Agree with bowl game theory, but Maryland?  He had an entire offseason twice.  Who the fuck knows with this clown.

Something I thought was completely idiotic, but he consistently said this they didn't even look at Maryland stuff until game week. The rest of the preseason was culture and install and etc. I thought maybe it was just coach speak at the time, but now I know he's actually dumb enough to not use an entire off-season to prepare and to actually wait until game week.

I could see it if he was focusing on OU or a big OOS contest, but to totally ignore it without benefiting somewhere else on the schedule is a big mistake. Plus, I think any decent team can beat you if they prepare for 3 weeks and you prepare for 1 week minus family Friday.

grounds for termination right there, combined with the embarrassing Sam by himself on the field after OU thing and the refusal to call Dickson's name his last year.  He was your special teams MVP for the year and you showed your unprofessional attitude at every opportunity.

CASE CLOSED!

What is the story on this?

Hey now, don’t leave out searching high and low on opponents board and websites. That takes a lot of time to analyze!!!

Three weeks between games, job on the line, should be a win over Iowa State without question. Perfect scenario for TH to choke. It's one thing he really is good at.

He's a bowl game winner. With multiple weeks to organize he typically does.

Agreed, but in this case I’m sure he gave Kansas some attention, so all the focus wouldn’t be on ISU.

He doesn't call special teams players by their name and instead calls them, e.g., "the punter" or something. He did the same thing to Dane Roy, the Australian punter from UH, per his 3 or 4 hour interview (which was a total waste of time).

I noticed he referred to Dicker as “Cameron” the other day in the press conference when asked about punting duties.  That was the first press conference I have watched in a while so I don’t know when he quit his petty bullshit stance on that.  What a fuckin slapdick.

The optics of firing Herman right now are too icky for the decision makers to stomach.  But somehow the optics of a football that has been an underachieving boat anchor for 10+ years is just fine.

TEAM

An extra week off equals a much needed extra week of health for the team. Or it will mean rust, you just never know

Three players would have missed the game versus the Jayhawks: The two Carthaginians, Keaontay Ingram and Kelvontay Dixon, as well as the team’s best receiver, Joshua Moore. Not that they would have been needed, that’s just an indication of where they are health-wise.

Running back Roschon Johnson would have been available, especially with Ingram out. This scenario is exactly why they brought in graduate transfer Gabe Watson, who would have played versus Kansas.

Keondre Coburn would have been available, but not likely needed given the opponent and team depth at defensive tackle.

Jordan Whittington has looked good in practice, but if we never get a question about his health again it will be too soon. Given his history, you can’t expect him to finish a game. Any amount of snaps versus Iowa State is big for the offense needing play-makers, however, so maybe it’s good the KU game was postponed.

With no game on Saturday, the team will practice. The goal versus KU was to play as many freshman as possible, including quarterback Hudson Card. Regular team activities will resume on Monday.

Friday will arrive fast. That’s a huge game and opportunity for the team to play well on plenty of rest.

#####

The portal giving and taking will be one of the bigger offseason stories no matter what happens at the top of the totem pole. It’s going to be the Wild West and not just at Texas. Some players who think they’re NFL ready, but clearly aren’t, might decide to play elsewhere for a year (NCAA should allow trades next, imho). Some of that is dependent on what happens at head coach, some of that is more dependent on the player being wanted.

Texas is going to be very active in the transfer market, much more than usual, and they’re already pretty active. The staff will be looking for veterans almost across the board. We could likely see them take a reduced class number in order to pursue transfers.

While you don’t want to make a habit of building through free agency, Tom Herman, should he return, will be feeling the heat to win immediately, and you don’t do that with freshmen. There is a point where taking too many transfers hurts a program, but I’m not saying they intend to cross that plane.

One transfer on the radar: Kansas State safety Jonathan Alexander’s name came up this week as a guy Texas is monitoring in the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-2, 213-pound safety out of Fort Worth Trimble Tech opted out of 2020 and is looking for a home in 2021. The former Kilgore College standout had a strong 2019 for the Wildcats.

He’s hearing from TCU, Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Florida State, and wants to make a decision in mid-December.

We’re told UT is in wait and see mode and Alexander probably isn’t a take today, but worth noting that could change down the line. He really wants to see Austin and we get the sense if the Horns pursue, they have a great shot.

When you see that size, you wonder about linebacker, especially since UT likes its young safeties.

