The GQP: Trumpist Death Cult

White men in the conspiracy-theory study were the most sensitive to perceived challenges to status, Petersen told me. But the researchers wrote that the need for chaos was “highest among racial groups facing historical injustice—in particular, Black males.”

Anti-elite conspiracy theories and tear-it-all-down rhetoric can appeal to groups who feel, sometimes quite rightly, aggrieved by long-standing injustice.

As we spoke, I recalled some of the radical rhetoric from the summer of 2020: “If this country doesn’t give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it,” Hawk Newsome, the chairman of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York, said during an interview with Fox News. “I could be speaking figuratively; I could be speaking literally. It’s a matter of interpretation.” When I think about our political and social institutions, I cannot help thinking, “Just let them all burn.”

Near to this is the economic situation we are in.  This has been my sense when we all repeat "they're voting against their interests!" It comes off as snobbish to me -- I know what you need and you couldn't possibly understand.  A lot these Trumptards are the losers of our society, so they vote for firebombing our society.  A chance that chaos ends up somehow benefitting is better than a status quo where they already know they will always lose, or so the mindset goes.

This is a new.  We used to have substantial economic mobility (a.k.a. "The American Dream").  Not so much anymore.

Quote

Male workers in recent years may be less likely to experience upward absolute earnings mobility over their careers than in years past due to labor market changes. As seen in Figure 3, when examining two cohorts of men entering the labor force, Maume and Wilson (2015) find that men entering the labor force in the 2000s in lowerearning trajectories (“slowmillennials”) saw growth similar to those who entered the labor force in the 1980s (“slow-boomers”), while wages grew faster for men in higher-earning trajectories (“rapid-millennials” vs. “rapid-boomers”). However, “slow” and “steady” trajectory men made up a greater percent of the male workforce in the millennial cohort (33% and 57%, respectively) than in the boomer cohort (27% for slow boomers and 46% for steady boomers), suggesting that men were more likely to experience slower wage growth in the 2000s than in the 1980s.

You can't grind your way out of losing any more.  So why should we expect loyalty to the system?

Last time I saw him, I just hugged him and told him I loved him and said that if he ever wants to come back I'll help him.  He just blinked in surprise and said, "I love you, too man, but... what do you mean?  Come back from what?"

It is very depressing to see good people who you once admired start to believe stupid, crazy shit.  And there’s nothing you can do about it.  For anyone reading this who is just now encountering loved ones buying into MAGA/QAnon bullshit, LET THEM GO.  Write them off.  Only pain will come from trying to engage with them.  Sad but true.

we just got into a text convo that ended like this basically. and I just put our texts on mute and his insta on mute. I can receive calls, text messages and DMs but if he abuses it, I'll end it.  It's so sad, I was so loving and he's so fucking mad at me right now. he's demanding I look at his crap and he won't look at mine and he just blasted Frontline as a media conspiracy against the truth.

Here's the thing, the shit they watch - like 2000 mules - and Frontline without a discriminating eye look similar. Introduction of the evidence usually with a person talking, show the evidence, explain what the evidence concludes with a person talking, period. Next chapter, introduction of the evidence, show the evidence, explain the evidence, period. Repeat until the story is told. But 2000 mules doesn't have evidence it has information that is explained to fit the narrative. The evidence is a woman at 1am dropping off 4 votes with a mask on. See, she's a mule, who votes at 1am? who wears a mask? who votes 4 times? What if she's a shift worker? What if she's taking her elderly mom and dad's vote and her husband's vote? what if she's got a mask because of COVID? none of that matters. geo fencing, people driving by voting drops 28 times and going to get out the vote non-profit shams!  They have like 3 videos of voter drop offs and claim thousands of mules. It's unreal what gets by these people.

Frontline on the other hand, a journalist introduces the evidence, the evidence is under oath witness testimony, then that witness explains in their own words on the show, then back to their under oath testimony, then a picture of trump from the national archives on the phone with people in the room from that conversation, then the indictment in words, then the commentator to draw the conclusion, period.  You know, real evidence.

You know what I'm going to do?

I'm going to double down on my kids. that's what i'm going to do.

I'm really sorry. In early 2020, I lost one of my best friends over all this shit--we'd been friends since the 6th grade and even roommates in college. He basically has cut off communication with our core group of about a half-dozen friends because of his devotion to Trump. It's all just so fucking sad.

