Here is an example of a poster who:

a) enjoys playing along with the inherently racist and, frankly, stupid idea that Beto is somehow trying to portray himself as Hispanic,

b) adds nothing of any value to the conversation and is only wanting to troll,

c) doesn't know how to post a simple gif without leaving some garbage url link cluttering up his post, and

d) misappropriates the name of a fine vintage computer game for his handle.

Zork should be embarrassed of his worthlessness.

Take the loss, pussy.  And take your signs down now too because it is the law after 10 days.

BTW, did you get permission for your avatar picture?  (not that I give a shit)

Edit: I added the google link so you could find many, many, more gifs that describe the joke I was making about Beto being so close to winning.  Take the joke, pussy.

You're angry because this state is turning its back on your backwoods beliefs.

Understand, I can put up with a temporary setback while knowing the long game wins. I've been doing it my entire adult life. I guess you're now starting to understand you're on the wrong end of historical trends and just can't take that loss, pussy.

Go fuck yourself, zork. God knows your wife certainly doesn't want to.

Republicans know they are losing this state. It's only a matter of time. Just look at the cities and suburbs. They are growing much faster than rural areas and they vote for Democrats.

That is an existential problem for Texas Republicans. zork knows this and that's why he is lashing out.

That may be the wishful thinking. People can't stand Cruz and he still won. Beto had charisma working well for him but who can the democrats put out that can be that appealing? I don't think it was Beto's policy that made him that popular.

It’s over as the burbs will continue to go more blue. Republicans got in bed with the anti-intellectual redneck crowd and had a great 30 year run. Terrible idea for the long game and now the chickens are coming home to roost. The message played well with white people that are now 50+ and being replaced with people that are more diverse, aren’t terrified of minorities, and don’t have the same perverse version of patriotism that the current Texas Republicans espouse.

The Texas burbs that are growing quickly will turbo fuck the gerrymandering that was built around them staying red. The state legislature already saw major changes in the last election led by the Dallas burbs. They will also blow the electoral college up on the national level as the state becomes more urbanized. It’s a great time to be a Williamson county democrat. My vote has gone from being virtually worthless to being on the edge of the fight. My state rep is a pro-education democrat. Zork and Swam can watch with horror as the dan patricks and sid Millers no longer have a place in the leadership of Texas. The rest of us will be better off.

It's not wishful thinking. It's what's happening right now.

If you want to see what Texas is going to look like in 20 years, look at California.

Never going to happen. Do you think California is painted in a positive light?

Why do you think so many people are moving OUT of California to Texas? No one wants to be in a welfare state and have homeless camps where drug use is rampant. The housing cost and taxes are insane over there.

Because it's a straw man. What's the point?

It doesn't make a lot of sense for a person who left a top democratic state to keep voting blue if they didn't like where the state was headed. Democrats will not have another Beto in Texas and the Republicans will push a more appealing candidate next election. Beto really was the left's best chance of flipping Texas.

If you don't think there's a mass exodus from California to Texas because of how ridiculous it is living over there then we can go ahead and agree to disagree.

Well duh, they just didn't want to pull on their bootstraps as hard as the first class fliers

Its expensive because its a popular place to live.  Not everyone can afford first class.  That doesn't mean that people dislike what first class has to offer.  In fact, what they want from California is more socialism whereby they can lottery into affordable housing developments.  Pretty much the opposite of Texas' current buildout into open land.  Texas will end up where California is once its cities completely mature whether the people currently living there want it to or not.

Beto would be a one off thing against an unpopular candidate who created a lot of energy and still lost by 10 points if it wasn't for the fact that the GOP is driving away educated and middle class people across the country by pandering to their new base with abhorrent values and rhetoric.  The idea that Texas turns blue as it turns hispanic is fantasy the misunderstands the diversity of hispanic people in Texas.  The idea that Texas will stay red because of its traditional values is something pushed by people who have forgotten what their values are or at least were supposed to be.

Of course you know I meant sucking as a poster but go ahead and take your autocorrect shot.

Seriously though. What happened to you? Same think happened to Tahoe.

What do you mean?  Taking a shot at the Beto supporters?  Are you all really that sensitive?  As much shit as you all give Cruz, and rightly so in many cases, you would think  when your guy actually loses to him that you might expect a jab to that effect.  Seriously, Beto lost to fucking Cruz.  Be honest.

