Michael Williams, the Republican Georgia state senator and former gubernatorial candidate, reported to jail on Wednesday following his indictment on insurance fraud charges.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Williams, who rose to prominence after he ran a "Deportation Bus Tour" to the state's "sanctuary cities," reported to Hall County jail Wednesday afternoon.

Williams was indicted on charges of making a false report of insurance fraud, making false statements and falsely reporting a crime last week.

Williams's lawyer A.J. Richman told the Journal-Constitution that he negotiated bond with the district attorney, adding that Williams would be "out soon."

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/lepage-includes-stolen-election-note-while-certifying-ranked-choice-race

Quote

Maine’s outgoing Gov. Paul LePage (R) expressed his resentment through the bitter end.

Still bristling over his state adopting a ranked-choice election system, LePage officially certified the final results in the controversial Second Congressional District race with a note that said “stolen election.”

Maine residents voted via ballot initiative in 2016 to move the state to a ranked-choice system, which lets voters rank all candidates in a race by preference. Maine voters reaffirmed the move in another initiative last June.

Republicans in the state fought the overhaul tooth and nail in a series of court battles. LePage called the system “the most horrific thing in the world” and threatened not to certify the results of any election conducted by rank choice.

Quote

After Democrat Jared Golden beat Rep. Bruce Poliquin (R) in the ranked choice election for the seat — the first ranked choice election for a congressional race in the country — Poliquin sued to get a federal judge to either declare the incumbent the winner or call a new election. After appealing a district court decision upholding the ranked choice system, Poliquin this week announced he was ending his legal fight.

But LePage was not ready to let go just yet. On Friday he tweeted a photo of the certificate signing off on the election while noting that the results are “no longer in federal court.”

“Ranked Choice Voting didn’t result in a true majority as promised-simply a plurality measured differently. It didn’t keep big money out of politics & didn’t result in a more civil election,” his tweet said, while the attached photo showed that next to his signature on the certificate he called the race a “stolen election.”

This guy......

Missouri voters in 2010 approved Proposition B, which capped breeding businesses at 50 dogs and required larger living spaces. Parson warned at the time that the law was "shutting down an entire industry in this state." He led the charge for legislation in 2011 that repealed the 50-dog limit and pared back some other requirements.

So he's pro puppy mill. Fuck that guy.

Just amazing how big of snowflakes the modern American conservative movement is. Attack the liberals for safe spaces, happy holidays, etc while they incessantly whine on Twitter when their side loses elections and intentionally rig the system in their favor.

The Missouri, Michigan, and Wisconsin governors need to be behind bars the rest of their lives.

And this right here is why there’s no hope for Romney or any of these guys spouting platitudes.

THIS is the guy that should be getting the press Romney and Flake get. He’s putting his money where his mouth is.

And the Trumpublicans will punish him for it.

Deplorable indeed.

Cults have three kinds of people -- psychopaths, true believers, and cowards. They work because two out of those three groups of people (the psychos and the believers) always end up in charge, and they are perfectly willing to inflict punishment on anyone who expresses doubt (the cowards). Fear always keeps the rank in file in line. This doesn't surprise me at all.

When the GOP is done for good, I would also not be surprised to find out that their staff and leadership operated exactly like a cult, and that most of the rank and file were either psychos trying to climb the ladder, batshit insane true believers, or absolutely terrified cowards who got conditioned to believe they couldn't get out.

Asians favor dems more than latinos.  Quite a few latinos identify racially as whites and are solid Republican voters.

Uh, data? Racial politics especially for Asians is very much split based on generation not race. I would argue that Latinos is more driven by education vs any other factor.

Asians have shifted away from the Republican party while Latino support for the GOP has been stable under Trump.  Compare the racial breakdowns of the 2016 (latino and asian voting spit relatively equal) and 2018 (asians leaning more towards the Dems compared to latinos), even though Trump has continually demonized latinos.

This isn't surprising given the fact that increased racial polarization between the parties further wedges light-skinned latinos from dark-skinned latinos.  So while it makes dark-skinned latinos lean more towards the Dem party it also makes light-skinned latinos lean more towards the GOP.

Quote

As Whites, especially Whites who are prejudiced against Blacks, move to the Republican Party, and as Blacks, especially groupconscious Blacks, solidify their relationship with the Democratic Party, this increasingly stark racial partisan divide has important consequences for Latino partisanship. That is, as news media promulgate the image of the GOP as the party of Whites, dark-skinned Latinos have become more Democratic, and light-skinned Latinos have become less so. Even within the racialized category “Latino,” partisans are increasingly “divided by color.”

"conservative"

That word isn't currently generally used as originally defined.

Are you criticizing my word choice here or what? What I'm complaining about goes beyond the Republican party and extends to those who don't identify with either party, but vote GOP the vast majority of the time.

Sure, so long as you also agree that being an anti-Enlightenment authoritarian equals being a conservative.

Is it your understanding that Burke was not a counter-Enlightenment thinker?  Was he not a conservative either?

imo, the reason the absurd idea that conservatism is not authoritarian in nature can only be found in America is because no one in Europe is benighted enough to fall for that claptrap.
