Good points! This writer/blogger gets it too:
“Some people need to understand. When you are winning, you can be as fun and cute as you want to. But when you lose, this kind of stuff just makes you look like a clueless idiot. I do not get paid millions of dollars to coach football, but I would like to think that a head coach on the hot seat should focused more on his own team that spewing out total BS like this.”

This was my thought when the insider ScottButter said Urban was a done deal. The only way a SC insider would know that would be for Herman to be in play there. Also he would have taken that job in 2015 had they not lost to the Citadel.

Herm was a candidate for Scar in 2015?

I think there could be a soft landing scenario, if the right school with the right money and length of term came calling. Unlikely but possible given the situation.

That was floated around when Charlie was here too.  We would find him a landing spot.

Wait a minute.  Some people claim Tom would leave to work for significantly less money than he could earn by getting fired and staying home?

Huh? Nonsense...if his ego is as big as some of u think, he would only move unless he makes about the same money...for more years of course.  I don’t see him going from 6 million a year down to 4 million a year.

Can South Carolina pay at least 5 million a year?

He was. The possibility of Texas opening soon may have been the biggest factor though.

I think Herman would do fine at SCAR. His results are much more in line with their program expectations there. 7 or 8 wins depending on the bowl result - maybe a darkhorse year where they upset someone and wind up in the SECCG race for a couple weeks.

Seems like as much of him being on the outs at Texas has to do with politicking as on the field results.

If TEXAS pays him $8-10mill settlement to leave  and next job nets him $3-4mill per year,  it could be a better financial arrangement since his current contract has offset language...

Freeze is now getting over $3mill a year at Liberty in his new contract.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Texas doesn't have to pay him shit if he leaves to take another job or if another school is forced to buy him out. His best financial arrangement would be taking a job where he makes more than he does currently. Anything outside of that and for the duration of his remaining Texas deal he will end up seeing virtually the same pretax income either way.

(This is without looking at the offset clauses and assuming they are at or close to 100% of his hypothetical new salary)

Have you ever seen South Carolina play football? The only coach they’ve had better than Tom is Steve Spurrier. That program is historically shitty, as is the SEC east.

Lou Holtz was there, but he has cheated everywhere he ever coached, SC included. Tom would be well above average for SC.

Can we trade coaches? Freeze to SC. Tom to Liberty. And Urban to UT. Coaches would be happy and fans would be happy and administration would be happy. Make it happen.

It’d work out really well for us. Recruiting would get back on track, and then we’d win a quick national title. But most importantly Herman would become a better coach at Liberty, and then we could hire him back after Urban and Shelley’s next coaches wives beating ring is uncovered. -RD

Im not sure what the exact amount tom is getting paid this year, but let's say 5 million.

I would think if SC wanted to pay him 3, Texas would be on the hook for 2 million. Or he could sit at home or be an analyst at Alabama and get 5.

To get rid of Herman, TEXAS currently owes him a $15mill buyout (with offset).  He won't leave without some of that buyout money for sure.

So say Mensa settles for $10mill buyout with no offset.  Then agrees to a $4mill/yr contract at a school like South Carolina.  After 3yrs Turtle-Tom has $22mill total vs just $15mill.  (Btw, Liberty is reportedly paying Hugh Freeze over $3mill on his new contract.)

Source on TEXAS buyout info:

The word: To fire Tom Herman this season, the Longhorns' deep-pocketed boosters would need to shell out $15.4 million dollars if removed prior to Dec. 1 in addition coaching staff holds.

I thought we’d already said this wasn’t the case. His contract is a prorate - the closer we get to Dec 1, the cheaper the buyout is. The Dec 1 amount that’s quoted in all these articles is just what the prorate is on that day.

Not sure that the $15.4mill buyout has a proration structure until maybe the final few years of contract which goes through the 2023 season??  It would be great if the buyout is lower after Dec 1st for sure!!

