The movie you just watched

The Firm (tom cruise) popped up on netflix.  decent movie, even if the plot got a bit too campy.  The soundtrack though, what the fuck was Sydney Pollack thinking?  It was just this bizarre light-jazz music that played throughout the film..... but apparently got an academy nomination

spacer.pngWatched Cowboys and Aliens last night.

Surprisingly entertaining with a great cast.

Surprising entertaining is the perfect description. I was predisposed to hating it from the title and premise. But, I'll be damned, it was enjoyable.

kingdom of heaven , directors cut, with legolas, jeremy irons, and eva green (who unfortunately didnt bare any titties).

great movie though.  epic battle scenes

Yes!  I'll watch Kingdom of Heaven anytime the opportunity comes.  The tragic, leprous, noble king with the silver mask, Eva Green's eyes, zoomed in images of a zillion warriors, villains of all stripes getting comeuppance, all with Ridley Scott at the helm methodically peeling the onion without rushing the pace.  Gotta love it.

So fucking stupid. Just terrible Hollywood cheese all around.

darkest hour (2017) - the churchill flick.  masterful acting and movie making.  gravitas, tense, humorous... brilliant all around

The scene where he's sitting on the underground with all the common folk is some powerful shit.

Tombstone.

Talk about a movie that doesn't hold up for shit.  Music is terrible. Editing is terrible. Dubious directing decisions throughout. Outside of Kilmer, it's pretty bad.

I can't believe the gun nazis haven't derided this movie for Doc's 3-shot double barrel shotgun and his pair of 14 shot revolvers.

Wut? Terrible take.

Watched the remake of The Body Snatchers (1978). Not near as good as the original and man the dialogue was terrible.

Had some good moments however.....especially the ending.

I'd say it was near as good. It was pretty good for a remake. There was good suspense. The effects were better. They gave a cameo to the star of the 50's version. Amazing Grace on bagpipes was great. Karen Black (nuff said). Also, I think that was probably my introduction to Jeff Goldblum.

And yeah, the ending was kind of a big deal. You can't just gloss over that.

Pork Chop Hill (1959)

I thought it pretty poor - Peck's so so, but Rip Torn's in it.

I disagree. Peck was dynamic with little to work with. Look at other Korean War flicks of the era, they were pretty hokey. While far from his best performance, he still delivered. Milestone was shooting for All Quiet on the Western Front and A Walk in the Sun again.

There is a reason they call Korean War movies "The Forgotten War Movies".

I'm a big fan of this, though...

Had a touch of the insomnia last night, so I watched the Bad News Bears on IMBD.

Many years since I have seen it.

Some highlights:

smoking and booze in the dugout

telling kids to shut up

coach slapping his pitcher son on the mound, and nobody does anything

drinking and driving

racist slurs from a little kid (because its funny)

giving little kids beer after the game

coach walking out on the field during a game with a beer in his hand

entire team piled into a convertible driving down the highway

I love that movie.

From time to time, I watch videos on Youtube from a poster called "Minty Comedic Arts"...

There's always some interesting takes from many various films/ insight on behind scene...

I love this type of stuff.  I watched something similar and found out how Henry Thomas got the role of Elliot in ET.  Look it up if you don't know.

I'm trying to get through the new Tom Hardy movie Capone.  I was thinking Untouchables, but, thus far, the entire movie was after he was released in from prison in '41.  It's just him mumbling around a house and having hallucinations like in The Shining.  And I hate subtitles, so I can't figure out half of what was being said.

An excellent example. That got a B movie treatment when it was A all the way. Undercast, underwritten, underdirected.
