rule.”

This is absolutely all going according to plan: terrorize the brown population (cuz they ain't real 'muricans, none of 'em), force them to self-deport, flee, segregate from the rest of society (read: hide, so they don't get fucking nabbed, beaten, or shot -- by the cops or by functionally deputized supporters of the regime who are doing their patriotic duty by getting the mud people out of our country one way or the other).

That play is, of course, the exact play that society ran on black people in the Jim Crow era.  Terrorizing and demonizing a group is a time-honored play, with known, predictable, inhuman and bloody outcomes.  And....this part is important: America has proven, over and over again, that as a whole, we are a-ok with it.

You either resist it and fight against it, or you're fucking okay with it.  Yeah, it's that fucking binary.

FIF accuracy.

If you were to poll the planet on who is the "most untrustworthy potential partner," we'd be approaching the top of that list.

One of the greatest components of the value of any enterprise is "goodwill," which is made up of trust, respect, reliability, and the like.  In almost every possible way, in almost every possible venue, in almost every possible aspect of our dealings with other people, we have nuked every one of those things.  The damage can never be repaired, and our nation will be significantly poorer for it for generations.

The Texas district judge in question is James Wesley Hendrix, a Trump appointee that broadly lacks the "hack cred" that most of the minions have.

Still appalling.

Also, Chad Meacham is the acting USA ND Tex.  He's been an AUSA for a long time, like 20 years, and by most accounts a pretty solid guy if a bit of a tough on crime true believer.  Will be interesting to see how robustly his office represents the Administration.  Oh, also he was acting during most of the Biden Administration, as well.

Some addendum to this.  Hendrix' order denying the TRO in Texas.  https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/69898198/27/aarp-v-trump/

"But the government’s response confirms that it has no present plans to remove either petitioner until the habeas petition is resolved and that it will notify the Court if that changes. Dkt. No. 19 at 12–13. The government once again confirmed its continued belief that “the requirement for judicial review includes a process for affording notice and opportunity to be heard prior to being removed under AEA authority” and that once “that opportunity to be heard has been satisfied, removal may proceed unless a court orders otherwise.” Id. at 13. The government further provided a declaration from Yousef Khan, Assistant Field Office Director for the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who stated that “ICE does not intend to remove A.A.R.P. or W.M.M. under the AEA while their habeas petitions are pending.”"

That seems to be some pretty affirmative shit from the government.  Almost acting lawful.

HOWEVER, what it says is that the two named plaintiffs will not be deported, but the petition represents a class of persons, namely those held in ND Tex pending deportation.  Gubmint doesn't say a thing about them.  Also, it says "under AEA," which leaves some wiggle room for removal/deportation under some other bullshit.

Of course, one response to this by the court would be to actually enjoin them from doing what they say they won't do, along with the other putative class members.  Bit hard to argue with that or appeal.

JBJ is digging in his heels a bit, but this is what I'm talking about when ideologues start running people off. His first post isn't that inflammatory and not something a ton of people disagree with.

I also think this is a shitty hill to die on, but unlike JBJ do think it's a required hill to die on.

In all honesty if he's out of the gulag and just in El Salvador as a free man everyone should let cooler heads prevail and just fucking drop it. It sucks for him, but also there's a part of this where the stance of "fuck him he's not some saint who was working hard to naturalize or something." Is valid, I'm not saying I agree with it, but it's definitely a not absurd take.

I personally would like him to come back and have his due process, ultimately I do believe he will get deported anyway, but getting out of the gulag is the main sticking point for me for this case, and all the others.

Unfortunately this case doesn't call into question the legality of the gulag, just the means of which he was deported there etc.

you pick the weirdest people to Stan for.

There is a huge difference in driving a child with the purpose of having them get raped vs driving adult males to a construction job.  Do you really think that is a technicality?  WTF

Possibly more importantly, an adult driving around with 8 unrelated kids is less susceptible to innocent explanation than an adult Hispanic male driving around with 8 adult Hispanic males, which is pretty consistent with things other than human trafficking.

Sure, adult humans can be trafficked for all sorts of nefarious purposes (see Wire, Season 2), but it usually involves restraint or other coercion, like weapons.

That's some highly shiesty evidence of human trafficking.

The argument coming from our government seems to be "Only certain people have rights". Even criminals have rights.

If you are suspected of having done something, or if they don't like your tattoo, you have no rights and can be shipped off to live the rest of your life in a camp. And our president is talking about doing it with US citizens. People who were born here. Based on.... what? Who knows what it will be next.