Another example of the oncoming portal onslaught: A name known to recruiting fans in the state of Texas in the 2017 class that has been productive in the Big 12 to the tune of nearly 1,000 yards the last two season could hit the portal following the season. If this were to happen, Texas would have interest. Clearly it’s a position of need and this guy could score with a 20-yard head start.

RECRUITING MATTERS

Class of 2021 wide receiver recruiting continues to take twists and turns. Just days after Texas offered Rudder High’s Keithron Lee at the position, the Longhorns are turning up the heat on J.J. Henry. You read that correct, the Longhorns want J.J. Henry and it’s known to people in Henry’s circle.

The Longhorns’ main competition for Henry is Ole Miss. While people close to Henry would rather him stay close, seeing what undersized receiver Elijah Moore has done at Ole Miss has Henry’s full attention. Moore came out of high school as a 5-foot-9, 170-175-pound receiver that was dumped by Georgia during the process, and became one of the top receivers in college football the last two seasons. Another school to watch if they offer shortly is UCF. Similar to Henry seeing what Moore has done at Ole Miss, former Oklahoma signee turned UCF receiver Jaylon Robinson is starring at UCF with a 1,000-yard season in sight. If Texas were to win out for Henry, it would be the strong relationship built by Andre Coleman, and Henry’s circle pushing to stay very close to home.

Turning to Keithron Lee, the long-armed, sure-handed playmaker is building a relationship quickly with Coleman. The Longhorns have a real opportunity to win out for Lee, but an offer from USC could be one that would be most significant at this point of the schools talking to Lee that haven’t offered. Along with Texas, TCU and Ole Miss are the ones to watch that have offered. Lee isn’t expected to sign until February, so the Longhorns have plenty of time to relationship build and get Lee on campus for a student visit.

#####

The ongoing issues at LSU are giving at least two commits second thoughts that we have heard. One of those LSU verbals has reached back out to Texas recently to see if there is still a scholarship if the skill player was to back out of his pledge to the defending National Champions.

#####

As far as edge rush prospects, Texas has had quite a bit of positive communication with Pelican State defensive end and Arizona State verbal Gharin Stansbury. We have spoken before about the connection a couple of Texas staff members have with Stansbury’s older brother, Gavin. Gavin signed with Texas A&M out of high school and transferred to Houston to finish up his eligibility. Gavin Stansbury lives in Houston, and is said to like the idea of his little brother playing and getting a degree from Texas. Arizona State has a solid relationship with Gharin, as one would expect.

#####

At cornerback, the Texas staff doesn’t appear to be ready to offer or push for another senior prospect at this time. Should the staff look to the portal instead of building from the high school ranks, that would likely push Marvin Covington of Lake Ridge to TCU unless new offer Texas Tech can upset the close-to-home Horned Frogs. Gary Patterson has done extremely well evaluating defensive backs over the years, and Covington would be more of the same.

#####

The IT Top 50 for the class of 2022 featured a DT prospect completely off the recruiting radar. Kristopher-Ryan Ross is a 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive tackle for North Shore. While UTSA being his only offer is ridiculous at this point, the Texas staff is aware of Ross. A key to this recruitment should the Longhorns offer is Ross grew up in Port Arthur and is close with Longhorns verbal Jordan Thomas.

#####

Staying in the class of 2022, the Longhorns staff has begun taking interest in Katy’s Nicholas Anderson. The near 6-foot-4, 190-pounder was offered by Notre Dame Thursday, and Texas receivers coach Andre Coleman has been inquiring about Anderson with a person close to Anderson’s recruitment. The younger brother of former Oklahoma running back Rodney Anderson is a fast riser this season, making his debut in the top 30 of the IT Top 50 for the class of 2022, as well as debuting at No. 161 in the latest release of the ESPN Jr300. Anderson will have more than 20 offers in the near future.

#####

We caught up with 2022 Southlake Carroll five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers on Thursday night. The former Texas commit verbally pledged to Ohio State Thursday evening.

While Ewers was diplomatic in his answers, he admitted there wasn’t anything Texas could’ve done differently, he just felt like tOSU was the best move for him at this time.

We doubt he’ll move off his stance, even if the Texas staff is replaced, but we’ve seen crazier things happen in recruiting.

DOES EWERS TO OSU TELL US ANYTHING ABOUT THE BIGGER PICTURE?

