Up to 12 now.

Based on the latest reports it sounds like that number is going to go up. They are just now getting into some of the hard hit areas and are finding more.

Got a bad feeling there's a lot of dead in Panama City. Storm kind of sneeked up on them.

The Mexico Beach numbers probably go up quite a bit based on the numbers they are saying are unaccounted for right now as well. I think they said the other day there were several hundred that did not evacuate just in that small community.

This storm didn't sneak up on anyone in the US.  They could have been on the other side of the planet when this storm hit if they wanted.  People make stupid mistakes all the time and it costs them. Perhaps some of those folks couldn't evacuate due to financial circumstance or physical limitation but that's a different thing than being caught unaware.

Also I thought Panama City proper didn't catch the nasty side of the storm like Mexico Beach & Apalachicola

This storm was supposed to make landfall closer to St George Island up until the track started shifting Westward on Tuesday. I was watching every update from Tallahassee.

I am thinking Mexico Beach was mostly evacuated as its a place which is probably 90%+ second (beach) homes. Panama City on the other hand is a population center.

May be riding down to Mexico Beach tomorrow and try to salvage my buddy's stuff from his condo. Will try to take pictures if we make the trip.

Generac GP6500E still purring like a kitten here. City power starting to come back on in nearby areas. My cooperative says their substations should be powered up by the end of today. Got the Stihl running with a new spark plug and some starter fluid. Four wheeler may be fubar.

FWIW, some of the weather forums were saying at the time that the west side of the eye was unusually strong.  PC may have also gotten more time in the eyewall based on the path.

Tyndall is basically in line with the Eastern edge of Panama City with a lot of PC housing just on the other side of the bay. I don’t know that PCB was hit as hard but it is mostly condos and vacation homes.

Looks like there trip to Mexico Beach is on for tomorrow. Only thing that could kill it is LE saying no access. Will take some first hand pictures.

Reports from Jackson County and western Gadsden County areas grim. All church steeples down. Miles and miles of timber chopped at 20'. No gas or dollar stores open anywhere. Small town store fronts blown out to main street.

Two houses in the parking lot. Owner of the blue one came and talked to us. Super nice guy feel badly for him. Blue house woke up Wednesday about four blocks away from this parking lot. No clue about yellow house or who owns it 809ae8126ab45d31772a3ea792b24cce.jpgf5630adfffc37e45f2b6b767a5344039.jpg

Everything was covered in this horrible mud. Note boats behind the parking lot at the boat basin in the background. Huge vessel was submerged in the basin right in front of both ramps. 0aa445e5f562b935c46c317095099454.jpg

Took a dock walk. This is a pontoon boat flipped over. 30'Pro Line behind it. Hard to see the distance but these two anchors are hanging about 12' above the ground 62fc84846614a1f94aa961946fcfed95.jpgd5ad7b41ffc28a9021d65324132b6bbb.jpg32d3803dbb00fb257e3d3e27ce084605.jpg

This is on the canal. My buddy is 6-5. He's on a dock 5' off the level of the canal. Those are dock boxes behind him. There's water in those light bulbs. Storm surge had to be huge. 4eabf3d4e7789a1f2dc6d27a9b6b003b.jpg

Hurricane Willa.

So, does anyone know a chick named Willa??

Where does the World Meteorological Organization come up with these stupid names?

Mike Modano used to.  It seems as if Willa is ready to do some damage.

Willa gettin' bitchy.  This thing is going to spank the coast north of PV.  We spent a great week at Playa Las Tortugas which looks to be in her path.  And Vicente is on her heels.

My house is being torn down today. Thanks Harvey.

Today was our demolition day.  It was shockingly quick.  No more than an hour to reduce a 2300 square foot house to a pile of rubble.
