Just started Wicked with my in laws and MIL says she heard it was very “woke”.  I asked her what woke meant. She said “it means being very accepting of other people”. The horror. We can’t have that.

Wow. Bless her heart.

Did she...say that like it's a bad thing?

Bet if asked, she would say that we should accept some people but others take it too far. And that it would be better if they just kept it a secret. Then everyone’s happy.

Why the fuck are so many of these Gen Z kids Jesus freaks?  Is it just college qbs or is “Christianity” somehow making a comeback with the youngs?

It's weird AF.  Every NCAA football player damn near gives a fucking sermon in their post-game interviews.  It's going to drive me away from sports.

JFC, what a bunch of wackos.

Sometime during the pregame warmup, there was a prayer over the stadium speakers. Seemed to be a Christian prayer. The crowd was standing for it. I guess I don’t get to the stadium early enough, because that was the first time I had heard a prayer in that context.

Contrary to the Quaker religion, who pray in private. As instructed by the teacher.

It must be exhausting for Boomers to keep up with everything they are allowed to watch or buy. Maybe there's a spreadsheet to track it.

Yeah that’s the play. “Yeah don’t want that- sounds suspiciously like the teachings of Jesus.”

then enjoy her crazy attempt to rationalize it, probably with the declarative “you know what I mean!” at the end.

No, Brenda, I think I want you to explain what you mean. Please, go ahead, tell all of us why acceptance of others is bad. Be sure to reference specific teachings of Jesus in your answer. What's that? You're just a racist piece of shit? Got it.

It's not just race.  We have sexuality, gender, class, all KINDS of choices at the Bigotry Buffet (tm).

I joked to my wife that it was super woke after we watched it.  Amazing film.

But very woke.

Accepting people's differences

Accepting people that are born different.

Accepting that hard work and effort are better than being born wealthy and vapid

Accepting that animal cruelty is wrong.

Being a good friend.

Being kind.

The horror.

Oh. SUPER Christian. Prays for us all the time.

Any occasion to offer to say grace before a meal and drop something like “lord we thank you for the gift of this meal and the gift of being together.  We ask for continued health, we ask for peace where there is war, for food and water where there is starvation, but most of all, lord, we ask that people come to their senses and stop being so accepting of others. In Jesus’ name we pray.”

You never heard a prayer at a HS game.  They would go on forever, with hundreds of kids in the stands yelling Amen! At the top of their lungs?

Some of these culty churches/pastors target college campuses, kinda like joining a frat or sorority, but worse.  I know because I have a relative that is in one sadly.  They claim to be nondenominational but are still like, “only our flock gets to go to heaven” ‘one true church’ doctrine.  It’s gross.

You realize non-denominational churches are far worse about that than "denominational" churches.

The og Wizard of OZ certainly isn't though. Blind faith in phoney executive leader that is self- serving and impotent, but vilifies people that look different and thus keeps the masses endeared to himself by stoking fear and hate of others.

That's American as Apple Pie.  (are we the only country that eats apple pie?)

Found that odd as well. Very high schoolish and I can’t recall ever seeing that at a college game. I already find it odd that we sing the national anthem at games but not in other aspects of our lives. But whatever. I stand for all of these things mainly because it triggers others when they see someone sitting down.

Wouldn’t Dorothy be an illegal immigrant to Oz?

The prayer was prefaced with a “let’s have a moment of silence for the victims of the SoCal fires and the terror attack in NOLA”. We were chumped into standing for a prayer.

I’ve come to singing “ the wheels on the bus go round and round” in my head when chumped into a prayer. Seems to have the same effect as the prayer.

I found it very odd and it pissed me off in a variety of ways.

Forcing an entire stadium to pray.

The completely anti christ concept of making prayer a big spectacle.

Shits out of hand.

I think the anthem is odd as well but I always stand respectfully - my whole life. While people stood in line for beer or sat - up until a few years ago.

Yeah moment of silence is fine. Then they slid right into Christian prayer.

That's what bothered me.

And I'm a Christian.

Imagine the chaos if they let someone pray to allah.

There's a prayer before every OKC Thunder game.

i had the same reaction...i don't remember there ever being a stadium wide convocation or benediction or whatever it's called?? i guess the tragedy unfolding in LA provoked it. whatever...i too thought it was weird and very out of place 🤨
