Well that's all sounding well and good with our current expectations. The bar back then was much higher so this comparison is trash/he would have been fired for 6 seasons of that record regardless. New revitalized Mack killing it at a different school in a different conference =/= the lazy fat Mack we saw at the end of his tenure here.

whether or not someone wants to coach here?

That's not what we're talking about. If you think USC can get away with offering Urban less $ than Texas you probably live under a rock.

I mean, they're doing fine so I don't see why they're so adamant that it wont happen.

If this Urban thing starts to happen, just get ready. Everyone is college football will be hating. How many words do you think Billy Liucci will write about it? Dan Wolken and SEC fans will link arms and sing kumbaya.

Craig Bohl is the guy who built that program.  Klieman didn't fuck it up to his credit.

Bohl played for Osborne at Nebraska and is now at Wyoming and has done okay there.

Klieman has one hickup this year. He lost to Ark St. in the first game. Looks like his defense let him down, but that he wasted ZERO time correcting the problem. My kind of coach. K-State held TCU to 14, we gave up 33. Tech was held to 21. They got 56 on us.

That's good coaching, especially when compared to Herman.

Re Meyer: He was Herman's HC for two years. Herman left a cream puff job for a less than stellar opportunity at UH.

Seems to me that if they were friends, that, and the fact that Meyer already has all the money he'll ever need, might keep him from taking the UT job - unless Herman has already been fired. (It would look bad if Herman is fired and Meyer announced as new HC a week later.) Keep in mind that a million bucks to Meyer is probably like fifty grand to you or me. Would you screw over a friend for $50k?

On the other hand, if they weren't friends, if there was any animosity, it would be a plus reason for Meyer to take a UT job.

Figured you'd say that.

I'll take that as a compliment. Of course he would. Private school over public school, Leinart and Bush chirping in his ear, and 'Hey, Shelley, where would you rather live? Austin or L.A,?'

Seems some people are looking at NC now and saying "see, they fucked up firing him," ignoring the fact that Mack has even said that he needed to step back and observe as a commentator for a few years to get some perspective and get reenergized with a fresh approach.

Anyone thinking his ride at Texas was going to do anything other than continue to go downhill if continued is delusional.

Are we assuming Clay Helton shits the bed? Tom has already shat.

TIFWIW but Jeff Howe at 247 said something went down at one of the Houston satellite camps and he would be "shocked" if there was any kind of relationship there.

I live in LA now and of course I lived in Austin.  Different strokes for different folks.  Some people hate it out here just like some people hate it in Texas.  I have no idea on Urban but I know he's coached in places much quieter than Austin.

So Alabama and Clemson aren’t the real favorites to win the nation championship and it’s just a ruse???   Yea they put the worst odds for the most likely result so they don’t lose a lot of money, in that thinking you are right I guess....

1. Coaching odds aren't exactly the same.

2. What were our odds for the national championship?

You need to look in the mirror and ask yourself why you don't want us to have Urban Meyer. And then you need to not spend so much time on a Texas message board.

Why would this have anything to do with it?  Is he getting a degree?

Urban Meyer called out Tom Herman today. I’m sure you’ve heard about it.  “C’mon man,” Meyer said. “I don’t know where that came from. It’s like a new generation of excuse. [Herman] said, ‘I can’t rub pixie dust on this thing.’ He got a dose of reality. Maryland just scored 51 points on you.”

You don't think Urban would take a paycut to live in a city that's twice as expensive, yes, I know his great grand kids will never have to worry about working, but still. And it's not like USC has been great since Pete left

They are not friends. Herman and his wife are viewed as whistle blowers in the Zach Smith shit that eventually got Urban out at OSU. I think Meyer might take the job just to spite Herman

Ooooh. Sorry for not being a shitty, also-ran state like Ohio that people only care about every 4 years. We aren't blasé about what makes the world go round down here, amigo.

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in betting odds. Bookmakers set the odds based off making money, not correctly predicting the outcome.

yes, but efficient "market" means the odds should converge to the outcome, unless the bookmakers know something everybody else doesnt, and/or everyone is completely uniform in being utterly wrong

Not sure he just mentioned it briefly. Back then I only followed recruiting on a macro level.

What is this some kind of revelation?  They don't like each other. they haven't liked each other, they weren't friends before the Zach Smith fallout.  Meyer and Herman have sniped at each other since Herman took the Texas job, possibly before but I didn't pay any attention to tom at Cougar High.  I know some thought Urban thought Herman got too much credit for the offense at tOSU, and supposedly grabbing that 5 star receiver was more about taking him out of Tom's back yard and the high rated prospect was a bonus.

These 2 cats don't like each other and that has been obvious for a while now.

You introduced the notion of Urban settling for less to go to USC. You're measuring that variable incorrectly

And Urban called out Tom for his "pixie dust" comment after the first Maryland loss.  This wasn't Urban the announcer, Urban was still the coach.  So yea, safe to say they hate each other.

It was apparently unknown to the poster quoted in my post. He directly said maybe Urban wouldn’t come to Texas because of his friend ship with Herman.

I wasn't meaning that response to you specifically, there had been several posts including his that were acting like they revealed some great truth about Herman and Urbs not being pals.

When was the last time you looked at a "Top Cities to Live in" list or stats of how many people are moving from CA to Austin? This is a point in Texas' favor..

Clem, Ala, OSU all +150-+300 range then a big gap for the rest.  Not exactly sure but the same theory remains.

Herman had some strange wins & losses at uH. But, the Maryland losses clinched that Herman would be a short-timer on The Forty.

I would kill to get out of LA.  I'd kill two if it meant I could get back to Austin.

I have an actual f'n socialist leading my district's city council race.  Ridiculous.

That would be pretty evil of Mack as Tom brought him back into the fold, so yea, probably .

Sally could succeed Herman, go 12-1 and take the team to the FF, and Mack would have her bags on the front porch when she got back from the playoff game.

Klieman would be a solid hire if Urban is unavailable.  I like the idea of targeting someone who's been successful in this league.

“I think there is a wait-and-see attitude,” the source told Bohls. “The thing to watch is whether the team stays on the field after the next game. I think that is a good indicator as to whether he has lost the team or not.”

Whether?  Okay.

You can bet your ass that the team is going to stay on the field after the next game.   That's not even a question at this point.

Let's not do this. I live in LA, too, and I might look at it differently if I made 8 million dollars a year. Both Austin and LA have their appeal.
