It's my opinion that Garland should have been granted a hearing.  That doesn't mean I think we should replace all Senators who failed to give him one.  That would be a very stupid reason to vote for a Senator.

I vote for what I view as in my own best interest and I think party politics is stupid.  Right now, I view Cruz as less of a threat to my livelihood than Beto is.

Sorry to shift courses here, but a question about the early voting tally.  I assume that those votes are already being counted, even if the results are not being released.  Does anyone know how and when the early votes are counted?   Is it possible actual voting numbers are being leaked to the campaigns?

Why is someone worried about Dems stopping the oil industry from thriving?  I don’t think the oil boom is due to Obama policies but he didn’t try to stop it.

If anything, trumps steel tariffs are hurting the oil industry.

I don’t think they’ve been counted other than the overall count.

Except that's proven to be a poor strategy in 2018 - milquetoast moderate Democrats get blown out or ignored.

I’m not saying this is incorrect, but I don’t understand this.  He likely could have swayed my households votes. The wife for sure.

There are multiple ways to strengthen background checks so it’s a difficult question to answer.  Look at what some other States have done to improve background checks and that should give you an idea.

Connecticut is probably among the strictest.

His point was that stricter regulatory control re: environmental policy would hinder US oil production.

I think it's a red herring, unless of course we reach the point where "fracking = illegal", but that's not going to happen.  Not even close.

He was using hyperbolic rhetoric. Calm down Huck.
No he wasn't, he was attempting the tried and true tactic of deflecting from real complaints by falsely stating that the same complaint is made toward everyone.

Waiting periods and permits.

Permits? And a waiting period is not making the actual check "stronger". How can we make the checks stronger?....you know the thing everyone wants.

never mind the fact that Beto has repeatedly stated that he he knows the importance of the fossil fuel industry in Texas. He wants to strengthen Texas as an energy leader, not weaken it (like Cruz and Trump have)

You’re just going to have to do your own research on this one because I’m actually on your side here.  The only gun regulation I’m for is reducing the magazine capacities to something like 10.  Yes, I know that won’t reduce the number of mass shootings but no one needs 20+ rounds to kill a deer just like no one needs a fully automatic weapon.

So, in other words, you don't have an answer.

You are wound up pretty tight this morning man. I read it as a snarky intro to an otherwise responsive post to Roma. But whatever.

I mean, I can copy and paste shit from other states' background checks but you're not worth the time since you DGAF anyway.

When I was still O&G I remember sitting at the table of our executives at a town hall, after Obama was elected to his second term. CEO straight up said “well, no hiring, no raises, no one get comfortable”. There is a reason the industry is red af.  windmills and rainbow power don’t do shit for a pipeliner. It’s as simple as that.

Im sure Beto understands how important it is, I’m also certain he thinks renewables are a good idea. And renewables are at best a lost opportunity for someone in O&G.

It's perfectly fine to disagree with Beto on his stances or votes in Congress.  However if you sat down with most Texans and explained the issues, I think most would agree with Beto over Cruz.  Yes, there are definite areas of disagreements and that's fair.

However when Texans state the immigration is their #1 issue, it tells me that they don't understand the issues.  They've been frightened into MS13 invading their homes each night.  And that just isn't the case.  However in order to keep the Giant Cheeto in power, someone has to pay the price, even if its poor immigrants seeking a better life.

And to be honest, I think if you had a open conversation with Cruz, he would be perfectly fine with open, temporary immigration or guest worker programs.  He's 100% of a free market guy.  But he can't say that given the rhetoric and scare tactics of his party.

Houston’s going to be fucked because of climate change but I guess that’s less important to O&G folks than their pocketbook. This shit disgusts me.

Doesn’t this conversation typically revolve around creating a national system and linking to federal criminal + publicly known mental health records? As far as I know the background check system is only presently administered on a state by state basis and there are differing standards and databases used.

Edit to add that it also means closing loopholes for online or gun show sales

Look at how Obama ruined the O&G industry from 2008-16.  [/sarcasm]

I get that many were worried about Obama ruining the oil boom but the facts don't support it.  It was just the biggest US-wide boom in the last 100 years.

Wait a minute.  I was told it was pure chaos at the border, MS 13 is running cities in Texas, and the caravan is right on our doorstep.

Are you suggesting none of that is actually happening?

NANCY PELOSI

SOCIALIST

TAXES

OPEN BORDERS

GEORGR SOROS FUNDED MOB

Every Democratic candidate for Senate, from Beto to McCaskill to Manchin to Feinstein, is getting hit with the same ads and talking points.  And none of those 4 are on the same spectrum of "the left."

Jesus Christ would be labelled as a "OMG A SOCIALIST" by these assholes.

I really don't know, hence the question. The current check system includes a comprehensive criminal background check, which prohibits anyone with a felony or family violence conviction on their record. I would have no problem with there being a nationwide check or standardized system for all states to follow. Not sure about the "public" mental health records....do those exist?

I don't take any of the impeachment talk seriously because it started before he was even sworn into office and all I've seen from the Dems is #resist.  It's the exact same kind of shit I didn't like about the Tea Party.

We just saw a supreme court justice get voted in along party lines and insanely dirty politics along the way.  You have to be fucking brain dead not to connect that was a political game.

Come to the table and work with the seated President and compromise where you can.  There has been zero attempt to do that by the dems just like there was severe resistance by the tea party.  If you can't do that (regardless of party) then you are acting like a fucking child that didn't get their way.  Stop trying to make the country fail and offer some constructive ideas.

2008 through 2016 says hello.

He wants to keep the O&G but also start investing in renewables like solar, wind and tidal.  I have a hard time understanding why this is so bad for anyone.  It brings new jobs and money into Texas without killing off others.  We are not going to walk away from O&G tomorrow, we can't.   But it's a scare tactic used too often.

I love how the democrats are just supposed to bow down and work with Trump, the fake president that's a fucking idiot and vilifies them every chance he gets.

Why can't Trump work with the democrats on compromising?

Yeah. Offshore sucked.  I guess I should have included that detail.  Great time to be in West Tx though.
