James Benjamin Gosnell, Jr., 69, of Charleston, has pleaded guilty to possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

In summer 2025, agents with Homeland Security Investigations received a CyberTip from PayPal that showed payments made from PayPal accounts belonging to James Benjamin Gosnell, Jr. to a known CSAM vendor. Based upon that information, Agents obtained a federal search warrant for Gosnell’s residence, which they executed on September 16, 2025.

During the execution of the search warrant, Gosnell confessed to possessing CSAM, and gave agents a flash drive that he admitted contained hundreds of CSAM videos. Agents seized more than a dozen additional electronic devices and flash drives. Forensic analysis confirmed that Gosnell possessed thousands of CSAM files. 

Further investigation revealed that in December 2023, Gosnell began communicating with a man in Florida named John Thorpe via text message and encrypted apps. Gosnell and Thorpe discussed their shared sexual preference for minors, primarily the violent sexual abuse of infants and toddlers. In the summer of 2024, Gosnell traveled to Thorpe’s home in Florida, where Gosnell distributed and shared a flash drive containing CSAM. Gosnell left the thumb drive of CSAM with Thorpe, who later sent it back to Gosnell in Charleston via FedEx.

🚨Jesse Hockenbury, 32 — Highland Heights, Kentucky city councilmember and former Campbell County Republican Party Treasurer — is now a convicted s*x offender. Colleagues are demanding he resign.

He hasn’t.

Hockenbury, a practicing attorney, was arrested in February after a woman he was representing reported unwanted sexual contact and inappropriate comments. On July 28, he entered an Alford plea to third-degree sexual abuse — meaning he accepted a guilty conviction while not admitting to the conduct itself.

His sentence: 90 days in jail, fully suspended for two years, plus a no-contact order keeping him 500 feet from the victim, her home, and her workplace, and $165 in court costs.

At Tuesday’s council meeting, members huddled in closed session to discuss removing him. Afterward, councilmember Rene Heinrich didn’t hold back: “I just don’t think that it’s something we can let slide under the carpet.” Fellow councilmember Gary Chinn agreed, saying a person like this shouldn’t represent the city.

Under Kentucky law, council can’t force him out — only a formal misconduct hearing can. For now, Hockenbury’s staying put, unresponsive to press, and apparently unbothered by being a convicted GOP official refusing to give up his seat.

Wisconsin still lets 16- and 17-year-olds wed with only a parent’s signature. Nearly 300 minors have been married there in the past decade, most to adults.

Republicans call it “parental rights.” Critics call it enabling exploitation. The same party that lectures endlessly about protecting children somehow can’t find the will to close a loophole that turns statutory rape into a wedding.

This is not neutral governance. It is the consistent pattern of a right-wing machine that prioritizes control over kids’ futures. Sixteen other states have banned the practice. Wisconsin’s GOP refuses.

The children of Wisconsin remain unprotected. The pattern continues.
