I will be employing any and all tactics to flip my parents. Shame, guilt, humiliation, threats of time with the grandkids. It's all on the table, assuming there is a legitimate election.

I would do this to my in-laws, but I have no threats of grandchildren. That is actually one of the reasons they have gravitated towards rhe maga brother. He has kids and they are terrified of losing them.

This is so awesome. I'm sure some of y'all still keep up with Troph, as do I. She and her wife are still at it out there, taking names and kicking asses at the local level. So, we should all be proud

I worked with the League of Women Voters today to register 41 high schoolers in Travis County who are pissed off at ICE. LFG!

Then maybe they should quit voting R unless they like the thought of their grandkids dying in a school shooting, camp flood, winter storm, measles outbreak, etc. All things that Texas should be working harder to prevent or mitigate, but the party in control only cares about corporate profits and wacky religious agendas. Zero accountability or willingness to change from disasters.

Isn’t it pretty to think so.

Reading about the political hell we’re in is eased when a little bit of meatloaf sandwich talk is mixed in with it. It’s sort of like a network crossover episode with two shows titled Downfall of American Politics and Steel Shank’s Thursday Night Mid Evening Snack.

Maga brother needs a shovel to the face ASAP.

And after that, I tell you I want to shovel into my face is some leftover brisket I smoked, leftover beans and rice from the Mexican take out two days ago, some hashbrowns and an over easy egg in a tortilla with some hot sauce and an Allsup’s burrito on the side washed down with a stone cold Bud Light.

I'll take things further and say I never even contemplated a meatloaf sandwich of any kind, with or without ketchup, cold or hot.

Cold meatloaf with ketchup sounds fucking gross.

But there used to be a place on Lake Austin Blvd (I think) that served hot meatloaf sandwiches, and those were the tits. Probably closed 20 years ago, unfortunately.

Cold meat loaf and ketchup in a sandwich is fantastic actually.

Upfront, I want Talarico or Crockett to represent us before Cornyn or Paxton but you also have to be a realist since this is Texas. Is it better to have an empty suit like Cornyn in office who is embarrassing to us but is interchangeable with 90% of republican. Or have Paxton win so we can get to bottom that much faster and hopefully on the road to recovery?

I live in Round Rock and hope to help campaign for Talarico, should he win the primary. This is assuming elections are still a thing by November.

Any advice about the best way to help for someone who can give time during the week, but is less flexible with weekends or money?

I'd say contact the Williamson County Democratic Party directly to let them know what you can do and see if they can put you to work.

And then, if/when he wins the primary, you get in contact with his campaign and offer to volunteer.

24 Diner on Lamar still serves a meatloaf sandwich. It was good when I had it 4 plus years back.

I could think of a few positives of Cornyn losing the primary to Paxton:

-Trump may die before November and all of his true-believer acolytes like Paxton are less powerful when he's dead;

-Paxton is more beatable in the general election. He's a mistress fucker who is forcing religion on us while his wife is divorcing him for "biblical reasons." There is plenty of shit to stir with the R voters who are only marginally paying attention. Plus, if Trump doesn't die before then, things in USA (economically and politically) will be much worse by November (100% guaranteed) and that will drag down R votes and enthusiasm; and

-This may be hopium, but maybe a Cornyn who is not worried about re-election grows some semblance of a spine like Tom Tillis and we have more members of the Senate to fuck up Trump's continuous escalations. Same might be true like some of the other pieces of shit like Bill Cassisdy.

This always cracks me up. Sharia is a moral code derived from the Quran. It’s not a law you can ban…

Aspects of the moral code include being faithful to your wife, not gambling, not drinking, not doing drugs, giving charity, not taking out loans with interest, praying to their higher being/God/Allah, keeping yourself clean/hygienic, and the list goes on.

Yes… please focus on banning “Sharia law” because that is what is going to help your constituents in their everyday life. Let’s not focus healthcare, let’s not focus on affordable housing, let’s not focus on clean energy, clean foods, etc. I’m convinced 99% of maga has never met a Muslim or spent time with them within their communities. In their heads, they are all sleeper agents of ISIS, the extremist militia formed and funded by the US and Israel, that went on to kill more Muslims than I can count. This is the consequence of decades of propaganda fed to us.

I'm curious what he said.

It wasn't too bad or surprising - not compared to sausage factories, etc.

He just said all the crushed tomatoes that feel off the truck or ended up in crevices of machinery or floors were scooped up with shovels, put in old buckets and used to make ketchup. I don't think he was a catsup fan - he just led with "never eat catsup".

Not sure why ketchup makes me gag. I do think it may have been from working in the school cafeteria back in parocial days. The leftover smeared ketchup on plates and napkins and silverware just grossed me out more than any other foodstuff.

I'll eat the spicy Whataburger stuff on french fries, but that's about it. And I really carefully open up those packets so that none of it gets on my hands or anywhere else.

Laughable, short of full blown maga led total econ collapse the R is winning this race by at least 5 pts. And even then it’s a coin flip bc it will certainly be the commie dem fault

Literally just days ago “he’s done making senate endorsements”…. Then in the last few hours drops the ban hammer on Cassidy

https://www.politico.com/news/2026/01/14/trump-endorsements-senate-races-republicans-00724042

Trump encourages Rep. Julia Letlow to primary Sen. Bill Cassidy

On the one hand, he hates Cassidy and he may have seen internal polling numbers showing she would beat Cassidy.

On the other hand, if things go south for Trump before January, he's going to need Cassidy, so it's risky.

Plus, as with Cornyn and others, an endorsement may cost them votes - I doubt a Trump handler told him that directly, but they would know that in some races, Trump is a negative.

If it's Talarico vs Paxton, Talarico can't go all when-they-go-low, we-go-high. Maybe he won't personally attack Paxton's moral failings, but someone needs to. If only to shove it in the face of the "Christians" who talk a big game about values but their actions, especially voting, always show the opposite.

I think we're getting close to the point where we can put a fork in this thread, it's done.

Guys, the Republic -- in its current form as a functioning recognizable nation state -- ain't gonna make it out of 2026. The likelihood of us not even bothering to have elections on a national scale is shooting up with every passing minute.

Either Trump dies ASAP, or the Republic dies this year. Those are the options.

Yep. And red states will obey his edict to suspend elections, because there's no act of assault on the Constitutional order that cucks like Greg Abbott won't bend over and spread their cheeks for. And blue states won't have full/free/fair elections because he'll send in his paramilitary goons to shut them down, seize voting machines, etc.

The chances of ending this shit peacefully are long past. Y'all are going to realize it sooner or later. This is headed for a fucking shitload of violence and blood.

TIL eliminating fraud means planning to commit fraud. DOGE shares SS info, illegally obtained through the aegis of a felon executive, with a group that seeks to overturn election results.

“Two members of Elon Musk’s DOGE team working at the Social Security Administration were secretly in touch with an advocacy group seeking to “overturn election results in certain states,” and one signed an agreement that may have involved using Social Security data to match state voter rolls, the Justice Department revealed in newly disclosed court papers.”
