Are We The Most Hair-Trigger Fanbase In CFB?

Florida has almost mimicked our coaching hires and futility over the last decade.  Sure the shark humper got them into the SEC Championship a couple of years in a row, but that was like crowning the world's tallest midget.  They used an offhand comment about death threats by McElwain to off him and move on, and he had a 22-12 record.  Muschamp had a 28-21 record and he was shown the door.  We got crucified for firing a guy with a losing record.

UF has plenty of apathetic fans.  I went to the opener this year and there were tons of empty seats.  Sure, the swamp is electric as any place in the country when things are going well, but it wasn't so electric during the loss to UK this past weekend.  Gators want to see the scoreboard light up to 50 about 6 times a year.  That was one of the biggest problems that Muschamp had there.

Texas isn't the only team with fans that are used to winning and a low tolerance for losing.

Kirby Smart is Georgia’s Bob Stoops and the Dawgs are gonna make the gators fight tooth and claw to win in Jacksonville year in and out.

Pretty bizarre the parallels between Florida and Texas.

Georgia has the best shot of being CFB’s next dynasty

The parallels between UF and Texas are really crazy if you dive into them.  Both great schools and considered the flagship in a deep recruiting hotbed.  We were both at the top of the mountain in the 2000s to fall off of the map around 2010.  They stole Muschamp away from us and we followed by hiring the guy that a lot of their fan base thought should have been given a shot at UF.  Neither worked out.

Now we both have a former Meyer OC running a similar system.  I just wish the guy at Texas had 9 years of P5 coaching experience like Mullen.

And I will always think that if Mack had stepped aside and handed the reins to Muschamp, that we would be in a much better situation than we are now.  Muschamp would have been able to lean on Applewhite to run the offense, and he had the blueprint to shut down B12 offenses.  He was forced to hire Weiss (completely unbelievable and easily worse than Watson or Beck) and never got a grip on scoring and the defense suffered as a result.

At least with Charlie, we settled on him because we struck out on the initial candidates.  I obviously wasn't in the room, but it seemed our value proposition of "because we're Texas" didn't carry the weight we thought it did.  It's a top destination, but so are a dozen other places.  We have to get this next one right.  It may be time for an Aggy-sized check to Dabo, or something equivalent.

Mack showed his ass on the way out and stuck a dagger in the move we were making, the deal was staggering but he forced everyone's hand by slow playing his exit until after the banquet.  We didn't strike out on Briles or Mora, we hired strong instead.

I was disappointed in strongs hire but it was a dice roll on a good coordinator who had a few good years as a HC.  Doing the same thing again, with a carbon copy candidate was just dumb. And here we are.