Herculean effort matched with good looks, according to our 'Bama matron, and a zillion dollars and all the positive press coverage he could ever want and he still lost.

Virtually any non-positive towards Democrats post is negged.  Simple differing opinions, much less strident or cutting remarks, also.   No sense in even delving into the more controversial topics.  Much less attempting to defend the king bullshit reality tv say anything PotUS.

I still read the CR some, not near as much in the past, but don't comment much anymore unless there is something that is not being reported mostly.

Still follow UT sports which is why most of us graduates gravitated to these sites as far back as the 90's.  Life goes on without the CR though.

I'm not going to address the drug use part of your question but will the other parts...

Do you honestly believe taxes will lower in Texas? Take an honest look at what they are now and where they will go. Individuals pay both property and income taxes (businesses enjoy a recently lowered rate). More or less, we are sitting on a two-legged revenue stool (sales & property taxes) that is unsustainable. The lowering of the corporate tax rate has pushed the education costs more on the individual, and that's why our property tax rates have gone up. We've shifted the cost to educate kids from a statewide burden to a local one.

Children aren't going away. In fact, we'll increasingly have more of their education to pay for in the future. That's just a matter of math. And, based on our current funding model, the tax burden is going to be increasingly placed on the individual who lives in districts that have lots of growth in the number of kids.

Now, add in the fact that Texas suburbs are growing at a rapid rate, which drives up the cost of dirt and housing and, therefore, increases the property tax burden (regardless of the taxable rate). It's an unsustainable model that will implode in the next decade.

You can kiss your "low tax Texas" goodbye. Frankly, it's pretty much already gone at this point anyway. The shift in tax burden in the rapidly growing suburbs almost guarantees a lash back, regardless of what happens to Hispanic demographics (which is a whole different story).

I am stupid because I called a man by his name?  Robert O'Rourke?  Got it.  I'm just jealous I guess because I'm half Mexican and I didn't get a cool nickname yet.
BTW-I didn't vote for Ted.  But your head can't fit nuance, so I digress.....

When your name is Vale Vergas, you don’t get any cool nicknames :/

Sorry bro.

It's expensive because the state keeps raising taxes like how they just raised gas prices 40%. The high cost of living, including housing, is without a doubt the most important issue in CA and it's pushing the middle class out. I don't buy the idea of affordable housing developments happening at all. Texas will not be like California no matter how woke you think you are about this. That's just absurd.

California is an example of what NOT to do. It's saving grace is the weather while on the coast but then you have the earthquakes and wildfires. Fuck that.

Texas will run into a water shortage soon enough.

Were in the middle of one now. Sure this year all the lakes filled up with the rain we had, but we didn't build any new lakes, either. As soon as the weather shifts back to drought we'll be right back in the same old drydocked boat.

Yeah, must be tough being the center of innovation for entire planet and having world class food, drink, music, art, and culture everywhere around you. But they do have some immigrants there :(

I don't like California because I don't really like the people, but anyone who thinks California is struggling in any way imaginable is beyond stupid. It's one of the most prosperous and desirable places on Earth.

All is well in California for the middle class. The insane housing market, high taxes, high cost of living, and homeless crisis are totally worth it (roughly a 1/4 of the homeless population live in CA).

Looks like we'll all agree to disagree then.

CA is an indicator of the direction the prosperous parts of the US, including Texas, are heading.  The good and the bad of it.  No point in pointing fingers.  Complain about the future you don't like, sure, but what are the specific proposals for a different future?

The middle class is California is leaving in droves, it’s very depressing. This board will justify this disaster, so get ready for the but Silicon Valley! battlecry.

Speaking of Bakersfield, I visited my cousin that still lives there last summer and helped scatter my uncle’s ashes. He was missing a couple incisors and hit me up for some money because his car was stolen. After talking with my aunt, his car had been “stolen” 5 times that month. It seems there’s a horrible meth epidemic (just glance at the street corners) and the middle class is about to be surpassed by the lower class. Oh California, what a damn mess.

About once/week, in TEXAS, I see a brand new fresh CPS case involving a newborn BABY testing positive for meth.

Correct.  Not really the right topic heading for this discussion.

But I have seen enough California "bashing" for it to warrant its own thread.  State rivalry aside, a separate topic would be a good place to get some of the facts out there, lest we repeat some of Cali's mistakes. I will also say Texas can only dream of having a heyday like California.

Liberal utopia isn't coming. Gun control and raising taxes will be the end of any Democrat running.
