Colonoscopy

All clear, on the 10yr plan. All in all wasn't bad at all. Used Clenpiq and didn't think was bad at all. Hardest part was not eating until I started it, but between gummy bear and Werther's (doctor approved as clear) wasn't bad.  Procedure itself I'd do tomorrow just for the propofol...great stuff

no shit, lady told me to think of someplace nice I'd like to be and sweet dreams. I thought to myself I wonder how long this will actually take to......then I wake up to my wife saying I was asking where my dog was.

They didn't even give me a heads up. One minute I'm laying on my side while they are fiddling with their stuff, then suddenly another Nurse is asking me if I called my ride yet.

lol... 4th surgery in 2 months (had melanoma issue... clear as well)... so I was ready... they ask your weight I'm like (weight + 50)... probably need a bigger dose doc. Anesthesiologist laughed so I asked if he could at least stretch it out somehow. He took a look at my prior surgeries and said appears the bare minimum and you are snoring up a storm already.  Either way they were playing good music in the room and I remember the song starting and don't think I ever got to the song's refrain.

Trying to get one scheduled ASAP.

I've been really, really terrible about getting this done.  I'm 56 and still haven't gone in for one.  Now, it appears something is going on that could be an issue.  I'm bleeding quite a bit, feel bloated a lot, fairly regular diarrhea.

But, damn, EOY and everyone is trying to get in.  So far the soonest I can get into see a specialist is the beginning of December....kinda nervous.

Pro tip: Schedule as early in the morning as possible so you aren't starving all morning.

That post-colonoscopy meal is pretty glorious though.

I work nights, sleep days. I schedule for early as possible, but that's like getting one at 9PM for daylight people. Long starvation, big payoff with the post-colo meal.

Having my first ever colonoscopy at the age of 56 this Tuesday (18th) at 7:20am.  This thread has been a source of laughter and inspiration to get it done despite of having good intentions of sending in a Colonguard sample for the last 3 years.  I do not expect anything negative just wanting to get it done.

I begin my fast Monday (17th) morning.  I am to take 4 Dulcolax tablets at 2:00pm followed by the first dose of Sutab at 8:00pm and the second dose at 11:00pm.  Going to be an interesting day and evening on Monday!

Not long ago I had to have a colonoscopy and endoscopy on the same day.  I just told them to NOT use the same scope 🙃 removed a polyp in my duodenum.   I  have IBS but don't confuse it with Irritatable bitch syndrome

I received an “all clear”! I do not have to go back for 10 years.

The anesthesia sets in quick. I was in the middle of a conversation with the nurse when I felt it coming on. I told her that I was going to shut up before I said something stupid. That is the last that I remember before waking up in recovery perfectly normal.

I didn’t think that was too bad. Unpleasant peeing out of my butt, but I have been to Plucker’s before.

Procedure was totally fine. They told me to move onto my left side and then I woke up half an hour later with a Dr Pepper in my hand.

All clear. So now I’ve got to try some pill camera Innerspace thing to see if maybe it’s my intestines that are bleeding.

Mine is Friday at 8:00 am. Will start an all liquid diet tomorrow and do my prep Thursday afternoon. It's my 2nd one, so I know what to expect. Looking forward to a Propofol nap Friday morning.

Mine is also tomorrow at 8AM.  This Clenpiq stuff is not super pleasant, but way better than the time I had to drink a gallon of that old putrid stuff

I'm in the middle of drinking the gallon. So far not too bad. Doing nothing but liquids for two days is really helping. Surly FTW.

Nice propofol nap this morning already came home and ate. All clear, 10 year plan. Those of you who suggested liquids only for 2 days before are geniuses. Made the prep so much easier.

This.  If you do the diet prep correctly for the 3-4 days leading up, the prep the night before isn't as bad as advertised.  Lots of lean chicken, rice, fish, etc.  No greens, nuts, etc.

Why are you guys not doing the pills and still doing the liquid?

I thought the Clenpiq wasn't bad at all. I've had many more IPAs that taste far worse. No issues with it, would use again.

I just did what the doctor said to do. It was a referral from my PCP for a 10 year check so I had no relationship with the gastro doctor. They sent me prep instructions. I guess I could have called and asked for other options, but since it's only one every 10 years I didn't bother.

Had mine on Monday. My second one in two weeks.  First one was inconclusive due to "poor prep". I can't believe there was anything in me at all.  The second one, I started on Wed. with Miralax, ate low fiber, low residue foods. Did the liquid diet 2 days in advance.  Clean as a whistle! Upside-Got Propofol twice. Downside-Had to drink golyte twice.

Bump.  First ever (54, past due) is next Thursday.  Cover me boys, I'm going in!

I kept putting mine off forever. I did it this past October at the age of 56. I am clear and do not have to do it again for 10 years. This site encouraged me a lot to get it done. You got this.

Contact the doctor or pharmacist and ask for these specifically.  Sometimes they don't mention them because some plans don't cover it.  I think with mine the liquid was free but I had to pay $75 or something for the pills.  Well worth it.  Thank me later.

Yes, thanks to Surly brethren, I finally got it done (age 54). With polyps removed, Oncology visits and a follow-up Sigmoidoscopy, I was only able to get the 5 year warranty. 😁

Like everyone else says, just get it done. You got it!

My doctor gave me the choice of pooping in the box or the full colonoscopy. I chose the box for the first go around due to low history in my family and other factors. That'll buy me a couple of years. Haven't heard back on the box, yet.

I had that option too for the last couple of years.  I would get a box and it would get lost in the shuffle and I would never remember to use it.  I ended up giving a box away this past Christmas as a white elephant gift.

Negative results. Good to go for three years. I'll do the "gold standard" next time so I don't have to worry about it for ten years.

Ok.  So I'm about to sign up for my first one soon.  I'm not worried about prep, fasting, pooping, etc...  What I'm absolutely terrified of is the post-procedure running of the mouth.  I'm honestly scared I'm going to say something I shouldn't to whomever is listening.  My dumb ass thinks it's fun to push the buttons when completely sober.  I have no idea what I'll say if, and when, I'm under the influence of veritable truth serum.  I'd do the dang "mail in the poop box" if my insurance covered it just to avoid ending my marriage.
