HORNS FB INJURIES (2020)

I guess we should start asking who the backup K is?  Dicker and our susceptibility to blocked punts, special team’s gaffes, who is Dicker’s backup?  Because we better have  a plan BCD given the IQ of Herman’s outfits. Dicker goes down and we lose the K and P.

Punting duties notwithstanding...dude’s been a wizard fielding and placing wild ass Place Kicking snaps the past few weeks.

Better get a walk-on QB or someone else with quick hands primed up.

This.

Who is the backup holder?  Now THAT is a question I never thought I'd ask on a football message board.

Hope it's his left knee...

Herman confirmed the school’s Monday news release regarding punter Ryan Bujcevski tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in last week’s 17-13 win over West Virginia.  “Non-contact too,” Herman said. “I mean, literally just running down there to be a safety on the punt coverage team and planted wrong on the turf. Knee buckled on him. Pretty unfortunate accident.”  With Bujcevski out, kicker Cameron Dicker will handle punting duties. Bujcevski — currently second in the Big 12 in punting average (43.3 yards per punt) and tied for the conference lead in punts killed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line (15) and punts of 50 or more yards (nine) with none of his 39 punts going into the end zone for touchbacks — is dealing with a significant injury for the second season in a row after he missed the final four games of the 2019 regular season due to a collarbone injury he suffered in a loss to TCU in the seventh game of an 8-5 campaign where he returned for the team’s 38-10 victory over Utah in the Alamo Bowl on New Year’s Eve.

The other bit of bad news Herman offered had to do with defensive lineman Reese Leitao, who's dealing with a fractured hand. The initial diagnosis was that Leitao was dealing with only a significant contusion, but an X-ray revealed that the redshirt junior fractured his fourth metacarpal, which required a Tuesday morning surgery to repair.  The good news, however, is Herman indicating Leitao could be good to go for Texas (5-2, 4-2 Big 12) against Kansas (0-7, 0-6).  “He should be ready — with a club on — to practice and go next week,” Herman said.

Although Keondre Coburn left the first quarter of the West Virginia game and was eventually ruled out for the remainder of the contest due to an ankle injury, Herman said the redshirt sophomore nose tackle is dealing with a “pretty mild high ankle sprain, as those do go.” A 19-game starter in 23 career appearances for the Longhorns, Coburn (17 tackles, two tackles for loss and one pass breakup in 2020) will be in a walking boot for a few more days, Herman said, with the expectation that he’ll be ready to “practice the Sunday of the Kansas week, at the very latest Tuesday of the Kansas week.”

Wide receiver Joshua Moore is in a sling after suffering an AC shoulder sprain in the West Virginia game. The team’s leader in receptions (22), yards receiving (343) and receiving touchdowns (seven), Herman said Texas is hoping to get Moore back on the practice field Friday or Sunday.

If Moore is available for the meeting with the Jayhawks, quarterback Sam Ehlinger could have a full complement of weapons in Lawrence if Jordan Whittington is able to play. Herman said Whittington, who hasn’t played since a 10-catch, 65-yard performance in a loss to Oklahoma on Oct. 10 due to a hip flexor issue that flared up in the Red River Showdown, could be back at practice Sunday with the current expectation that he'll be back in the mix for the Tuesday practice prior to the Kansas game at the latest.

Running back Keaontay Ingram missed the West Virginia game with an ankle injury he suffered on a 1-yard touchdown run early in a 41-34 overtime road win over Oklahoma State on Oct. 31. Ingram (250 yards rushing, 4.7 yards per rushing attempt) has fallen behind Bijan Robinson (294 yards, 5.8 yards per carry) as the team’s rushing leader among the running backs with Ehlinger (323 yards, 3.6 yards per carry and seven touchdowns) leading all Longhorns on the ground in terms of rushing attempts (90), yards and touchdowns.

  • Keondre Coburn    High Ankle Sprain (mild)
  • Jordan Whittington     Hip flexor issue

Keontay’s injury did not occur on the 1 yard TD, as noted in the injury update above. The tv feed did a good job showing the replay of the play prior to the td, he got rolled up on pretty good and he was noticeably limping/hurt. As we are prone to do, we hurried up and ran another play (to the same back, ala TCU game), handing the ball off to an injured player, thankfully he had enough adrenaline to punch it in. He then limped off the field. Not sure how they missed that in the injury update.

Yeah Sam has been hurt enough to fill a MASH tent by himself.... Need a freakin' diagram to keep up with all of his injuries

diagnose-map.jpg?x23445

October 2nd...

— Sam Ehlinger has been limited all week in practice with a right quadriceps contusion near the knee and also took some damage to his off (left) hand against Texas Tech that has made taking snaps difficult, but Ehlinger will play Saturday against TCU, sources told Horns247.

“It’s pretty nasty,” one team source said of Ehlinger's knee. "And his left hand looks like it was slammed in a car door." Initially, there was speculation Ehlinger had a knee sprain (a slight tear of some meniscus). But sources said it was a deep right quadriceps bruise near the knee that swelled up and turned purple. “It’s gonna be a pain tolerance issue for Sam on Saturday,” the source said

Right after Okie Lite 10/31...

— Quarterback Sam Ehlinger was very limited in practice last week with a painful left calf contusion, which has impacted Ehlinger's ability to run and step into throws, a source close to the situation told Horns247.com.

Ehlinger played through a quadriceps contusion suffered against Texas Tech that limited him in practice for TCU and OU, sources said. Texas then had an off-week for Ehlinger to heal up, and then he took a helmet to his left calf against Baylor that "severely limited him" in practice last week, the source said. "Sam's playing through a lot of pain," the source said. "It's definitely affected his ability to run and step into throws. But the guy doesn't complain. He's a warrior."

Also somewhere along the way, I'm sure Sam's torso/ribs have been banged up too

Thanks for this update from IT  @RGBIII

TEAM

Receiver Jordan Whittington returned to practice on Sunday. Whether or not he plays versus Kansas will depend on how well he does over the next handful of practices. They don’t need him versus the Jayhawks, but they do need him the following week and they’d prefer to knock the rust off before facing Iowa State. However, playing him comes with its own risks.

We think defensive tackle Keondre Coburn and running back Keaontay Ingram will be held out versus Kansas because it’s Kansas. Despite the high ankle sprain, Coburn probably could go if needed but with d-line depth being what it is, he’ll likely get an extra week of rest.

We’ll hit team info harder on Thursday. The bye week blues makes for slow bye week news.

Come the fuck on. If he really can't play back to back games with the 1st being Kansas then just shelf him and have him do yoga 'til 2021.

gotta hand it to whitt,  think about it, a full ride to UT, all the tang you want, and all you have to do is physically be present at practice for 2 years, not practice, play about 16 min total, injuring yourself every play even with no one around you.

i mean 100% profit right there dude has it all figured out, he and Kirk have invented a business model of zero risk all reward

YUCK.... O-line may really suck against K-State without Cosmi & Kerstetter

  • Derek Kerstetter ankle injury in boot... questionable
  • Jalen Green is doubtful, at this point, with a high ankle sprain
  •  Keaontay Ingram ankle injury.  considered questionable for K-State