Here's some additional detail that I've seen:

Tom Herman is set to earn $6 million in 2020; $6.25 million in 2021; $6.5 million in 2022; and $6.75 million in 2023.

It’s a great fit for Tom.  Lower expectations and he will have a couple of upset wins every year.  And he’ll win their Liberty Bowl game every year. He already acts like a cock so he’s the perfect hire for them.

The fact that his intel spans both CFB and NFL make me think that, along with a bunch of ties to Miami.

Drew Rosenhaus (Gronk's agent) went to the U for undergrad and his sports agency is based out of Miami. Trace Armstrong (Tom Herman's agent) is with Athletes First and his home base is their Gainesville, FL office (Armstrong is a Gator alumnus/former player). He represents Ryan Day - and as this thread has touched on, he represented Urban until they split ways in 2018 after the Zach Smith shit show. Based on some digging, Urban is represented in at least some facets by Sharron Elkabas of MN2S. Sharron founded MN2S and it's a more of a music/talent-focused agency than sports, which makes sense given what Urban does now. Funny enough, the  U.S. HQ of MN2S (and it's sole U.S. office) is in Miami.

Makes sense, really. I’m sure WM has painted a picture of Texas to them over the years in general conversation (from his perspective of course) and they could be interested. Not that WM would be helping them replace him, just saying he may have tinted their perspective during his tenure a bit and they may overlook obvious issues and scapegoat them on our “environment.”

