So if he Starts a new Patriot Party, what does that do to @Brisketexan 's bet about Trumpism taking over the Republican party through 2024?

You forgot to take into account how non-strategic and full of stupid Trump is, Brisket! He will fuck his own face despite himself because he ain't but dumb.

I've been waiting to see who blinks first, corporate Rs or Trump Rs.

As an actual Socialist, this makes me haz a sad, because Democrats will become the default landing point for the vastly outnumbered corporate Rs, who will keep the party from its necessary leftward turn after four decades of drifting right, but as someone who fucking hates goddamned Nazis, hey, whatever keeps them out of power, I gotta be for.

I am deeply skeptical that this will work. Our system is just not cut out for three parties.  A party with no ideology other than rage and allegiance to a figurehead can sometimes get enough traction to seize power in a parliamentary system, but our system is almost designed to prevent that from happening. And the people who this is designed to appeal to are not the sort that will be good at things like organizing, developing a coherent platform, and maintaining party discipline which is key to making it work.

On that note, I, along with many of you here, have noticed that the most vehement Trump supporters in my life are really broken people. Not the "I always vote R crowd" or even the "I want fewer Mexicans here and I'm willing to vote Trump to get that" crowd-- but the real, kool-aid drinking MAGA core. I'm talking mental illnesses, strings of professional and personal failures, open and long-running conflicts with family members, substance abuse, legal issues, etc.  This is not to excuse them-- in many cases they are suffering what is known as "actions have consequences" (with acknowledgment of human frailty when it comes to mental issues, addiction, etc).  These folks often need a helping hand and a push, but what Trump offered is a vision of the world in which it's everyone else who is responsible for their problems, and that in fact their disordered behavior and thinking provided solutions.

Corporate.  They need that money, because money buys them power, and they've had too many issues with Trumpanzees costing them money and unneeded/unwanted attention.

Trump Rs rely on Trump's good graces to get them power.

Mostly the same here, and the thing, they weren't politically active before Trump, at least among the folks I know.

So here's hoping they'll drop out of the spotlight.

The ones I know are a mixed bag. Some were not as fervent as to go to rallies, etc but they were all aboard the 'team' aspect and specifically 'owning the libs.' They really really really liked the semblance of having power over someone--to make them 'suffer' so to speak. It was disturbing to observe. I suppose it grew from their perception of control in their own lives, but the degree to which they shed any policy or truth simply to have that ONE thing, was revealing.

This may be the best post I've seen on this board in a long long time.

I'm on the executive board of a sober living facility housing ~45 men who primarily come from rehab, prison, or the streets.  I was there at the crack of dawn today for a meeting and if I were to take a straw poll of the residents, 75% would be full blown trumptards.  It's completely counter-intuitive and illogical.

I'm actually very excited about our new TX House speaker being a different republican.  I went to HS and college with his older brother, and his uncle is one of my closest friends and someone that preceded me on the board of the aforementioned facility.  And his wife has been a guardian ad litem for kids in CPS care and has worked closely with my wife.  He comes from a well respected family, let's see how he does.

For as long as most of us can remember, the loudest voices in the liberal media and prominent Democrat politicians have told us that Republicans are hateful.

This is one of the big lies they tell. Most Republicans, of course, know that they aren't hateful and never have been, and for much of the last 25 years or longer, many on our side responded to the lie by trying to prove to Democrats that it is indeed a lie. "Really, I'm not that way! I promise!"

But I sense a shift in the average Republican voter.

There is a growing certainty that a large percentage of the country really and truly hates them. They feel the left hates them because the left repeatedly tells them how terrible they are. It's a pack of lies. They're racists. They hate science. They don't care about the poor. They're dumb. They're conspiracy theorists. They are a "rot" in the country.

And the average GOP voter is losing the desire to say yet again, "Really, I'm not that way! I promise!" The average GOP voter has lost all patience with the lies.

Instead of trying to prove them wrong, at least what I am sensing, is that they are ready to say, "Fine. F you. You want to hate me over a bunch of bull**** lies? Well, f you. I'm done caring 1/2 a dog crap what you think. Go F yourself."

Cue the Star Wars emperor gif: "Good, let the hate flow through you."

All the post-DC riot moves to silence and shame Republicans just make it worse. I would like to be rationally disturbed by the DC riot, but given that Nancy Pelosi, AOC and company want to blame me for it, I find myself thinking the entire thing is overblown. I am not alone.

Not sure where this goes, but the left has lived for all their lives with a mostly good hearted GOP. They have no idea what the country will look like when the other 1/2 finally starts to hate them back.

*Bolded*

Out of all the phrases to pick up from the media coverage lately, of course he hones in on this one. Without contemplating the context surrounding it. Surreal.

That is awesome. Would have been even better if the paper applied some better web design and had the footnotes appear on mouse over or appear in the negative white space, rather than scrolling down to the bottom of the page.

That is awesome - a bit embellished by the guy zooming in on the cell phone video, but definitely not accidental.  Worth posting the unedited version.  (For those that didn't click Crash's link, listen to the lyrics as the cameraman keeps Mitch in frame ...)

Oddest thing, they don't notice when they call black people thugs, "Obama's son," or worse and then ask black people to shrug it off like it's no big deal.

Correct.  And we should continue to do so until they stop exhibiting that behavior.

OMG, the deficit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Fucking funny as shit. The fucksticks can't help themselves.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/right-on-schedule-republicans-pretend-to-care-about-deficits-again/2021/01/21/a749e500-5c17-11eb-a976-bad6431e03e2_story.html?utm_source=reddit.com

It’s almost like clockwork. As soon as a Democrat enters the White House, Republicans pretend to care about deficits again.

“The one thing that concerns me that nobody seems to be talking about anymore is the massive amount of debt that we continue to rack up as a nation,” Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) complained during a confirmation hearing this week for Treasury Secretary-nominee Janet Yellen. “For me,” he continued, “that is a huge warning sign on the horizon, the fact that we have an ever-growing deficit, an ever-growing debt and no apparent interest in taking the steps that are necessary to address it.”

His colleague Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) likewise carped that U.S. deficit levels are “frightening.” Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) piled on, saying that waiting for interest rates to rise to indicate that debts are unsustainable would be “too late.”

And so Republicans laid the groundwork for blocking the Biden administration’s request for more covid-19 fiscal relief, on the grounds that further spending is not merely unnecessary but also irresponsible. Despite ongoing economic and public health needs.

These foul-weather fiscal hawks neglect to mention, of course, that the GOP’s prized 2017 tax cuts added nearly $2 trillion to deficits — back when the economy was doing okay.

Nor did they note that — again, before the coronavirus pandemic — the Republican-controlled Senate passed and President Donald Trump signed spending bills that added another $2 trillion to deficits. That was on top of what the country had already been expected to borrow over a decade, according to estimates from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.
