Here's a screenshot from the video above.  Several dumbasses screaming "assault and battery" and "don't touch our chairwoman."  Shit she's lucky the cops don't just walk into her house and shoot her.  Also, that's a sweet perm/mullet on the right (not really, it's a moronic haircut).

7-8 college kids moved into a multi-unit house across the street from me in Hyde Park this semester.  Typical young, white males.  Walked the dogs by this morning and there's a small dotard 2024 sign in their yard.  Will they actually vote?  I have my doubts.  I think it's just stupid kids being stupid kids and trying to be provocative (in our 99% blue neighborhood) and "go against the grain".  Now, of course it just makes them look small and stupid, but whatever dudes.  I'm sure there will be tons of chicks lining up at your door to hang out with you cool guys soon.

Bolded for emphasis.  Sure, they'll still have a shot with the vacuous sorority babes from the burbs (and hey, that's plenty fun), but it's a limiting move.  And that's just dumb.  Because any young male college student's rule #1 should be "avoid any and all manners of chick-repellent, because you need the pool of eligible talent to be as large as possible).  I mean, at least, that was Brisket's #1 rule.  I was happy to go after blonde Dallas sorority girls, pretty small-town girls of redneck origins, and hairy-armpitted social justice champions with equal dedication back in the day.  These guys are dumb, and have misplaced priorities.

That's actually a very interesting statistic, that about 70% of Republicans feel democrats are palatable enough to fuck, and 70% of democrats wouldn't fuck a Republican with a ten foot dildo.  I'd like to see it corrected for gender as I bet women comprise more of the Democratic Party than the Republican party.  In my own circles, I think the average person who still identifies as Republican is kind of clueless about how repulsive they've become through association with who they vote for.  They want to see their voting choices as a difference of opinion that shouldn't come between friends or family members.  Like we're just walking out of a movie theater and disagreeing about how shitty the last M. Night Shamalamadingdong movie was.  But their voting choices directly harm the health, well being or ability for other friends and family members to live, love and prosper.  So that has to be reconciled against how they may treat that person as an individual face to face, and they just can't see that they bear a responsibility for the real-world effects of their vote.

Yep. I say it all the time. Right now it’s not just policy disagreements. The current maga gop has no character, morals or integrity. It’s a non-starter at this point.

About that…

That’s funny-my wife and I are both Gen X and probably too old for the survey but we talked about politics early in our relationship and found common cause in opposing Republicans.

Somewhat unintentionally, but we don’t even hang around people that are Maga anymore (even family)-it’s just too hard to constantly police yourself and not say something that leads into conflict.

This. When I met and started dating my wife, I pretty consistently voted Republican (exception being I voted against Joe Arpaio in every election) and she was and still is a pretty hardcore Democrat (she grew up in Portland). At the time, she just rolled her eyes at my political leanings and pushed back when I would discuss politics.

While watching the DNC last week, I made a joke about her dating a Republican and could she imagine doing that now. We both laughed about it because the GQP has become something totally unrecognizable from what it once was and the people associated with that party stand for reprehensible positions. If either one of us was back in the dating pool at this point, being a Republican would be an instant dealbreaker. Back in my dating days, my 100% non-negotiable dealbreaker was being a smoker. Now, I would place being a Republican above that one.

In my experience, they bring it up on their own.  My BIL can't go 30 minutes without bringing up immigrants, regardless of the subject matter at hand.

It’s obviously a stereotype but my BIL is the same.  He’s probably one of the few who is more enthusiastic about the Trump ticket because of Kennedy’s endorsement.  He also believes in aliens and makes sure to explain his black friend is “one of the good ones.”

Texas Republicans haven't grasped the fact that our property tax system is based on taxing unrealized capital gains in respect to homeowners. And actually it's not capital gains but total asset value with a small exemption.

But not surprising that Texas GOPers haven't connected those dots.

