I'm hoping that was just a "designated survivor" type of situation. Leave 1 QB at home with a plane waiting on standby just in case Sam and/or Casey tested positive after traveling on the team plane?

Probably, but I bet they would have just attempted a very basic zone read offense with JQJ.

That's not the situation.

Got any proof? You don't expect us to take the word of someguy do you? For somereason I don't think that's very original.

He's shown himself to be knowledgeable, but yeah, a little more info would be appreciated, though I realize the sensitivity of these situations.

(Chip Brown) Morning Brew: Injury update on Sam Ehlinger, Roschon Johnson

Quote

Good Morning Horns247!!

— Sam Ehlinger has been limited all week in practice with a right quadriceps contusion near the knee and also took some damage to his off (left) hand against Texas Tech that has made taking snaps difficult, but Ehlinger will play Saturday against TCU, sources told Horns247.

“It’s pretty nasty,” one team source said of Ehlinger's knee. "And his left hand looks like it was slammed in a car door." Initially, there was speculation Ehlinger had a knee sprain (a slight tear of some meniscus). But sources said it was a deep right quadriceps bruise near the knee that swelled up and turned purple. “It’s gonna be a pain tolerance issue for Sam on Saturday,” the source said.

This week, coaches want Ehlinger to rely more on the checkdown pass and not try to go deep as much with his reads for a couple reasons, sources said. Yes, Ehlinger is banged up, but the biggest reason for Ehlinger to take the checkdown pass to the backs is because it's been open. Keaontay Ingram had three catches for 20 yards against Tech. Another reason is Ehlinger can't get caught holding the ball too long waiting for a deeper route to come open, because that's when mistakes/turnovers happen and when Ehlinger takes unnecessary hits.

Sources said running back Roschon Johnson has also been limited in practice this week with a rib injury but is also planning to play. Johnson suffered his injury in UT's 63-56 overtime victory over Texas Tech. Johnson finished the game with 16 carries for 44 yards (2.8 yards per carry).

— Running back Keaontay Ingram has been the most productive back for Texas through two games, averaging 6.3 yards per carry, and has often made something out nothing when there's been breakdowns on the offensive line. Ingram averaged 7.4 yards per carry against Texas Tech on 12 carries for 89 yards, including a long run of 26 yards that helped set up a Cameron Dicker field goal in the fourth quarter.

Ingram was slowed some in fall camp by a nagging hamstring injury, and Roschon Johnson started the season at running back for Texas. But Ingram has been solid since the season started. "Keaontay has been running hard, running tough, grinding and churning for extra yardage," offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich said. Tom Herman said Ingram did a nice job of being patient against Tech, because UT's offensive line was having problems blocking Tech sophomore defensive tackle Jaylon Hutchings (No. 95).

"We had to get No. 95 (Hutchings) moving in one direction and then try to run behind him," Herman said. "And Keaontay did a nice job of being patient and running behind him (Hutchings)."

Well that’s some really shitty news about Sam.

Lulz. FCB. This is flat out false. Ingram did a bad job of maximizing runs in the first half against Tech.

He didn’t start improving his YPC until the OL opened some big holes against Tech late in the game.

Humidor...

Chris Brown is banged up and didn’t participate in contact this week, though he did practice. We think he’ll start but we expect to see a lot of BJ Foster as well. Brown is one of the toughest guys on the team and won’t want to sit.

We have confirmed Anwar Richardson’s report that Tyler Johnson is out with a mystery illness. We wish him the best. That shouldn’t affect this season too much. To our knowledge there is nobody in quarantine. Heading into the third game the team is mostly healthy. There are the typical bumps and bruises but nothing too severe or worth reporting.

Sam and RoJo also banged up as mentioned in earlier post from SATY...

I like this theory.  This should’ve been the TV show.

What the fuck is our training staff even doing. How is it acceptable to have a guy like this on the roster that is always dinged up with random shit that never points to anything chronic? We can't, idk, maybe change his weight routine or something or find a world class PT to work with?

