You may have it confused with what, up until a few years ago, was called the Kountry Kitchen Kafe in Hico, Lampasas's neighboring town.  Now they have removed the racism and just call it Koffee Kup. I guess that was around the time they removed the mural of a lynching from downtown.

Ha! No, it was the Lampasas one... I couldn't remember the name so I used Google Street View to find the cafe with that wagon train looking stuff on the building. Was taking the scenic back route from Waco to Helotes.

Come to think of it, I passed through Lampasas before that going from Austin to Cross Plains and back. Didn't stop, ghost of R.E. Howard advised me to keep moving.

Why would you go to Cross Plains? I know why you came back, but why did you go there?

I was on a literary mission to see the home of Texas' greatest pulp fiction writer, Robert E. Howard.

I don't think Pete is an all-star in the making, but he has the temperament that guys like myself lack:  he is able to calmly refute bullshit, without rancor, and without blowing up.  I would have gone nonlinear halfway into that clip.  Guess I'll keep my day job.

He has a great smirk that conveys the proper amount of disdain for the morons without being off-putting

I guess it's probably the reason to go to Cross Plains? TIL, thanks.

There was an ok Tinytown Restaurant there that was alright, waiter asked what made us visit. We said REH, he said "Oh that crazy guy." Nothin like a spiteful speck of a home town to curse you after you're in the grave.

Same.  No way could I ever be a politician.  I would tell them to fuck themselves and that they should be stabbed within a minute.

I’m in Kerrville, at Discount Tire. The truck in front of mine’s rear windshield has the appropriate Salt Life sticker on the left, but on the right side is a picture of an AR-15 with “Pew Pew Specialist” underneath it. The driver of aforementioned assault vehicle goes about 5’5 225lbs.

All about the Salt Life while living deep in the hill country, makes sense.

Yeah I just can’t imagine living afraid of everything - real and imagined all the damn time.

I’m a single middle aged woman who lives alone. Granted, I have a very large and protective dog with a VERY a threatening bark but I’m the only human in my home unless my daughter is home from college or my son is on leave. So - alone 95% of the time.

I’m in good shape and not unattractive but I do have a fucked up back and zero upper body strength and have never been in a physical fight in my life so I could very easily be physically overpowered.

I should be a prime example of someone who should have a gun for protection.

But guess what? I don’t feel the need to have one because I know it’s very unlikely I’ll ever need one. And chances are, if I did have one it would probably be pretty easy for someone to physically overpower me and take it to use against me.

I have an alarm system and cameras and that’s enough to deter most criminals or people with bad intent because those kinds of folks are mostly lazy and go for easy targets.

If I catch the attention of a true evil psycho or Ted Bundy, there’s probably nothing I could do to protect myself if someone made it their mission to harm me.

So why do so many men who already have a physical edge and aren’t statistically targets like women are feel so scared of everything and everyone? Why in the world do these men need guns in every room in their house and in their car and strapped to their bodies at all times?

I truly do not understand it. And how miserable must their day to day life be to feel so scared and angry all the damn time?
To answer your question, they don't want the guns because they are afraid they will have to defend themselves. They want the guns because they want to kill people they deem undesirable. Self-defense is both the excuse they need to do it and the copout that makes them believe they're still decent people.

It's been the Koffee Kup for at least close to twenty years now, but I always suspected there was a sinister history behind the name

I don't know exactly what the story is in that cluster of counties between Fort Worth and Brownwood, but it's been a hotspot for racist shit for a while now I guess.

Think I've mentioned this before, but a good high school friend of mine, who's Hispanic, was the editor of the Tarleton school paper in the early 1990s and also hosted a show on the school's station. In both an op-ed piece and a radio segment, he went off on how Comanche still had a hanging tree that should be cut down and had a rant about Hico's Koffee Kup Kafe. Shortly afterward, he started getting death threats and ended up having to break his lease and move.

I think it is a combo.  They are afraid of people they deem undesirable and given the chance or excuse, they will kill them.  Or at least they like to think they would.

Texas Republican Michael Cloud voted No.

He's in an interracial marriage - he's married to a naturalized citizen, a Mexican (technically former I guess).

Interesting that all of Utah's reps voted for this, but then again, there's plenty of Mormon interracial marriages these days.

There's actually another bill that's a counter to the Equality Act and has full support of the Mormon church. It's modeled on a bill that passed in Utah, and works to balance LGBTQAI rights and protections with respect for religious beliefs as well.

It ain't perfect, but at least it shows effort

How the fuck did he win? Wasn't his district one of the districts pinpointed after the 2016 election as a future win for Dems? Similar to the district Collin Allred eventually won in Dallas. I know a couple of Texas Exes ran in the democratic primary for his district with Sri ultimately being the winner of that primary.