It’s a question without an answer but it did spark quite the discussion, especially since the one-time Texas commit had glowing quotes toward Ohio State’s quarterback coach, Corey Dennis. Dennis, menace that he is, is Urban Meyer’s son-in-law, and he would likely have some understanding of Meyers’ interest in coaching at Texas.

This development had us discussing recent calls IT has had with sources regarding Meyer and wanting to coach again. He does want to coach again, that even comes across when he’s on the television set, but he also likes being close to his family, to include his grandchildren, in Columbus, and it would take a lot to coax him back to the sidelines.

From what we gather from booster sources, they’re still all in on trying to strike a deal with the generation’s second best head coach. We still don’t know how to handicap the odds the school can pull it off, and obviously there still isn’t a vacancy, which we’ve heard impedes formative discussions.

The mentality with people of influence remains Urban or bust and we’ve still heard no recent credible names for Scenario 3. Absent a clear #2 option, we could see the BB’s that were recently picked up by the trilateral commission’s (president, AD, and BOR) metal detector scatter.

#####

For the new subscribers, and speaking of getting the BB’s in the box, thanks for following Bobby Burton over and giving us a shot. By tomorrow morning (maybe later this afternoon), we’ll post a compendium of what we’ve reported since early October so we’re all on the same page.

What you need to know right now: Scenario 1 = pursuing Urban Meyer, Scenario 2 = retaining Tom Herman, and Scenario 3 = a real search.

Iowa State and Kansas State loom large and should help provide some clarity on which scenario is the likelies

First, Thank you @RGBIII for the update.

Second, what the hell difference does it make if “Dennis the menace” has any understanding of Meyer’s interest in UT?
These idiots at IT don’t think that Dennis could simply tell Ewers, “Yo, when he’s in I’ll tell you and we’ll both go to Austin”???

And if/when that happens, we all win.

Well, except Tom & tOSU but whatev’s, screw them.

The way college football appears to be headed due to the pandemic is making me think we've missed our window to cut Herman loose this year. I hope I'm wrong.

Can't trust a single word that comes out of Hugh Freeze's mouth. But if actually true, then this further clears the way for South Carolina to be Herman's landing spot.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/30358781/liberty-football-coach-hugh-freeze-currently-entertain-other-jobs

Quote

Liberty coach Hugh Freeze, who recently agreed to a new deal with the Flames through 2026, said he's "at total peace" with his current situation and is not currently interested in job openings such as South Carolina.

"I won't even entertain things of that nature at this point," Freeze told ESPN College GameDay's Gene Wojciechowski in an interview that aired Saturday. "I'm at total peace with staying here, as long as they'll have me."

South Carolina became the first Power 5 school to make a coaching change this season, dismissing Will Muschamp last Sunday. Freeze, meanwhile, has guided Liberty to an 8-0 record and a No. 21 national ranking in the program's second full season at the FBS level after being a provisional program in 2018.

Now that ISU has put KSU away, it looks like only two dominoes left to fall.  OSU beats OU tonight, and we lose to ISU on Friday.  That's it, correct?  At that point, we should be  locked out of the CC game, and the axe can fall Friday night, and then hiring Urban a week later.

ISU is sharp, and we are rusty.  We come out in first half like a ball of fire and trail at halftime by 21.  We lose by 10.

Anyways, I was thinking a conference title was possible, but this team can't beat ou.  1-5 vs ou is guaranteed dismissal

Be patient with Herman... it is just not fair to him this year.  At least that's what some retarded fans keep saying 🙄

I mean if we beat ou, they're not sprinting away from us.  But we're not beating ou, I have eyes.  We could beat tosu again, but ou is playing at a different speed.  I think he'll likely be fired for insubordination and 1-5 vs ou.  Ballgame.

I think aggy having a good season and being top 5 combined with ou most likely winning the conference again is going to get our BMDs off their ass.  Our fan base is okay with being mediocre but they’re not okay taking a fucking backseat to both ou and aggy.  Good luck raising money to fund all of the projects when the guys with money get fed up.  That and empty stadiums will force their hand.  Even with this bullshit 3 game winning streak, no one is buying the bullshit Herman is spewing.  We look so fucking terrible.  We hired a fucking “offensive mastermind” and our offense is a fucking abortion with a 1st round tackle and a 4th year QB.  How?!?
