Bo French is tapping into a real fear of some whites parents have for their white kids, especially with sons who are failing in life. Those parents are just looking to put blame in the wrong direction. Often away from themselves.

I know of a few examples where parents are genuinely upset how poorly their sons are moving into adult life. They were given good schools, got everything they wanted and they still struggle to keep hourly jobs much less stay in college. I’ve heard more than a couple racist comments blaming others for their sons’ failures.

Im sure there are some white people talking that while they disagree with French being publicly racist they don’t disagree with him.

Then the parents are too stupid and shitty to realize their sons' lives are not going to be improved by voting for a racist shithead for the office of...checks notes...Texas Railroad Commissioner.

These people are the fringe of what used to be considered the fringe.

But, it would not be the first time that people who vote solely out of self-interest do so for an irrational purpose.

Its really depressing to think that this piece of shit is still probably gonna win statewide office in Texas after repeatedly showing himself for the bigot xenophobe racist that he is. All because he got that little "R" next to his name and so many rural Texans are brainwashed into pulling that lever no matter what.

I don’t have any doubt that reverse affirmative action is coming. At least it will be kinda amusing to watch SCOTUS twist itself into knots on that one.

Cornyn calls out Bo French over racist social media post

French, the Republican nominee for a statewide position regulating Texas’ oil and gas industry, posted a photo of University of Texas students, while decrying “foreigners” displacing Americans.

Because the checks stop clearing

#64
Far-right figure Tommy Robinson posted online a few days ago an interview with Texas Railroad Commission GOP candidate Bo French, where French told Robinson that Muslims are on a "civilizational jihad" & thus "we have to ban Islam." Robinson in turn lauded French for his "bravery."
Bo French - who has called to deport Native Americans, frequently uses the R-word, pals around with Jack Posobiec, recently asked his followers if Jews or Muslims pose a bigger threat to America, and gleefully called the day SNAP benefits lapsed "National Chimp out Day" - currently leads with 41%

As a person who is not particularly enamored with or attracted to "power," I guess I don't understand its appeal. In some sense maybe all the sense, power = money and vice versa.

I like money I guess, mostly the security it brings. But not so much that I am willing to compromise myself to get it.

So, is it power or money or is the difference immaterial?

Let me rebut that with something more positive-blatant racism by down ballot candidates helps keep low information minority voters energized.

Maybe (likely) you’ll still see someone like French win because so many Anglo voters aren’t paying attention to RR commission candidates, but the racism helps keep an estimated 1 million Asian voters (about half of which are of SE Asian descent) fired up and helps pull someone like Talarico through in a tight contest (or local contests in places like Fort Bend county, north Dallas, north Austin).

If you wanted to set up an antagonist, you’d actually prefer it somewhere like RR commission where the ability to harm is limited.

What's so weird about his comment also is that there is probably less than 20 brown people in that picture, and there are thousands of whites.

You would think as a staunch white supremacist you might want to focus on your people.

There's a special type of stupid when there's an implication that we need to protect white kids from the smarter brown kids.

This all brings up an interesting question. Do we need Affirmative Action, but for white people?

This is all clearly race baiting bullshit for idiots. I graduated UT in 2005 with tons of people of Asian heritage (Indian, Chinese, Philippine, etc), many of whom are still friends and a few that stood with me at my wedding. I also graduated from high school in Sugarland in 2000 and many of the kids in my classes who had better grades then me, looked like these kids. That was 26 years ago! This is not some recent change.

In my time, those groups, in general, weren't as into football, so there may have been a change there, which is great. I don't know how the student tickets work these days, but this cherry picked photo is probably from an Asian student group who camped out for hours, if not days, to get prime seats. Good on them for giving a shit and making the game day experience better for everyone. Maybe next time the white kids will get their ass up earlier.

I remember knowing Asians in college. They wouldn't go out all night on a Tuesday to drink and then drop out of community college with $15k in student loan debt with nothing to show for it. They were, like, actually studying and shit. Pretty sure they graduated and got jobs and everything like a buncha fucking weirdos.

There are plenty of people with seemingly flawless resumes who are unemployable for reasons that don't reveal themselves until the interview. Assuming that student exists, I'd just love to see those admissions applications. And yes, if you're applying from out of state, the odds will be stacked very much against you, and the admissions committees are very familiar with the latest rampant grade inflation tactics.

My son and his best friend went with us to the Ohio State game. His best friend is #2 in his class at Westlake, which is to say he's Indian-American. And damned if he didn't go to that game in his burnt orange shirt and shout his damned-fool face off.

He's applying to Harvard, Stanford, and Texas. Texas is his "fall back" because he's automatically admitted. But even though, he's seriously considering it. For those who are bemoaning the downfall of The University of Texas, you ought to take some heart in the fact that it's still being very strongly considered by such students.

Oh, and here's where I not-so-humble-brag on SonOfLL--he talked to his buddy about this controversy yesterday and expressed a bit of bewilderment because, in my son's estimation, Westlake is 65% Asian-American. His friend just laughs and tells him it's actually about 85% white. SonOfLL and he look it up, and SonOfLL can't figure it out. His friend finally tells him "yeah, dumbass--you just take too many AP courses, so all you ever see are the Asians."

. . . all of which is to say that maybe dumb white people need to stop having dumb kids.

Biased sample fallacy plays a huge role in everyday life and how people see the world. As an example, my two younger kids grew up thinking they were of average or below average intelligence because of the area they grew up in, the kids who were in their classes with them, and the family they grew up in. My oldest (side note: holy shit we're all old, Hucklebaby is about to turn 26) is possibly the naturally smartest person I've ever met and my two younger kids grew up with that as the benchmark along with the aforementioned environmental factors.

Then eventually the younger two started driving, dealing with the general public, and now the youngest is off in college. They didn't believe me until they got out in the real world that they are much, much, smarter than the average person. They just weren't much, much smarter than the average person in their bubble so it gave them a faulty view of their own abilities. Sounds like exactly what your son is dealing with, tell him good luck dealing with the average person out there.
