I get the buttermilk and saltines and how it could be a nostalgic thing that hits the spot like a fried baloney sandwich or slice hotdogs on wonderbread and cheese under a broiler.

The pears and mayo are sending me, I don't know how you get there unless the AI in your brain glitches and just calculates the optimal calorie/nutrient mix based on what it scans.

Pears and mayonnaise is gross as shit, no question.  Pretty much anything and mayonnaise, if it's slathered on there and dripping is gross as shit.

I can tolerate a thin layer of mayo on a burger or sandwich or something, but if it's dripping, I'm out.

100%.  Mayo is fine as an ingredient in something larger (deviled egg, potato salad, etc), or as a condiment if it's sufficiently flavored an applied as a light layer.

Excess straight mayo is repugnant.

I celebrate the entire Allium family, raw or cooked. Hard pass on the buttermilk and cornbread. I'll smash some sorghum and butter on some though.

I'm not paying $3 for tea either, give me a water or a beer if I have to shell out that much for what might be cloudy as lake water and soured. I think my mom told me from her days in the food industry that a glass of tea, labor included, was 7 cents. I'm not shelling out more than a dollar for it. They can get their profit somewhere else because I ain't paying for that.

Yeah, Google says 10-13 cents for soda and 25 cents for tea.

Growing up in Oklahoma, pear halves with a dollop of Miracle Whip and grated cheddar cheese were something that my friend's old-maid aunts would bring to the Church Potluck Dinner. We would dare each other to finish one.

Did y'all eat pickled herring as kids?  May parents always has it out on the counter Friday evenings with water crackers.

Oh yeah.  Kipper snacks.  Salted/brined herring in a tin, like sardines.  I could devour a couple of tins of those in one sitting, with saltines or club crackers.  Sometimes cocktail sauce too, if I were feeling fancy.

I didn't eat it, but I had an old timer in the extended family that would eat pickled carp and turtle

A pear half?

Or an old-maid aunt?

Thread went from “Texas food” to “weird shit that only my family makes and eats”

Breakfast was always served with a mixture of peanut butter and maple syrup for the biscuits. Instead of a "full English" breakfast, we had a "full Mexia".

Tell me that's not a box full of happiness right there.

Haha, my wife's out of town, and I've spent the day sampling wax, flower, and gummies, and my dinner was a Safeway frozen pizza (that was actually really fucking good).

Before I get to the awful opinions expressed here, one of my own: King Ranch Chicken sucks and should never be made.

That is truly an awful opinion.

The frozen pizza you had after getting triple-faded on marijuana products all day was good?

Even shitty brisket can be chopped with some spicy sauce and make a very good sandwich.

Scrambled eggs and fried jalapenos + shitty brisket = great breakfast tacos