That's not even getting into the myriad other injuries that we've had across the board since Herman started coaching. Maybe I'm overreacting and this is the reality for every other team but it sure as shit doesn't seem like it, or like it was the case with past Texas teams.

Source: Whittington will be out for 'some time' with injury

by FUCK CHIP BROWN

Quote

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas redshirt freshman receiver Jordan Whittington, who led the Longhorns with 10 receptions in a four-overtime loss to Oklahoma, will be out for "some time" with an abdominal, soft-tissue injury, a source close to the situation told Horns247.

Whittington finally seemed to get his Texas career going after catching 10 passes for 65 yards, including a long reception of 20 yards, in UT's 53-45, four-OT loss to Oklahoma on Oct. 10. But Whittington's abdominal, soft-tissue injury surfaced after the game, the source said.

With the exception of the 2019 season opener against Louisiana Tech, Whittington's freshman season in 2019 was wiped out after Whittington needed surgery last September and a follow-up surgery in December to repair an aggravation of a sports hernia injury he suffered in high school at Cuero.

A five-star recruit in 2019, Whittington suffered a knee injury in UT's season-opening, 59-3 victory over UTEP that required arthroscopic surgery and forced him to miss the Longhorns' 63-56 victory at Texas Tech and a 33-31 loss at home to TCU.

Whittington returned against OU and started as the Longhorns' slot receiver and was UT's top-targeted pass-catcher in the game, posting 10 receptions on 12 targets. Whittington's performance helped Texas overcome a hamstring injury suffered in pre-game warm-ups for the OU game by starting slot receiver Jake Smith.

In this year's opener against UTEP, Whittington suffered a slight meniscus tear in his knee on the offense’s final possession of the second quarter, limping off of the field following a play where he went to the ground in the end zone after quarterback Sam Ehlinger left a potential touchdown pass short of Whittington’s grasp. Following his arthroscopic surgery, Whittington was expected to be out three to four weeks, and returned on the early end of that timetable, allowing him to take the field against Oklahoma.

Whittington caught two passes for 45 yards (including a 43-yard, catch-and-run on the series where he was injured) in the win over UTEP. The former 247Sports Composite five-star prospect (the No. 34 overall prospect in the 2019 cycle) also had a 15-yard run to the UTEP 1 - just shy of what would’ve been his first career touchdown.

Whittington suffered a hamstring injury during summer workouts that left him limited to open fall camp.

Whittington initially dealt with a sports hernia prior to his senior season at Cuero, when he helped lead the Gobblers to the Class 4A Division II state championship in a performance in which he scored six total touchdowns, broke a UIL all-conference rushing record set by former Texas running back Johnathan Gray as well as the Class 4A title game rushing record of 329 yards set by Eric Dickerson with 334 yards rushing.

Whittington played running back as a freshman, catching two passes for 17 yards in last year's season-opening victory against Louisiana Tech, before missing the remainder of the 2019 season. Whittington moved to slot receiver this season, where Texas has had a revolving door because of injuries.

Jake Smith missed the UTEP game with a hamstring injury and the Texas Tech game with an illness. Graduate transfer Brenden Schooler started in the slot against Texas Tech with Smith and Whittington out. Smith started in the slot against TCU before Whittington got the start in the slot against OU.

Smith would start in the slot for Texas against Baylor as long as his hamstring injury suffered prior to the OU game has recovered. Texas was off last week.

The amount of soft tissue injuries is alarming amongst the team as well. We thought Benny Wylie was bad but Yancy may be the fucking worst. Not to mention, when's the last time we didn't have someone go down in a game. Guarantee you'll see 2-3 at least go down against Baylor. Ridiculous

I mean it's not like these guys were always hurt in high school and struggling to stay on the field. I get that D1 is more demanding but compared to big time high school football in Texas it's not THAT different.

Pretty cool of the NCAA to give kirko grindzzz a few more years of eligibility by changing his name to Jordan Whittington

Don't worry, Tom will be able to create mismatches while running 31 personnel. We'll just have to hold them to under 17 points, that's all.
