So your only option is shitty FUBO?  Fantastic.
I get MLB.tv free through T Mobile and use a VPN router to get around the blackout. Though be warned, they cracked down on the VPNs the last month of last season and it didn't work. Express VPN actually has a page on their website now talking about MLB, so who knows.

If your PC screen resolution is at 1080p and you watch a 4k video on Youtube, are you really seeing 4k or is it maxed at the screen resolution you've set?

Asking because my HTPC is set to 1080p on a 4k TV.  Do I need to invest in a more robust video card?

Or, build a Plex server and let the TV deal with the resolution?

Well fuck me. Thankfully, it really won't matter.

Anyone have a clue how we will fare next year in the SEC? I know HULU has the SEC network. Gotta have football, men & women basketball, and volleyball.

So now all of a sudden YTTV has started thinking my current playback area is in Albuquerque instead of Phoenix and it’s fucking with my local channel access. ie, sports.

When I go into settings to update my current playback area, it updates as NM, when I’m clearly sitting at my house in AZ. Home area still showing Phoenix.

Recently switched to Verizon 5G home WiFi system and has been working great. And www.where-am-i.net gets it right.

Of course when you try to send a feedback message to Google I just get the spinning wheel of color and a can’t send feedback message over and over.

Any ideas?

This is what people say works to correct (last part of post) from Reddit:

It looks like I found the fix for whacky IP related mis-geolocations.

I opened my YT TV app on my fone, went to locations and to set home location. I then went into YT TV settings on my TV, then to location. I clicked into the current playback location (wrong location). With the fone app open and TV app open a message popped up saying "waiting for device to connect". Finally the YT TV app used my fone's GPS and sync'd the TV app to the actual fone location.

I tried different variations of this process with no luck. Having my fone YT TV app open and in location settings, while doing the same on my TV YT TV app the connecting device message came up. I just went thru this process with the four TVs in my home and they all sync'd up to the correct location.

As a recent cord cutter I am wondering how to watch the spring game. I'm on HULU Live and know all too well it doesn't have LHN. I have wished I could see Horns baseball and softball but I have lived.

I have looked at the free trials for Fubo, UTTV, and Directv but see no LHN. Have I missed it?

Look at sling’s orange package. I think they do a prepaid option for 3-4 mo at a time. Saves a bit, and gets you to the end of the network.

REQUESTING COMMENTS ON CURRENT 2024 OVER THE AIR HD ANTENNAS

oaky with the coming demise of lhn i am ready to tell the deathstar to fuckoff

first function to solve for is to get an OTA anteanna that works 47 miles away from the towers in Cedar Hill

then i can start piecing together the rest of the overall solution

a bunch of new antennas have been released in the past couple of years and the prices are moving to commodity

surlers what say thee

which ones work, which ones suck

please describe your overall situation: distance from towers, mounting location to achieve your results, etc.

I am 30 miles from the antenna array that is in the SW part of Metro Houston.

In my attic above my second floor - approximately 25 feet up - I unhooked the main cable input that fed into a powered booster that distributes to all of the cable outlets in the house. Then just connected a 40 year old set of rabbit ears to the booster. Rabbit ears pick up the same signal that an “HDTV” antenna does.

I get great OTA reception through the cable outlets hooked up to all TVs.

Depending on how high you can get it, I would think that one of the directional Yagi antennas would work well if all of the towers you are trying to hit are in the same general vicinity.

I don’t have a specific rec for a Yagi antenna, but Amazon and others have plenty for $100 or less that should work.

Of course, height of the antenna and any obstructions between you and the towers may affect your results.

Good luck.

I'm 15-20 miles from Cedar Hill- in M-Streets/ Lakewood.  I have this antenna and booster in my garage, mounted on a shelf just below the ceiling, on a small Ram Mount ball mount, which makes it easier to position.  Was a bit of a pita to dial-in- as it isn't set up very high, and has a brick wall/ wooden garage door to go through to go through.  But, works and is easier than trying to tap into Coax in the attic.

I am running the signal through an HDHomeRun Flex 4K ATSC 3 Tuner (fortunately, I have a centralized Coax and ethernet connected box in the garage), which is then connected to a PC Plex/ Video server I have set up, and allows me to DVR all the OTA channels via Plex or the Channels DVR app (which is really good, but doesn't run on Roku- only Android TV or Firestick).

I get ~115 channels- all the networks, bunch of old tv show stations, randos, foreign, shopping, etc.  There are currently only two 4K channels- Fox and Univision, but, Fox is a bit flaky (assuming content is upscaled, but, some of the college football games looked really good last fall).

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FVTPX2

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B1237RTP

The HDHomeRun isn't necessary if you don't want to DVR, and, if you want to split/ go straight to your TV antenna ins (assuming you have built-in OTA tuners on the TVs).  Was a bit of trial and error getting things hooked up--- but, was well worth the setup.

So, it's almost football season again, not to mention the Olympics as an early appetizer, so it's time to subscribe to a live TV streaming service again.  The past few years I have done YouTube TV from August to January, and antenna plus other streaming subscriptions in between.  Almost exclusively used for sports.  DVR is nice but not a deal breaker.  Should I look at any other options before renewing with YTTV yet again?

