I also posted this in the Quinn Ewers thread in Recruiting...

On 104.9, Trey Elling just said that he's hearing in recruiting circles that Herman has been saying some negative things about Ewers, and that stuff got back to the Ewers family and that's how all of this came about.  Also said that Herman made no effort to rectify the comments or keep him committed.  I'm officially on the "he knows his fate and he's burning the place down on his way out."

It was a totally WTF moment.

Was wondering if something like this happened. Makes sense why it happened out of the blue in the blink of an eye.

Does it make sense though? Really, we know Tom is an asshat but sabotaging your biggest recruiting win is tin foil hat type shit. Ewers is making a practical decision to improve his chances of playing for a championship and getting to the NFL.

Urban will wait to respond until Herman hits absolute rock bottom and has no more blue chip recruits in the fold...

Then he’ll say no.

The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll look down and whisper "No.

What, exactly, has Shaw done without Harbaugh's players or Christian McCaffrey?

David Shaw coached winning football 8/9 years scandal-free and won 3 conference championships while contending with the highest admission standards and maintaining a Graduation Success Rate in the 90's.

He had players when he arrived and then recruited more good players? No shit.

His teams aren’t as good as harbaughs

For normal people it makes zero sense to burn bridges like that but it would for the Tom Herman that CTJ and others have alluded too. Arrogant/Dumb enough to think that it would not get back around to him and uninspired enough to not make up for the mistake.

Would Ewers actively recruit against his child hood dream school that he is currently committed to and change direction out of nowhere without some kind of clash with TH and the staff?

And Harbaugh's Michigan teams aren't as good as his Stanford teams, and Hermann's Texas teams aren't as good as his UH teams, and so on. There are no guarantee of winning. What attributes does the University value in the program and in what order? Start there.

So if there are no guarantees why would I want someone who inherited a good situation and made it worse?  At least him, Herman and even Charlie turned things around?

i feel it's important to remind you that you share your stated position with only one other poster on this board: @Randolph Duke.

are you comfortable with that fact?

OU will NOT win out. They’ll lose to Okie state and maybe one more team that they’re not supposed to.

Catching up on some things, including this post. Mike Gundy would give a rimjob to an angry rhino if you told him that another OSU choking loss to OU was hiding inside that rhino's ass.

Elling is wrong, at least regarding the main issues with why Ewers waved the deuce and headed for the exit.

In the words of the Virgin Mary, come again? You left GreenspointTX completely off your list. That dude will be fedexing you, because he can afford it, a strongly worded letter on the omission shortly.

we're heading into november, which is when you typically tell us that certain players are bad-mouthing the program. so...?

We all know there's a coaching change happening in the next 1-2 years. The sooner the better obviously... Ewers is probably bummed he had to make this decision but it's a rational one. And now he should absolutely recruit players he's already got good connections with to maximize his future performance and value. What would you do if you were Ewers? C'mon.

We have started there.  Graduation rates and pretending we’re Stanford are pretty far down the order.

If we don't want to be Stanford that's pretty fucking sad. And if football is the reason why we don't, then the program is doing the University a disservice. A handful of people in Houston with fractional superyacht ownership who put winning as an outcome ahead of institutional values is how we hired the guy we have. Should we do it again?

Shaw didn't make it worse, that's silly. Or if he did make it worse, it took him 7 years.

Harbaugh:

4-8, 5-7, 8-5, 11-1

Shaw:

11-2, 12-2, 11-3, 8-5, 12-2, 10-3, 9-5, 9-4, 4-8

So first three years are with Jim's players?

Shaw has completely crashed that program into the mountain. Shaw was handed a very strong program that he has destroyed. They have had tons of players leave because their staff is so shitty.

Not sure why anyone would want to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire.

You may want Shaw but why would Shaw want to come here? He knows what is expected if you are the HFBC of Texas. It's not like it is at Stanford. You want it to be that way but it won't be and never has been.

My list if Meyer says no looks something like this:

- anger
- depression
- alcoholism
- hardcore drug experimentation
- lose job/home/family as life spirals like a Tom Herman recruiting class
- get it together and go to rehab
- start fresh
- get stable enough to reengage with Texas sports and realize we're still a dumpster fire with whatever g5 coach we hired
- fall off wagon
- start process over

You left out

- collect underpants

- ???????

-profit

Yes, and as you know, there are no examples of coaches losing with good players they inherited, er, wait  ...

Wait, so why do I want Shaw again?  He inherited an A situation and has turned it into a B- situation.  Why not go for someone who's taken a shitty situation and turned it into a winner?