Spoiler
The Insider: Did Tom Herman just double down?
ByCHIP BROWN
This week’s edition of 'The Insider' was going to lead with the growth and development of Bijan Robinson and his vision as a running back — not just when carrying the ball, but also when spotting defensive shifts and identifying blitzers — so he can help protect quarterback Sam Ehlinger in the pocket.
And then a couple things happened:
First, Tom Herman went Mack Brown circa 2013 when Brown was talking to Tim Brando on the radio about Nick Saban. Second, UT’s game against Kansas was postponed due to the Jayhawks’ COVID-19 concerns until Dec. 12, one week before the new date for the Big 12 title game (Dec. 19).
So, we’ll get to Robinson’s growth as a running back in a minute.
But first, since we have a little downtime, we probably need to look at how Herman used a five-minute rant about his job security on Monday to rekindle the very drama he supposedly despises. When Herman was asked on Monday if he was worried about rumors he’d be replaced by Urban Meyer, Herman was ready for it — as if he'd rehearsed his answer a few times.
Full disclosure: The question about his job security came from the same site that trashed athletic director Chris Del Conte, blaming Del Conte for the football team’s mishandling of The Eyes of Texas after the Oklahoma game, when multiple Texas head coaches, including 14-time national champion swim coach Eddie Reese, told me Del Conte had been clear to ALL of UT’s coaches that teams needed to stand together for the post-game playing of the Eyes, even if athletes chose not to sing.
In the course of Herman's answer, he blamed internet sites like “Orangefans.com” for using anonymous sources to stir things up, but added his players know the truth because Herman tells them the truth.
Herman said where the corrosive internet reports do damage is with recruits because competing schools can hit “print” and hand those reports to "impressionable" 16-year-olds to paint Texas in a negative light.
Herman wrapped up his meanderings, including his belief Texas has more negative things written about it than other football programs (Michigan, Nebraska and USC say 'hi'), by painting a picture of rainbows and gumdrops with UT’s administration and Del Conte. More on that in a second.
One of the problems with Herman trying to blame internet reports for his team’s lagging recruiting is that most every internet site leading into the season was throwing confetti at Texas as a favorite to reach the Big 12 title game.
And it was BEFORE the season — when those confetti-filled internet reports were glowing about this being Texas’ year — that Tommy Brockermeyer and James Brockermeyer chose not to commit to UT despite having a brother (Luke) on the team and a father (Blake) who played at Texas.
It was before the season that four-star 2021 quarterback Jalen Milroe dropped the Longhorns and committed to Alabama.
Then, Texas opened Big 12 play with three straight games of sloppy, undisciplined football compounded by the team’s lack of togetherness for the post-game playing of the Eyes of Texas. At that point, every report nationally was talking about UT appearing in disarray, including Joel Klatt of Fox Sports and Brian Jones of CBS Sports suggesting Herman's future was bleak.
By the end of October, stud recruits Billy Bowman, Quinn Ewers and Phaizon Wilson had each backed out of their verbal commitments to the Longhorns.
(Photo: Scott Wachter, USA TODAY Sports)
A source close to Ewers told Horns247 the team’s lack of togetherness for the Eyes after the OU game played a role in his decommitment.
When Herman finally realized he had done more damage to his tenure at Texas by not following Del Conte’s direction to have his team’s post-game handling of the Eyes buttoned up, the rumblings about UT powerbrokers being infatuated with free-agent Urban Meyer as Herman’s possible replacement began to gain steam.
That’s also when a column and subsequent report trashing Del Conte for football’s mishandling of the Eyes by a site trying to protect Herman showed up. That site has since pointed to Del Conte not tweeting about recent football victories as a lack of support from the athletic director toward Herman.
The same athletic director who sternly called a meeting of UT’s coaches after Texas’ football game against TCU to make sure players stood together for the Eyes after seeing several football players scatter off the field as the Eyes began playing.
Del Conte even told Herman he’d address the team about the Eyes BEFORE the Oklahoma game, but Herman told Del Conte he’d handle it. And then the completely uncomfortable (and avoidable) “I Stand With Sam” movement was born out of Herman’s mishandling of the situation.
A source close to Sam Ehlinger told me this week, “That was all on Herman putting Sam in the middle of that mess.”
That source said Herman tried to leave the post-game handling of the Eyes up to UT’s team leaders.
“You don’t put that on the players,” the source said. “You go ‘Remember the Titans’ as the coach and tell your players, ‘Whatever we’re gonna do, we’re gonna do it together.’ Period. End of statement. That was a lack of leadership.”
To the credit of Herman, his coaches and players, Texas crawled out of that white-hot glare with three straight victories over Baylor, at Oklahoma State and against West Virginia. The Longhorns still control their own destiny for a berth in the Big 12 championship game if they can win out against Iowa State, at Kansas State and at Kansas.
(Photo: © Tim Warner, Getty)
So on Monday, when lobbed the question about his job security and dealing with rumors about Urban Meyer, Herman could’ve said something short and sweet, such as, “The only thing we’re focused on right now is going 1-0 this week.”
That would’ve kept the focus on the team’s three-game winning streak, on the improved play of his defense and special teams and the emergence of freshman running back Bijan Robinson as a potential bell cow in the backfield.
Instead, Herman doubled down, rekindling the drama surrounding his job security and making it news again.
With each win lately, Herman has added a new layer of how much his team has had to overcome this season.
Last week, he spoke of how his veteran team with 16 starters back has been like having “11 true freshmen on the field” because of a lack of reps under new coordinators due to a pandemic-shortened off-season.
This week, he added that his team has had to overcome being displaced to UT’s visitor locker room this year because of renovations to Moncrief-Neuhaus and how position meetings have been held in donor’s football suites, because of renovations to DKR.
When Herman wrapped up his job security rant by saying he had all the support in the world from UT’s administration and from Del Conte, it reminded me of when Mack Brown went on the radio with Tim Brando in 2013.
Knowing full well that UT big-money donors were interested in Nick Saban, Brown told Brando, “Nick’s not trying to get my job. Nick’s my friend. I know Nick. So I don’t have to worry about that.”
Brown knew there was substance to the Saban rumors.
(Photo: Ricardo B. Brazziell, USA TODAY Sports)
Just like Herman knows there’s substance to the Meyer rumors.
But like Brown, Herman’s former boss when Herman was a graduate assistant at Texas, Herman used Monday to double down on himself, knowing that if Texas can pull off three more wins and get into the Big 12 title game, the optics of getting rid of Herman become more uncomfortable for those in charge at UT.
The more Herman can paint his team’s plight this season as having to walk to school uphill both ways in a snowstorm with no shoes on, the more he hopes to paint his bosses at UT as appearing heartless if they should decide to replace him at season’s end.
Herman has never shied away from drama. While the coach at Houston, he called into a radio show that featured Nick Wright and John Lopez and got into a protracted argument with the on-air hosts over comments they’d made about quarterback Kyle Allen’s transfer from Texas A&M to Houston.
Instead of using that same time and energy courting powerbrokers at Texas the way Brown did …
… Instead of doing everything his athletic director asked of him the way Brown did with DeLoss Dodds …
… Instead of ignoring a staged question about his job security …
… Herman doubled down on the very drama he said he despised during his five-minute rant on Monday.
“We are very happy and proud of our trajectory and getting that job done here for years and years to come,” Herman said. “And, as has been told to me, so is the leadership at this university.”