Hulu’s live tv,  if you already have disney, will save you some money with the bundle. Especially if you already bundle dis/hulu/espn+. I’ve been considering this move myself. I’d give up AMC to get History, which would be alright with me.

If just sports as the focus, there’s sling’s orange package, that’s about $20 cheaper than yttv/hulu. Less channels overall, but not less sports channels.

I've been doing Sling the last few football seasons. It's $55/mo for everything, which gets you all the ESPNs and Fox Sports. Or if you're really cheap, you can pay $40 for one package or another and switch back and forth week to week depending on what channel has better games.

Verizon still has their Peacock Premium + Netflix Premium deal going on for anyone with Verizon and Netflix who wants to save money for a year...

I went from no Peacock and Netflix Std subscription to: Peacock Premium and Netflix Premium for a year for $86 (saving over $115 for the year in the process)

https://slickdeals.net/f/17638494-verizon-mobile-internet-fios-tv-1-yr-peacock-premium-1-yr-netflix-premium-80-via-play?src=SiteSearchV2Algo

Super easy signup for existing Netflix account holders, was completely seemless, didn't have to cancel anything, Netflix just changed the billing to via Verizon.

Now that LHN is RIP, I am looking to make the move. I'm hoping someone will have the patience to show me the path.

My requirements:

Must have local (Austin) network affiliates

Must have most common cable channels (TNT, TBS, AMC, USA, TWC, etc.)

Must have ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FS1. CBSN would also be nice. SECN is now also a must.

Must have DVR capability, including the ability to set series to automatically record. I rarely watch anything live other than sports and the ability to FF through commercials is important.

I'm currently on Optimum and have their wi-fi, bill is around $300/mo which feels like a lot.

What's an old to do here?

This. Don't even think about it, get it for a month. You can sign up in less than a minute. if you don't like it you can just cancel....online... In seconds.....without taking to anyone.

I've heard that you can't FF through commercials on stuff you DVR. Is that accurate?

Can you help me with this?

we are streamers and have been for years. YTTV max4k. We have HBO through YTTV.

we have Amazon Prime TV with subscriptions for Paramount plus showtime and starz.

We also have the Apple one plan or whatever. We have a peacock subscription through Apple.

we have the Disney plus subscription for Disney and ESPN primarily, but we also have Hulu as the third leg. I also have ESPN+

I have a MLB.TV sub as a stand alone.

we have Netflix.

we have so much shit that we don’t know what we have. Whenever a kid wants to watch something I have to figure out which app to open and which log in is necessary. It’s exhausting.

is there a better way to do all of this?  I like the idea of have one place to log in and look for everything.

my wife and kids like the idea of simply opening a dedicated app (peacock for example) to watch whatever is there.

has anyone else lived through this and come up with a better mousetrap?

Not completely accurate... most things you set to add to libarary (there is no "recording" per se) you can skip commericals if you set before it airs.  If not you might have commericals as will treat like VOD... note you can still watch the show even if you didn't add to library so that's a benefit.  Most times on most channels you can skip commercials if a new program.  Older programs, some channels seem to have their own rules though. For me most times it's not a problem.

Usually older shows you haven't added to libary sometimes have commericals you can't skip and they list as VOD typically in menus.

So, can I set a first-run series - think prime time network series, new season - to add all episodes (ideally all new episodes) to my library ahead of time, kind of like setting a series to record? And then be able to FF through commercials when I watch?

Yes, I've never had issues when doing so. It took me a couple months to get comfortable with how everything works, but I couldn't imagine going back to Dish or DTV or old.

For a couple of months, I've been using the Tablo device as an improved OTA device plus DVR. Overall I've been underwhelmed with the google TV app but I do like the DVR. It's nice to be able to schedule OTA recordings again, along with DVR pause/skip/etc. I also like the cost is only the upfront device purchase price and there is zero monthly fees.

It's also cool that I can view content to any device within my home network like with iPad or other TVs not connected to the antenna. By design, it doesn't work from outside the network.

the major downside is that the app takes too long to load on the TV coupled with error messages because it's aware it's taking too long. It can take several minutes to load up . Perhaps my TV (processor, memory?) cannot handle it but I still look to Tablo that they need to right size their software to work on average TVs. I don't have similar problems with other apps like netflix or prime.

Venu is going to be $43/month.

Quote

The platform will include the entirety of the portfolio of live sports rights owned by its parent companies, including the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, college football and basketball, among others. Venu subscribers will also have access to 14 traditional TV sports networks of its parent companies, including ESPN, ABC, Fox, TNT and TBS, as well as the streaming service ESPN+.

Now I have a decision to make. Should I drop YoutubeTV and just go with this? I really don't watch any live TV outside of sports and I think this would cover all the sports I watch. Anything on NBC or CBS I can watch OTA.

Seems like a high entry point for them given they have clearly signaled they plan on raising the price soon. Until either they reduce the number of blacked out games and/or include NBC/CBS sports into this you'll still need two services for NFL or NBA. (yeah locals work, but DVR kinda hard not to have out of the box and don't want to go back to having to roll my own locally).

Going to be a wait and see for me for sure. I welcome the competition at least.
