I'm looking for a home safe. Not too big, but big enough to store my passports from various countries, 500K Euros and a handgun. Must be bolt-down and be fireproof enough. Something that can't be cut open too easily.

Any suggestions? I know some of you have gun safes so figured I'd ask here.

That seems like a lot of Euros for a home safe...  I certainly wouldn't post about that on the internet.  The only advice that I can give would be to buy the biggest safe you can.  You will fill it up and then it's a real pain in the balls to get a bigger one.

oh one more thing, get a fire safe for inside your safe.  They are cheap and will keep things in a fire much longer since the temp inside the safe will already be much lower.

Speaking from experience, I would strongly discourage you from bolting down your safe. It's a false sense of security. You need a safe big enough you can weigh down to make moving it too much of a hassle. Also needs to be solid enough it cannot be broken into with a tool. Are you more worried about a smash and grab or an organized hit?

Xzibit would agree.

Bolting down helps. I've seen pictures of people adding steel plates to make it heavier, also a video where someone reinforced his safe with mesh and quickcrete, making it heavier, fireproof and harder to cut open. I'd prefer not to do anything based on a 5-minute video.

I live in a pretty safe area and don't expect a Neil McCauley crew to hit my house. It's more for documents and some jewelry.

Put the Euros in a bank dude... 🤣

I have a safety deposit box at my bank so most of the valuables are there.

The safe if for stuff I infrequently use, but don't want the hassle of going to the bank to get them ever 3-6 months I want to use them. I'm not planning on keeping the Hope Diamond at home.

And seriously... have you guys never watched Bourne Identity?

Quickly skimming unread threads and thought for a fraction of a second you were asking for advice on bolt-ons.

Thought it was a brave move, considering your recent residency on the couch.

But now?

I am disappoint.

Dude, you just put a dummy safe in an obvious spot and then hide the real safe that holds the goodies. For good measure take a dump in the dummy safe so that when the burglars cut it open they’re all excited only to be like, “oh gross what is that? I think it’s poop!” It might suck living in a house with a safe full of shit in it but def worth the sacrifice.

You need more guns.

Seriously though, I wouldn't consider any safe fire proof. Last year I bought a Winchester 26 for guns and to hold copies of important documents. Anything valuable goes in a safety deposit box.
