Absolutely ZERO chance play is stopped to review if that were the Stars or really anyone but 29.  No official saw it at all.  I'm not sure what it looked like on TV but it was bizarre from the arena.  If that happens to anyone else the ref shrugs, says he didn't see it, and it's just another missed call (that happens all the time).

On TV it was clear as day and I was very surprised it didn't get called right away. But it was a clear penalty.  I guess you're mad that it wasn't called initially? They discussed the rule that allows officials to make that call after the fact on the broadcast.

I have an awful feeling that Montreal is going to beat the shit out of Washington this series. Hope I’m wrong but I think the Caps are so fucking overrated. Not playing good hockey right now.

actually, that's incorrect. they have to call it a double minor initially, and only then can it be reviewed and it will either be upheld or the penalty withdrawn. a single minor is not an option. what most who are not looking at things through burgundy and blue glasses are upset about is that no call was made initially, until MacKinnon protested. the call was made after a conclave of referees, and then reviewed. it's speculation to say only Mac gets that call, but it certainly seemed to help in this case.

They've been overachieving all season.  Don't know if it was pushing hard for Ovi or what, but they aren't that good.

Yeah, they got together, called it a double minor and then reviewed it and upheld it.  That's how it is supposed to work. And it was a clear penalty, so I'm not sure what the issue is?

I'm not debating it is technically allowed.  I'm saying nobody other than MacKinnon or McDavid would actually get the superstar treatment to stop live play a good 8-10 seconds after the fact when a ref obviously didn't see it live.  Because from the arena it was very clear they didn't see it and stopped play after MacKinnon lobbied for it at length while play was continuing on opposite side of the ice.

My guess is that he showed the refs his bleeding face so they made the call and then reviewed it.  I'd guess that would happen with just about anyone on the ice. Or it should, anyway.

That's laughable.  I don't think I've ever seen live play stopped like that well after the fact.  I've seen plenty of missed high sticks where the offended player complains to the ref and they basically shrug and say they didn't see it.   I don't know the broadcast view but this was all happening right in front of me.  Colorado had possession and was attacking and 29 just stayed on the other end and bitched at the ref until he finally blew the whistle.  I mean yes, the right call was made in the end, but I don't recall ever seeing a player call his own penalty like that.

And for 2 minute minors it never will be called.  But he got smoked in the face and started bleeding almost immediately.

no, actually, they're not supposed to call things after the fact. that's the whole point Skipper and I are making. There was no raised arm or delayed penalty. Only until Mac started whining did they stop play, the got together, and then called the penalty. that's not supposed to happen.

The rules allow them do to exactly what they did.  Maybe tell your players to keep their sticks down?

I'm not debating the rules.  I'm saying it's rich complaining about refs when you have 2 guys that get superstar treatment consistently by the refs and citing this as evidence.   To be clear, 29 wasn't writhing in pain on the ice injured.  He was standing and bitching to an official while his team had possession on the complete opposite end of the ice until the ref finally blew the play dead.   The point is if that is literally anyone else for either team, the ref almost certainly just shrugs and tells them they didn't see it and skates back down to the action.  I mean it's a side benefit of employing arguably the best player in the league.  I'm jealous.

no it fucking doesn't. the rules allow a linesman, not the referee, to report an infraction missed by the ref. but it does not allow for a missed call to get called because a player lobbies. the ref didn't see it, but he's the one that stopped play, not the linesman.

The Linesperson must report upon completion of play, any
circumstances pertaining to:
(vi) Major penalties
(vii) Match penalties
(viii) Misconduct penalties
(ix) Game Misconduct penalties
(x) Abuse of Officials
(xi) Physical Abuse of Officials
(xii) Unsportsmanlike Conduct
Rule 20
Rule 21
Rule 22
Rule 23
Rule 39
Rule 40
Rule 75
Should a Linesperson witness an infraction (above) committed by
an attacking player (undetected by the Referees) prior to the attacking
team scoring a goal, the Linesperson shall report what he witnessed
to the Referees, the goal shall be disallowed and the appropriate
penalty assessed.
The Linesperson must stop play immediately and report to the
Referees when:
(xii) When it is apparent that an injury has resulted
from a high-stick that has gone undetected by
the Referees and requires the assessment of a
double-minor penalty.

That's a lot of words.  You could have just said you're mad the Stars didn't get away with a blatant penalty.  Would have been quicker.

I didn't complain about the refs, I said Marchment is a flopping ass bitch.  And I stand by that.  You guys are the ones whinging about the refs.

Bonus for Beau Vine that he gets his favorite announcers on this call.

Moser's not bad; his biggest problem is having to share a booth with an assclown.  You know what would make my ears bleed?  Rycroft paired with Jack Edwards.

Fucking hell, talk about a ricochet shot. He’s developed a speech impediment which is why he retired. He was a good shit and fucking hated Montreal so he’s good in my book.

I'm rooting for Winnipeg and Minnesota.  I have a lot of family in/from Manitoba, and they just fucking bleed for that team.  But they'll shit the bed cause that's what they do in the playoffs.

Lots of friends are Wild fans.  I came of age during that period where the was no team in Minnesota, so I became a default Chicago fan.  I kinda tried to get into the Wild when they started, and they had that great run in 2003, but it just never stuck.  I do generally like to see them do well, and usually root for Minneapolis based pro sports.  The Wild just aren't as good as Vegas, and Minnesota pro sports choke on apple sauce.

Of the actual contenders, I'd be cool with Ovi getting another Cup.  I'd like to see Auston Matthews get one too, but the Leafs flaming out is never not funny.

I found myself rooting like crazy for the Wild last night, which made me really uncomfortable.  Part of me even wants to get a Zeev jersey.

Did your kid moving there give you a soft spot?

Nah, Zeev's my boy.  Kid only lasted about 15 months there.  (Mayo was the problem, not Minnesota.)
