Fairly regular scene Rockwall

Yeah in Rowlett's defense, that's the Rockwall Snuffer's. They often cause a small backup when crossing the Lake Ray Hubbard Bridges. One of the bigger backups that I can remember was a boat parade.

Further south of there is now rather new money wealthy, Heath, Tx. It's where I believe Trump's Secretary of Defense came from.

Lest we forget, "prairie n------" was/is a racial slur used for Native Americans.

And way too many people these days think of reservations as fucking mini-Las Vegases with casinos and all, when it fact they suck shit through a straw and look like something that's damn near 3rd world.

I'll second that.  Go the Little Big Horn and then Wounded Knee, and see which place gets the government bucks to promote what happened at each site.  Pretty fucking dismal.

Trump claimed on more than one occasion that his dad was born in Germany. He was born in the U.S.

In the Art of the Deal, he claimed his family was Swedish somewhere way back, because at that time, thanks to Hitler and all that, even to have a German grandfather would make it a little harder to swing deals with Jewish real estate tycoons. So he just made up a fictional Swedish background, turning a setback into an advantage. Though neutral, Swedes did better than most European countries in saving what Jews they could.

So there he went lying his ass off about his ethnicity in a way that had obvious tangible benefits to his bottom line, and then when Warren came out with that idiotic but extremely common Oklahoma BS about being part-Indian, he was relentless in mocking her. If the Dems had any balls they would have returned every Pocahontas with a Swedish Chef taunt of their own, but we all know that party has been castrated since LBJ left office.

Fuck. The ultra-rare self-quote double post. I meant to edit and clarify that in claiming that Swedish heritage, he was denying any German heritage at all, and not saying he was German of Swedish background or something. So in 15 years he went from claiming no German heritage to being fully half German as circumstances changed.

I’m not naming names because I don’t want to give them any exposure. But I’m being bombarded by tv ads from Republican candidates all claiming that they’re more pro-Trump, pro-gun, and pro-life than those other guys. It’s really pathetic what Trump has done to the GOP and how spineless they all are caving into copying his style and methodology.

And what exactly does it mean to be a “Trump conservative?” There’s nothing conservative about Trump. Those are just empty words. They’re meaningless. But hey, it worked for Trump so this is the way we do things now. Just toss out bullshit trigger words and phrases to appeal to the rubes and hope for the best.

The only way you can deprogram someone from a cult is first remove them from the cult. It is impossible to do because the cult isn’t centralized. It is a stream of disinformation from Fox News/OAN/Newsmax/InfoWars/Facebook/Twitter/YouTube

You have to stop the individual from reading all that insane bullshit. Then slowly, you can introduce the truth, appeal to morality, and humanity.

The guardrails of truth have been destroyed. I don’t see how this gets fixed to be honest. Unless there are consequences for media sharing lie after lie, then insanity will continue

"Your people?" That's not fascist at all now is it.....

Seriously, it is a real shame he isn't spending the truck time hauling with some good audio books. There are so many free ones nowadays. If one isn't into the classics, there are really good genre literature titles. He may not be into romance novels (NTTAWWT), but Westerns, Sci Fi, Clive Cussler or some other novels of intrigue. Heck, you said he was a sports guy, if he hasn't read Ball Four, then listening to that on audiobook might be right up his alley. Or nonfiction. There are so many things better for one's health. Talk radio is bad for the blood pressure.

He does have a well of outrage from which he is drawing. Maybe someone can siphon some of that off into a more productive focus.

I don't even think it'll be that high.

Trump begged them to do something!

These people did nothing when Biden was sworn in, even though Trump was telling them Biden didn't win, the election was rigged/illegal/etc.

Trump has continued to say the election was rigged, and they do nothing.

The vast, vast majority are fucking pussies.  They talk a big game on Facebook, but when push comes to shove these thousandaires aren't going to jeopardize whatever comfortable lifestyle they have built for themselves in their double-wides with 60" TVs and a lifted dually in the driveway that they'll be paying off for years to come.

Hell, they are watching their fellow "patriots" being arrested over 1/6, and none of them are lifting a fucking finger to help.

All of this. As long as Costco is open, and the WiFi still works, they aren't doing shit after watching the 1/6 idiots face real consequences.

That and they are lazy and none of these fuckers are at rock bottom.

Shit, look at the people being rounded up for 1/6.  Many of those folks were nowhere near rock bottom, and they decided to play the part of a terrorist, and they are paying a heavy price.  Their fellow MAGA types are watching that play out and thinking

Danny Devito No GIF

Trump has begged for them to do something, has told them constantly that he was robbed.

They love the idea of Trump being in office, but they aren't in love with the idea of risking everything they have.

True. But it only takes slightly fewer to shoot them dead. Or slightly higher to be on the safe side I guess.

Is it too soon for me to blame neoliberal economic theory for this mess? There is no exit from this model - we inflate or die thanks to 50 years of this madness. Austerity breeds right populism. Like deflation, it also breeds anger.

How would an Austrian economist put it?

Spoiler

I suppose those economists would employ the old: We must Starve the Beast called right populism.

This Beast is inefficient and terrible for profits.

The Beast has unfunded negative externalities that amount to a taking under law and economics theory.

There must be an accounting, as this Beast is a burden.

Cordially,

The Ghost of Mises in the Machine

Gateway Pundit is full of actual fake news. They post nothing but lies and should be removed from the internet as I'm sure some of the shit they post violates their terms of service with their ISP.

Jesus christ just shut the fuck up with this shit. It's nearly as bad as anti-vaxx shit.

This is like saying racism is over because Obama got elected, TWICE. It's like saying we don't need to worry about a violently radicalizing right because they had their chance when a black guy was being inaugurated and did nothing. Obviously if they did nothing then, they were certainly not going to do anything after that!

Stop acting like shit is going to go back to normal, just because you used to be a Republican and don't want to acknowledge how badly the entire party has radicalized.  Nobody gets to almost-ISIS and goes "oh shit, man, we took this a bit far huh? Let's dial it back guys!" They're going to keep getting worse, they'll have plenty of opportunities to hurt more people, and they have a very good chance of retaking total control of the federal government soon.

That assertion got me thinking about what that number actually is.

According to new Gallup Poll (linky: https://news.gallup.com/poll/15370/party-affiliation.aspx) only 24% of Americans identify as Republican today (compared to 44% I. no wonder the GOP is freaking out). Negating 0-17, there are approximately 210M adults in the US. That puts is at roughly 50M people identifying as republican. So if 5% show up to overthrow the government, we're fucked. That would be an army of 2.5M people descending on DC (or doing whatever dumb shit they are supposedly planning). I don't think you could get 2.5M to go somewhere if you offered them a free car and blowjob when they arrived. But it doesn't take that many. Let's say it was .1%. That's still 50k people. That may be more like what we saw on Jan 6th. And it damn near worked.

The time to take a stand was YEARS ago. Now, we have a fully-engaged fascist terrorist organization operating as a “political party,” intent on both taking and holding power by anti-democratic violent means.

Since I am not a crazy person I am out of the loop as to where the crazies want to attack.

Also for lawyers, if a good guy with a gun was at the Capitol and started firing on the crowd that was trying to kill police, politicians, and overthrow the government, would that be… legal?