Spoiler

I had a dream last night I was cast into Hell by a jealous God
The Devil walked up and said, "You don't need no lightning rod
It hardly ever rains down here, I can't recall the last storm
You ain't gonna need that leather jacket, it gets kinda warm
But there's one way in there's no way out
It looks like you're here to stay
The place is a mess, it's overcrowded, more are coming in everyday"

I said, "Oh man, wait a minute there's gotta be something wrong
I ain't a bad guy, just write these little songs
I always pay my union dues, I don't stay in the passing lane"
And he said, "What about all that whiskey and the cocaine"
I said, "Well, yeah, but that's no reason to throw me in Hell
'Cause I didn't use the cocaine to get high
I just liked the way it smelled"

He said, "Come on over here son, let me show you around
Over there's where we put the preachers, I never liked those clowns
They're always blaming me for everything wrong under the sun
It ain't that harder to do what's right, it's just maybe not as much fun
Then they walk around thinking they're better than me and you
And then they get caught in a motel room
Doing what they said not to do"

"Now the murderers and the rapists they go in this fiery lake
As well as most of the politician and the cops on the take
And all the mothers who wait till they get to K-Mart to spank their kids
And instead of showing what to do what's right
They just hit 'em for what they did
And all the daddy's who run off and abandon their daughters and sons
Oh, anybody who hurts a child is gonna burn until it's done"

"Everybody is down here", I said
"Who's up in Heaven with God and the Son"
Oh, some saints and mystics and students of metaphysics one O one
People who care and share and love and try to do what's right
Beautiful old souls who read a little stories to their babies every night
What you won't find up in Heaven are
Christian Coalition Right Wing Conservatives
Country program directors and Nashville record executives

Now I said, "I've made some mistakes, but I'm not as bad as those guys
How can God do this to me or can't He sympathize
He said, "You're wrong about God being cruel and mean
Oh, God is the most loving thing that's never been seen"
I said, "Hotshot tell me this which religion is the truest"
He said, "There all about the same
Buddha was not a Christian, but Jesus woulda made a good buddist"

Well, I thought about my future, I didn't seem to have much of one
I looked around to leave but there was no place to run
I said, "I don't suppose I could go back and try living again
You know like reincarnation, I hear that's the way it's always been"
"I can't answer that", he said
"You're gonna have to wait for that response
But it's not any more unusual to be born twice than it is to be born once"

Well, it looked like I was gonna be stuck here as far as I could tell
I thought I might as well suck up, you know what the hell
I said you, "You know that song that Charlie Daniels did
About how you went down to Georgia and played fiddle against that kid"
He said, "Yeah it broke my heart but you know what are you gonna do
I said, "To tell you the truth
I thought your solo was the better of the two"

Well, then I woke up and I was lying in my bed
I ran upstairs and kissed my little boy on his sleeping head
I took this dream as a sign from God, so I thought I'd better pray
I said, "Don't ever speak to me directly and thanks anyway"
Now so much has changed about me
Besides me just giving up red meat
Some get spiritual, 'cause they see the light
And some, 'cause they feel the heat

These.  "Trump voter" is a solid proxy for the characteristics of being a shitty person, being cruel, being stupid, having no integrity, etc.

It's kind of like how GOLL and I have talked about putting on our jury questionnaires "do you believe 9/11 was an inside job?"  Anyone who answers "yes," boot 'em, they have no critical thinking skills.

And yeah, when my wife and I were dating, she was a pretty progressive dem, and I was a moderate republican.  We disagreed on some policy points, and would have significant arguments about them.  Which was hot, because we were discussing ideas with someone intelligent.  Now, it's not about policy (sure, there are some "policies" embedded in there, but that's not what it's about) -- it's about basic decency and character.

I let these idiots riff for a bit then tell them "Want to fix the immigration issue?  Fine every employer who hires someone without proper paperwork.  $10k for the 1st one, 25k for the next and increase it by 25k for every one after that."   That usually shuts them down and then I tell them "Good luck getting construction projects started let alone completed.  I hope you don't mind not having the variety of fresh produce we get and (relatively) cheap meat.  Oh, and are you going to start roofing or cleaning toilets at work when your day ends?"

Like, Biden/Harris pulled us out of NATO? They implemented a bunch of Project 2025 stuff? Biden declared himself a dictator? Passed a nationwide abortion ban? etc. etc.

And of course the dude that runs twitter responds "Absolutely". It's like we're speaking a different language.

  • It applies only to individuals with at least $100 million in wealth who do not pay at least a 25% tax rate on their income (inclusive of unrealized capital gains). Payments can be spread out over subsequent years.
  • Within that $100 million club, you'd only pay taxes on unrealized capital gains if at least 80% of your wealth is in tradeable assets (i.e., not shares of private startups or real estate). One caveat for this illiquid group is that there would be a deferred tax of up to 10% on unrealized capital gains upon exit.
