Cody Wilson is not in U.S., says APD. He's in Taipei, Taiwan, and recently skipped his flight back home.

I used to live there so this hits close to my former home.

I was aware of Statutory rape, wasn't sure if deception clouded the statute.

It’s a strict liability offense. She could have shown him a fake ID, passport, and birth certificate all stating her to be 18, and he’s still just as guilty.

I wonder if those travel plans were in place before he found out.

It sounds likely.

Police do not know why Wilson went to Taiwan, only that he frequently travels there for business, Officer said.

What happens to the lawsuit (mentioned below) if Cody doesn't return, or returns and is incarcerated?

Quote

The Second Amendment Foundation and Defense Distributed have amended their lawsuit to include four more state and local officials, accusing them of “unconstitutional prior restraint” by attempting to prevent online sharing of 3-D firearms printing technology despite a Justice Department settlement of a lawsuit earlier this summer.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas in Austin, now names New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Pennsylvania Gov. Thomas Wolf, Delaware Attorney General Matthew Denn, Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, along with original defendants, New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal and L.A. City Attorney Michael Feuer. A settlement between Defense Distributed and the U.S. Justice Department ending a lengthy legal action that would have allowed the Texas-based firm to post its 3-D printing information online, as of Aug. 1.

But the defendants, according to the amended complaint, “are so eager to abridge the Second Amendment’s right to keep and bear Arms that they are willing abridge the First Amendment as a means of doing so.”

“Under the color of state law, the Defendants are denying us our civil and constitutional rights by waging a coordinated and politically fueled campaign to censor Defense Distributed,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb.

“What these public officials are attempting is an unconstitutional exercise of prior restraint,” he added. “They are trying to prevent Defense Distributed and its founder, Cody Wilson, from exercising free speech.”

Wilson and SAF had been engaged in a lawsuit against the government for preventing the online publication of the 3-D technology. But when the settlement was announced earlier this year, the officials named in the complaint launched an effort to block it from taking effect.

“This has turned into a classic First Amendment case,” Gottlieb said. “Only because this case involves technical information on production of firearm components on a 3-D printer have these anti-rights officials acted to squelch it. We cannot allow this to happen.”

Caught, according to the AASpaceman...

Cody Wilson, the Austin man behind 3D-printed guns who has been accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl, has been arrested in Taiwan, according to media outlet Taiwan News.

The publication reported that a real estate agent alerted police in the Taiwanese capital of Taipei that Wilson had signed a six-month lease for a studio after seeing news reports that the 30-year-old was wanted for sexual assault in Texas.

Jfc.

At least give yourself a chance.

dude first, you empty your bank account which hopefully has at least $3-4K. Then you grab a boat to Hong Kong, then on to Vietnam. You’d be able to live well in Vietnam for 6mos or OK for about a year.

Should give a enough time to find a job to get by.

if you can make it a few more years you might be able to slip into Western Australia with some fake docs and live in a desolate, ruggedly beautiful wasteland. But there’ll be plenty of pigs to shoot.

The dumbass wasn't even as smart as the Affluenza kid and his mom. They'd have still been free in Mexico if they could have held off on pizza.

Maybe he  was hoping 6 months was enough time for the scabies on his upper thighs to heal?

Cody Wilson is such a smug, fake, self-anointed smartest-guy-in-the-room militant libertarian dicknose. His shameful downfall couldn't happen to a more deserving UT law grad.

my bro just got out out TDCJ custody in June after doing 11 years. Can confirm that sex offenders do in fact routinely get the shit beat out of them. Also mentions that there are no fancy enemas in prison. Anal sex leaves a miasma of fuck-shit particles that sort of hang in the air, leaving a telltale stench of sodomy that lingers. He also told me this idiom which I try to use in conversation as much as possible: "No matter how long a bottom bitch has been someone's punk, sooner or later they gonna want to use their own thang." Use that as you see fit.

I don’t know that it was proven he fled. I thought he routinely had business travel to Taiwan. He just happened to be there when the victim’s friend alerted him.

I can’t understand why the friend had his number. Was he hanging with her whole crew? Definitely more to the story..

And perhaps his lawyer was told that if he promptly returned and handed over his passport, bail would be an option.

is the story that this guy knew the girl was underage or just that she was underage?  And since this wasn’t a dateline-type sting, how did this come to the attention of the police?   As others have said, there has to be more to this story then this guy picking up an underage hooker via the web.

There really doesn't. Pederasts gonna pederast. Don't blame a 16-year old when a 30 year old fucks her and he gets caught, blame the 30 year old for fucking her. It's not that hard.

As far as we've seen, that she was just underage. We'll have to wait for more evidence to see if she ever said her age.

Affidavit. She told her counselor who in Texas is required by law to report suspected child abuse.

He's a "big deal".  There are reports she looks younger than 16 rather than older. So this guy probably knew what he was shopping for and purchased it.

He cancelled his return flight, leased an apartment, and didn’t turn himself into the authorities when the US Marshall warrant went out so there’s some decent evidence he was trying to flee prosecution.

WTF. You're flipping around my statement.  I'm not blaming the 16 year old.   A guy pays an underage hooker, seemingly strangers to each other, and then at some point in the future he gets arrested.  I'm glad he was caught.  If all true, he deserves to be arrested and convicted.   There just seems to be something missing from the story the public has been told and perhaps that is related to protecting the 16 year old's identity.

FYI, if I was out of the country for business or personal travel, and I was told that I would be arrested upon my arrival at home.  I might pause to first understand what is awaiting my return.  Get a lawyer calling the DA.  I wouldn't lease an apt but I might postpone an immediate trip back just to see if it can be cleared up without my arrest.  Now if my lawyer told me that postponing my travel would make me look guilty, I would get on the plane.

Or drive a white bronco until your lawyer sorts out the misunderstanding with the police?

I apologize - not saying you are blaming the 16 year old, I was not careful with my wording. But the "there has to be more to the story" isn't accurate.  With people like this, most of the times, it is as simple as "he fucked an underage girl and got caught," end of story. There's not some grand conspiracy out to get him. The system (mandatory reporting from professionals) worked and he's now found out for what he is - a pederast.

To be fair, she was presumably post-pubescent so he's not a pedophile.

You are possibly right, but I would hope that's not an argument his lawyer will use in court. "He broke the law in multiple ways - he in posession of child pornography, he raped an underage woman, he paid for that sex, but damnit, he's not a pedophile, he's a hebophile".

Remember, its been reported that she looked younger than 16, not older. So its entirely possible he was out searching for girls that looked prepubescent which makes him a... pedophile.
