Last Breath.

Between this movie and Salesforce commercials, is Woody Harrelson okay financially? Is he in his Nic Cage / Bruce Willis era?

I thought that movie sucked and completely missed the point of its own plot. I only watched once so maybe I need a rewatch but I remember feeling like the movie made a hero out of a terrible man and, despite the story of the movie, managed to marginalize its female lead.

Anyways, watched the conversation and rear window the last couple days. Both nearly flawless movies.

I think the point of the movie was to show the perspective of each of the three involved.  The husband, the accused rapist, and the wife/alleged victim.  It was based on an actual historical event and from my understanding the perspectives shown were based on the testimony of each and how it lead to the last trial by combat recorded in history because of the he said/he said/she said thing.

I get that was their goal but to me the movie marginalized the most important voice in their story.

I am on flight home and put on

“Unrivaled: Sewanee 1899”

about the Sewanee team that went 12-0 and played five games in six days.

Good plane watch

Watched Strange Darling on a flight. Good bloody fun. Great acting by Willa Fitzgerald of Reacher fame. Kinda Shyamalan meets Tarantino. Don’t let anyone tell you anything about it just see it.

Watched Heretic on a flight. Good fun for Hugh Grant alone. Nice short watch, not too gory or scary if you have fraidy cats in your circles.

Heretic was a good watch. As you said, it has the horror vibe without the gore. Hugh Grant was great and I also thought Chloe East did well too.

I didn't recognize Topher Grace until the credits rolled. It's been awhile since I have seen him in anything.

The last thing I recall seeing him in was an episode of that animated Netflix series Love Death & Robots.

I didn’t realize that was him until this post lol…saw that in the theater for matinee price - it was entertaining…

Depravity is terrible. Watched it on a flight. It does have a couple of hotties, including a scantily clad Victoria Justice, but it’s a bad murder thriller.

I just watched this last night.  Really liked it.  I was kinda hoping it would end differently, but that's OK.  Was really good.

Speaking of Hugh Grant, despite being an adult in his heyday and vibrantly remembering his being busted with a prosty and going on late night talk show to apologize to America (because we didn’t have screen shots or apologies written on a note app to share on Instagram in 1997), I realize I have never seen a movie he’s in.

Notting Hill (1999) with Julia Roberts changed that for me.

I actually really enjoyed it. I am guessing that will buy me a fair amount of ridicule here, but maybe I’m just a sap.

Also, the hand Otto Hightower as the Welsh deadbeat is one of those “wow, that’s the same guy” moments for me.

We need a separate thread for movies we started on tv and will circle back to.  until then, Meet Jon Doe, 1941 Gary Cooper, Barbara Stanwyck, dir Frank Capra.  Need to budget two+ hours.  Very bright and light hearted for the pseudo-dark premise.  Neat how bright and cheery Hollywood was back then, and Barb was once young.

Becoming Led Zeppelin.

Bad ass.

Obviously 'Authorized' means shining a good light on their historical narrative, but pretty informative and attention holding. I did get chills watching basically their first live broadcast in Scandinavia. Only had been rehearsing for a month. So badass.

'Last Breath' was decent. I think they tried to encapsulate the length of time Diver 2 was cutoff and dying at depth by packing in most of the movie into a similar time frame. Not really necessary and comes off a little dry. No allusions to visualizing death nor much hallucinations on potential loved ones left behind. Was unaware of the documentary. I would like to check it out.

In a similar genre, watch him in Four Weddings and a Funeral and The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill And Came Down A Mountain if you haven't already. Both flicks have solid casting and some very funny scenes as well as some poignant ones.

Waterworld with Kevin Costner.

I just remember this movie getting a ton of ridicule and it being the worst/most expensive bomb in history at that time.

It wasn't as horrible or shlocky as I had remembered and I enjoyed some of it. A solid "meh", 5/10 on entertainment.

We watched this based on your recommendation. Didn’t think it was either great or horrible. Pretty good movie.

Spoiler

The heroine(?) was unexpected by me.

Just saw Black Bag. I enjoyed but I wish there was a bit more meat on the bone but it was obviously a limited budget. It’s a quick 90 minute watch. My only real complaint is the cinematographer really lived over exposing light sources. Holy shit this movie was murky and blinding at the same time.

The Monuments Men (2014).

I really had high expectations-- directed by Clooney and all-star cast including my favorite John Goodman. Very bland and meh for a cool premise and some fantastic potential. I think I enjoyed Waterworld more.

Thief on the Criterion Channel. Honestly shocked I never saw it before since it's both a Michael Mann film and a James Caan film. Loved it. No one can make gritty streets look awesome like Michael Mann.

Love the score in this movie.

Black Bag. Man this was really enjoyable and it clocked in at 93 minutes. It flowed great and Fassbender and Blanchett had some really good chemistry. I wouldn’t mind seeing them do more movies and have a few of these.

Just returned home from this excellent film.  They could've gone on for 3 hours and never missed a beat.  I second the idea of this being continued with a follow up.

Black Bag. tight, smart, fast little story. had a definite Oceans 11 feel. Pierce Brosnan was excellent the short time he was onscreen. Cate is just stunning, getting better looking with age. she's my favorite actress! enjoyable watch.

Been on a Bong Joon-Ho kick lately and this is now one of my favorites of his films. Funny, dark, and twisty. The actress who plays the mother is famous in Korean film for playing the archetypical mother, which is relevant for reasons you'll see.

Found it on Apple Store. I own multiple versions of it but hadn’t seen a 4k digital version yet.

Watched the brutalist last night. Pretty great stuff although not perfect. Definitely a movie worth seeing with great a/v.

Both of these are good, and so is About a Boy.  I love Hugh Grant, Notting Hill is easily my guilty pleasure.

Black Bag was excellent. Familiar premise but still unpredictable and compelling from beginning to end; only 90 minutes btw.

For me, Fassbender and Blanchett are as close to “must watch” performers as there are right now.

Rest of the cast was great too.

And I think I’m in love with Marisa Abela (any fans of Industry on HBO will understand).
