The last thing Urban wants his legacy to be known for is that unceremonious retirement from Ohio State following that half season suspension.

You know he's itching to get back in the game sitting there watching all this shitty Big 12 football from the studio. He knows that if he wins a National Championship at a 3rd school - it will absolutely cement his legacy as one of the greatest of all time.

I thought about this the other day.  It’d be like being one of the greatest guitar players of all time, who’s band broke up a little too soon, so now he’s an VJ on MTV.  (When they played music).

You’d have to get back out there mentally.

Shawn Watson was paid more than Lincoln Riley.  The one controversy regarding the staff is we wouldn’t let Charlie hire his bag man Clint hurtt

also just saw a tweet that if we hire urban he’d likely steal Randal Joyner from smu

I think that it was Chad Morris that he wanted to grab from Clemson and they wouldn't give him the money to do so.

I got that from a guy who married the daughter of an SMU swinging dick and so he found out the story that way. That's all I know. Not first hand info.

I know a lot of the 9.95ers wanted him to go after Riley.  Idk if Morris would’ve come anyway.

I've always heard Strong was set to hire Chad Morris as OC but Patterson nixed it because how much it was going to cost.

If you think about it. Urban really is the only choice. I mean. Who many times do you have a multiple NC winning coach, still in his prime that isn’t currently coaching?
Plus unlike other options he doesn’t have a buyout.

Basically this is like the planets alignment hippie shit, but real.

I agree with you. However, I think winning 4 championships at 3 different schools would cement him as the greatest of all time, not one of the greatest of all time.

Still not sure that puts him ahead of Saban -- just gives him something Saban will likely never have (titles with three different programs).

Maybe when Meyer ditches us after 4-5 years (like everyone is predicting) with at least a couple of NCs under his belt, Saban can ditch Bama and come win one here, too. You know, just to get even. That would be fine.

The entire thing reads more like a fan post than an insider scoop, which is basically what Ketch is. He buys the scenario that Meyer is coaching here in 2021 but there's no substance behind it

Wouldn't complain if Dabo felt the need to come through once he started to feel one upped.

The whole Morris thing was for show. Morris was not coming to Texas and knew he’d have a head coaching job within a very short period of time.

As much as I think Patterson sucked and was a cheap dipshit, he didn’t prevent Chuckles from hiring Morris. That is flatly not true.

Strong wanted Shawn Watson because Strong knew better. He couldn’t even fathom why he had to put theater on to bring him in. Watson was the guy the whole way.

I was excited about the hiring of Charlie Strong. I thought he could recruit and I knew he could coach. The minute it became clear he was orchestrating bringing Watson in, I immediately changed course and started digging into Strong’s overall history. Then I got worried. Watson was the first sign that Strong wasn’t going to make it and it sucked to know that by February of 2014.

Similarly, Herman choosing to bring a bunch of clowns in, and reaching out to bring Tim Beck in as the OC, immediately confirmed to me that we were fucked. I’ve dealt with a lot of angry friends, family and posters for my view that we were fucked from the jump with Herman. It has sucked to be right. I thought the 2018 season was solid evidence that I jumped the gun and was wrong. Nope. This guy fucking sucks and needs to be shitcanned asap.

I remember when the 9.95ers were saying that pretty much all the coaches made the initial trip into Austin I thought "why would Herman bring them to Austin?  They're about to get axed."

Tom Herman tried to imitate OSU at Texas but failed. He hired a boat load of former Ohio State coaches, set up the program like OSU but couldn't get it done. It's like buying Lamborghini parts but don't have the engine. Coach Mick & Pantoni are the engines that makes OSU run
Expand

Pantoni is the one who evaluates film of high school prospects and oversees the entire football recruiting operation. He is in charge of film evaluation, on-campus visits, compliance, scholarship limitations, and maintaining the recruiting board.

If Urban is the guy I hope he can steal Him and Larry Johnson

I liked his work as a recruiter. He was just hired over his abilities. He sucked as an OC but Tim Beck as a wide receiver coach could work. Anyway, I think one of Beck's strengths is that he went to Cardinal Mooney High School is Youngstown, OH. That had to open a lot of doors.

The way they were talking, it seemed like it was almost a foregone conclusion. Something about the tone in FCB’s voice and questions. To the point where the OSU guy said it would probably come down to whether a couple key assistants would be willing to trade Columbus for Austin.

Expand

I imagine the primary coach he is talking about is OSU D line coach Larry Johnson.

Larry Johnson is in his late 60s. I guess Romeo Crennel is still coaching strong at 73, but those guys have to be near their end as coaches. Maybe you could still get a few years out of him, but that would be it.

Or hell, as long as we're dreaming, maybe Urban coaches here 10 or 15 years and tacks a Saban-esque run of titles at Texas onto his UF and OSU accomplishments.

This whole thing with urban is setting up like a huge disappointment like with nick.

Has there been discussions IRL or just message board fodder?

Expand

That fact that there have been no discussions IRL and the Texas media has universally called for Herman's job but has gone completely radio silent on any possible replacements is the only thin that gives me hope.

Man, it really sucked immediately coming out of school making over 70k working 3 days a week.

It sucks even more making almost 3.5 times that amount every year.....working less hours a week than when I was an ICU nurse, less than 5 years after graduating from Texas

So you quit nursing and became a mule for a cartel?

Urbana going to slow roll this to see if USC shits the bed later this fall.   Sets up for a great bidding war between two blue bloods and the decision will be max hype and max contract.

We're slurring our season, too.  What's a couple of throw-away Thursday calls on top of losing $20mm this year on a worthless coaching staff?

I could be totally wrong, but I don't think USC is as willing to shell out cash for coaches as we are.  I could be wrong.