THE DEVELOPMENT OF BIJAN ROBINSON
(Photo: © Jay Janner, USA TODAY Sports)
I asked offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich for a progress report on freshman running back Bijan Robinson Wednesday, since we hadn’t talked to Yurcich following Robinson’s 12-carry, 113-yard rushing performance (9.4 yards per carry) against West Virginia.
I asked Yurcich if Robinson was showing enough as a “hot hand” to get more carries?
“It’s not real complicated,” Yurcich said. “Obviously, if a guy is heating up and feels the rhythm, you want to continue to get the ball in his hands. That’s not rocket science.
“But at the same time, I think (running backs) coach (Stan) Drayton needs a lot of credit, because he’s managed it the whole way. And when you have a young guy like that, and you play him too fast too early, when he’s not ready, you can disrupt the development.
“So he’s done this before. This ain’t his first rodeo. So he’s been masterful at his management of that room. At the same time, we’ve got to continue to keep guys fresh and rotate. That’s important.
“How’s his progression? It’s come along steadily. That’s the word I would use. It’s been steady improvement in his vision and seeing his keys. Being able to cut and sync up with the offensive line blocking has been most critical. And that takes time.
“So, you know, it’s not built in a day. And if we had spring ball and extra practices and more scrimmages, you probably would have seen it earlier. But it is what it is, and we’re here today, and there has been steady improvement with him and his production, and coach Drayton has done a great job.
“Bijan is very good out of the backfield. Clutch catch to finish the game in that last ballgame. He’s got really good hands, ball skills. He runs good routes when he’s asked to. He’s disciplined with that.
“With pass protection, I’ll use the word steady and steady improvement. It’s not where it needs to be, and it goes back to discipline.
“There’s vision when you get the ball in your hands - vision on the run. And there’s also vision pre-snap. Are you keying that free safety on a blitz? Are you keying the Mike (middle linebacker)? Where are your eyes to give you indicators of certain types of rotation that indicate certain types of blitzes? What’s the front? What’s the ID? So getting better. Steady is still the word I would use.”

FCB article

TLDR - Herman's botching of the Eyes was a factor for Ewers.  Herman referring to the Urban rumors reminds FCB of a Mack/Brandhole interview where Mack said "Nick ain't coming for my job.  He's my friend."  Oh and OB sucks.

that's it.

Oh and OB sucks.

All all for the SC rumors, but why the hell would they take Herman over Freeze (or other candidates)??  Great for us and all but what's in it for SC?

If they REALLY wanted Herman (they don't), couldn't they just wait until he's let go and then get him cheaper if he really wants to coach anyway giving him one of those backloaded incentive contracts so Texas pays him for first couple years?

For Herman it would make sense, for SC would not unless they really want him... again I could not imagine they do. His state of Texas recruiting pedigree wouldn't be a plus.

Unless Freeze is still a little too radioactive for some administrations.

In the unlikely event anyone is interested in where the rabbit hole has taken me on this very productive day, I have done some digging and am pretty confident I've figured out who ScottButter is.