It’s futile but tell him you’ll watch 2000 mules if he watches selections from the J6 hearings.

This one is testimony from the known RINO, deep state democrat, and trump appointed AG Bill Barr

I generally steer the discussion to questions like:

Why would barr tell trump the election stolen stuff was bullshit?

I try to end the debate with humor by saying how the democrats really suck at stealing elections because they let the mitch and lindsay get re-elected.

"Actually, check out these facts."

"Oh well that's a conspiracy."

Conspiracies are truths and truths are conspiracies. Good times.

the frontline documentary is essentially the story of the J6 hearings and the narrative of the indictment. He's already refused. see my post detail about the difference in evidentiary quality of 2000 mules and the Frontline doc.

this was my fav -

him: got it, groomers aren't a big deal.

me before: for every one drag queen or trans person that has abused a child or attempted to groom a child there are thousands of family members, pastors, scout leaders and dare I say little league coaches that have done the same.

wait, fav was this -

him: oh, y'all are on the same team?

me before: no, trans people are our people.

him before that: you know the L's, G's and B's don't like the T's.

* you read that right, i'm not out to him.

another fav -

him: why would he want that? I didn't see that.

me before: did you know Ken Paxton asked TxDOT for the names of every person in texas that changed their gender on their DL in the last two years?

to be fair, he did later say, no one should get between a patient and their doctor - abortion and trans kids included.  he was adamant about that.

This is what is most infuriating to me in this situation. He sees you as a friend that is uber successful, has a great family, great career, happy marriage, etc. He then can’t make the connection that you’re essentially living the life that life that everyone in the world aspires to, but people such as yourself are under attack by one party to vilify a group of our community as groomers, molesters, etc., when clear data shows that just not to be the case.

People like him just read conspiracy shit while “doing their research” and take it as gospel while not making the connection that someone in their close circle is someone under attack. It’s so intellectually weak to not be able to make that connection and question the BS that they are consuming.

stay vigilant with your family and kids and friends that are not lost. stay close to them. especially the little ones. there ARE social media channels out there trying to get young white males to dive head first into the Q world. it's quite dangerous.

I know I'm carpet bombing this thread right now, but thanks. I'm going to grieve for a day or two but it's time to move on. I will find other straight guys that are cool as shit that like to do cool shit with a cool lesbian and aren't lost. at our age, life long friends are a misnomer. friends come and go now. that's just reality. I have 4-5 life long friends that have stuck with me and that's just it, and I'll protect those to the death, but this guy is a 7-8 year friend and he's gone.

No apology necessary for all the posts. I, for one, find it interesting and sad at the same time to see real life stories play out in realtime as a reminder that this shit is real and it’s dangerous. I hear you on life long friends. I have five friends (was 6, but we tragically lost one to suicide) that I will protect to the end and have known each other for 30+ years. Others come and go, but those relationships persevere.

The interesting difference - at least to me - is legal disenfranchisement of liberal burn it to the ground groups versus perceived disenfranchised white male burn It to the ground types - unless the corruption is so complete we have no hope.  It leads to false equivalency arguments - they are all corrupt.

But when I say Ken Paxton is demanding DL data on gender changes he’s unaware, when I explain one party wants me dead he disagrees with that party and is unfazed. They are all corrupt makes Trump’s brazen corruption and criminality garden variety because they all are.

hey I’m just asking questions. It’s like they go to school to have talking points.

in the end politicians are complicated, all want power some wield it more elegantly others with brut force and blood thirst for more. I see a distinct difference but he does not so full circle if they are all the same give me the guy that screams the other side is corrupt the loudest. I guess.

If they are truly all corrupt, don’t you want the group that will get you the most of what you want or at least the least of what you don’t want?

Unless you are 100Maire or greater, are a religious loony, or want a child bride, there is no reason I can think of at this point to pick a republican over a democrat

I dunno. You left out racists, xenophobes, misogynists, and homo(trans)phobes, of which one could be any without also being rich, a religious zealot, or a pedophile. Poke around the Lulz or football board, and I'd bet you could find lots of examples within minutes from our secular Surly crowd in the Lol pic thread alone.
