Cruz vs Beto

Why is there so little discussion about the hypocrisy of Cruz's immigration policy?  His father was given political asylum in the U.S. after he got out of Cuba by bribing a government official  there.  Yet thousands of people fleeing violent totalitarian regimes are now treated as criminals  upon reaching U.S. soil.

It's hard to understand anyone's relationship from the outside but I find it interesting that Heidi moved to Houston because that would allow her to be relatively close to Ted when he started working for the Texas govt.  she worked in Houston and spent weekends in Austin.  She says she wanted to stay on the East Coast but sacrificed for her marriage.  Fast forward to now, and she's elected to stay in Houston even though Ted is in DC most of the time.    It's not like they would be the first politicians to effectively make DC their home, while maintaining a residence in your home state.  She doesn't seem to want to take that route.

As for that story, it is a bit tone deaf that you quietly complain that between a senator's salary and a Goldman Sachs' managing director salary, they just can't afford a second house yet.  I also question if she's really working 70 hour weeks.  I would think her position in GS is basically guaranteed as a spouse of a US senator.  In what scenario would they release her in any circumstance.

Probably getting cucked by some guy who doesn't elbow her in the face, play Disney songs at weddings and is 1 human being, not made up many beings.

Just had time to watch the town hall. Beto looked a lot better with time to flesh out his ideas, talk like an actual person, and not deal with Ted Cruz's games. It seems like a huge mistake for Ted to skip it. It was basically an hour-long Beto ad.

I believe that actually only a small minority of supporters endorse Ted Cruz himself.  It's more that someone doesn't want a Democrat in office.    No one can point to Ted doing anything.  He stands for things but I think his only achievement was shutting down the federal govt for a couple of weeks in 2013 that ultimately accomplished nothing for the GOP.   I will give him credit that he was apart of something but it lead to nothing.  It actually negatively affected many workers including non-govt workers.

They didn't have their faces turned to smelly paraffin or their spines removed.

Cost of living + good jobs/salaries + no state tax = disposable income for cool things (has always been my take on why it's cool to live in Texas)

You must not own a house or buy things.

There are currently 17 states with lower total tax burdens than Texas.

Well sure, but the other things are maybe even more important in conjunction with the lack of a state tax or higher taxes (the tax burden is just a cherry on top). No other place where my house could have more than doubled in value in a hot RE market in 5 years has such a great cost of living and mix of economic center with great jobs/pay in relative abundance to choose from.

New Hampshire's booming. Its housing market is running wild, its unemployment rate is 2.5%, and its tax burden is much lower than Texas'.   The same is true of Colorado.

But the point that I took issue with was that Texas has "no state tax."  That's just untrue.

Fair enough, I should have said state income tax. Also, you might be right these days, but I find it hard to believe the COLA and income opportunities and abundance is as good in Colorado as in Texas. And your NH comment is a good one (and a reason a lot of people live just across the border in NH and work in other metro areas is due to no taxes I’ve learned) but it reminds me of:

That Houston Chronicle endorsement includes scathing criticism of Cruz:

"Ted Cruz — a candidate the Chronicle endorsed in 2012, by the way — is the junior senator from Texas in name only. Exhibiting little interest in addressing the needs of his fellow Texans during his six years in office, he has kept his eyes on a higher prize. He's been running for president since he took the oath of office — more likely since he picked up his class schedule as a 15-year-old ninth-grader at Houston's Second Baptist High School more than three decades ago. For Cruz, public office is a private quest; the needs of his constituents are secondary."

"There's one more reason O'Rourke should represent Texas in the U.S. Senate: He would help to serve as a check on a president who is a danger to the republic. Cruz is unwilling to take on that responsibility. Indeed, the man who delighted in calling the Texas senator "Lyin' Ted" all through the 2016 presidential campaign, who insulted Cruz's wife and his father, is bringing his traveling campaign medicine show to Houston next week to buoy the Cruz campaign. The hyperbole, the hypocrisy and the rancorous hot air just might blow the roof off the Toyota Center."

Worth reaflding the whole thing.

Y'all see the Astro fans on tv at all this past week (especially the first row in the outfield where they interfered with the HR)? That's Cruz's red meat, no wonder he's making 9 stops. A mixutre of a bunch of fat, middle-aged wypipo, some fat lower-class "blew my whole month's check on these seats" wypipo and a few fat/old oil & gas middle management types.

Like the mentally ill guy with the mustard pants says, "GO TO THE WOODLANDS, NOT MONTROSE!". Houston and it's hundreds of suburbs should be like ground zero for Cruz.

i have to think that cruz is making a mistake by giving beto the stage to himself tonight.

but then again, he may be doing himself a favor by not taking the stage tonight.

if i was a cruz strategist, i think i tell him to go there, don't attack beto, throw red meat out, and take up some time.

30 minutes (or 24, assuming commercials or whatever) for beto is better than 60 (or 48) for a comfortable beto who doesn't have to share the stage. that's his game; that's where he is most comfortable.

You’re right. Beto is gonna seize the Thursday night CNN viewer in Texas that’s unsure if they’re gonna vote for Beto or not.  That’s gotta be at least 10 people.

Yeah, I have never understood that false belief especially when some areas are paying 3-3.5% property tax in Texas. The reason your property taxes are so high is because of the no state income tax, and the tax breaks given to businesses. I would rather pay a state income tax and reduce property taxes significantly and spread that cost across all workers vs just home owners.

L O to the power of L:
there’s a plane flying over west Houston right now and it is towing a giant banner with BETO in the “Ghostbuster” NO circle and reads “because socialism sux”

Well, socialism does suck. And the Beto's of the world need to stop hiding their true intentions.
