I saw Quan Cosby in person his junior year absolutely destroy Boyd in the state championship game. I was young but I was convinced he was the next Mike Vick. He also played safety and sent 2 different Boyd wrs out of the game on a stretcher

I remember reading the recaps of his games on the Hornfans recruiting forum. Hell, maybe it was GoBig12, I don’t know. But they were as covered in dramatic hyperbole as any that have ever been produced. William Wallace hasn’t been as glorified.

Then I read that he was short, playing 2A and probably getting drafted by MLB. “Well, cross him off the list, then.” Then that dude showed up years later and was a God send for the program. Perhaps the stories were all true. Would like to have seen him, in hindsight.

Probably hornfans. I remember the same and was never on gobig12.

Jamaal Charles was insane (duh) in High School.  And not the typical track star where they pitch it to him on a sweep and they go to the sideline and just out run everyone.

Between the tackles run plays in traffic that became 70 yard touchdowns regularly.

They had a Saturday afternoon game on a hot humid day on a soggy field against a Westfield team with D1 players and he went for 400 yards and 5 TD’s.

Quick Google search turned this up:

Yeah Quan Cosby against 2A competition was unfair. That's a good one. IIRC his brother was a damn good 2A player, too, and the two of them basically never left the field.

Don’t know why I remember this stat, but his senior year Quan Cosby returned 14 punts and took 7 of them back for touchdowns. I know it’s 2A, but that’s insane…which is probably why that stat has stayed with me.

Tavon Austin had one of the best High school highlights I ever seen

But since I played DB in school I loved Cody Riggs from St.Thomas Aquinas highlights

That team also had All Big 12 Baylor LB John Garret at fullback/MLB/kick returner

He dominated every sport he played. He is legitimately one of the best Texas high school athletes of all time.

Before HUDL,

Orenthal James Simpson (say what you want, best RB ever.) ,Tony Dorsett, Joe Washingtom "Smoke through a key hole", previously mentioned Earl, Billy Sims (people arrived at his HS games at 4:00 to get a seat), Emmitt Smith, Eric Metcalf, John Elway, Dan Marino, Lawrence Taylor.

The Sunday Paper used to have a Parade circular in it; their "Faces in the Crowd" highlighted a few noteworthy HS athletes (see above). Sports Illustrated was a great magazine back in the day.

Cory Redding was a man child. They asked a HS recruit if was going to tell him to go to Texas. His response, and I'm paraphrasing here. "I'm not telling him shit! That's a full grown man over there! He scares me."

Tommy Kramer was the first NFL QB I saw play in HS. First time I ever saw someone through a football like that.

Best high school player I ever seen.

Jorvorskie Lane.  Just fucking dominant.  Don't think of the aggy Lane, but in high school he was just a badass motherfucker.  Punted too.

He literally threw our center at our QB for a sack/fumble. I’ve told the story many times, but I’ve never seen anything like it.

How do you leave out the part that he literally made the center cry?  That's the best part of the story.

A friend of mine has the best high school tape of all time. It’s a VHS tape of the highlights of the James Madison High School quarterback from 2001.

Derrick Henry highlights are the epitome of a grown ass man playing against children

I wonder if they'll think he is/was good enough to be enshrined in the HOF? Dude is a freak.

I still have my *Recruits in Review VHS tape if VY's class.  Iirc, there was someone in that TX class who had tape as sick as Vince's.  Now I've got to go find it.

*I think that's what it was called.

My buddy coached at Hightower and Vince blew them out in the 4th round that year. My buddy said not considering grades that Hightower had 8 D1 level defensive guys and Vince had a pair of 50+yd td runs where my buddy said "We wouldn't have gotten him down if it was touch football "
