K state wizard RPO

If you are interested in how k state is so unique in what they do this is an interesting article. It’s older data but it’s the same objectives and coach. It’s pretty cool in its simplicity and thought some of you may enjoy checking it out. Has explanations and video of their Qb rpo schemes.

Pretty cool brand of football.

Shtick aside, the damn wizard coaches up 2* and 3* every fucking year.  At least this year we get him early.

We have a secondary, receivers, and stable of backs to beat the damn wizard.

It's up to thermensa.   Maryland x2 and Tech last year leaves plenty of doubt.

The natural order of things is to crush roach 3 out of 4.

The natural order of things is to crush a down helmet opponent at home.

But for the past 20 years, the natural order of things has not included wins over the Purple Wizard.

Doesn't KState have a new OC this Season??

Last year's OC went to UTEP I think??

Surprised that TCU didn't try more. They ran it once with Reagor I think, and Gary Johnson sniffed it out easily.

Yeah that's not gonna be a year long issue. Maryland basically ruined it for future UT opponents in that the Jet Sweep won't be nearly as effective. That was just one of those Week 1 things that an underdog opponent got away with.

If only we'd have known that Matt Canada was going to run the jet sweep at us, we could've prepared for it and stopped it when Maryland ran it.  Oh well.

Interesting...no idea how they get away with ineligible receivers downfield on those RPOs

With the old north/south alignment, KSU managed to miss a number of our truly great teams over the years.....

THat's what keeps the illusion of the streak intact, if KSU faced UT an a few of the off years, the Wizard gets his purple caped stuffed in his ass...

This play from last year's game illustrates the difference in Snyder's understanding of the game versus our offensive coaches' understanding. 3rd and long from their 1 yard line. Our coaches basically give up in this situation because a feeling that a pass play is way too risky right there and we run the ball for a couple of yards. Snyder does exactly what you should do.  Throw deep to the sideline man on man and try and get the pass interference. Really not risky at all, but high reward when it works. And it seems to work against us a lot. The receiver can catch the ball for a first down. He can draw the pass interference for 15 yards and a first down. He can break up the INT by mauling the DB if he needs to. No defense would ever accept the penalty when they would have a 4th and long by declining it. So K-State ends up going ahead and scoring a TD on this drive. We would have run the ball for two yards, punted, and gave the opponent the ball at our 40 if we are lucky.

Orlando probably made a mistake with Roach at LB.

Plus Wheeler was out during 1st Half against Maryland and Gary Johnson missed most of 2nd Qtr and all of 2nd Half due to targeting penalty....

Quote:  "Gary Johnson was ejected on the second play of the second quarter of Saturday’s game at FedEx Field for a targeting penalty. "

On a positive note, Shark has played pretty well and Dele may see action soon, so hopefully HORNS Defense will defend Jet Sweep plays better going forward.....

Almost as good as a punt if its intercepted, punting that deep you also risk a jailhouse break and a block. All signs point to what you linked. Can not stand the run it for a few.more yards, given your punter some room bs.

That is a slow developing play. You would have to trust our oline to pass block for longer than they normally are capable tbh.

Are you denying that 2001, 2004, 2005, 2008, and 2009 were our best teams in that stretch?

yes, the OL has to block, the play action needs to work. also important is that you work on these specific situations with your players. the QB only has one place he is going with the ball. he doesn't have to go back and look for an open receiver. he is dropping back and throwing deep/semi-deep sideline. he has to be trained to throw the ball or if rushed throw it away. the receiver needs to be trained on how to draw the PI. he also needs to be trained on how to not let the defender catch it by mauling him, or if the pass was deep enough letting the receiver catch it and tackling him (good as a punt). It is all about coaches and players all understanding the specific situation and what they are supposed to do.

No, I won't debate that.

You add in all those years and we get to 500 against KSU if we concede that all of those are certain victories, which I don't believe that they would be.

Are you saying we sucked in all the other years?

Is 500 against a team good? Is that a number that makes us suddenly far better than them?

You seem to be arguing against things that nobody has said. It was argued that the old Big 12 scheduling pattern assisted Kansas State in improving their record against us in that it caused them to avoid all our best teams. You seem to agree with that.

Yet you have decided to come into the thread and argue with things that nobody has said. Poor soul, you are just too high strung.

Right, and as I stated, that would leave us below 500, which negates discussions of illusion on our historic ability to beat KSU consistently.

Again, maths is hard.

Math is really hard when the streak you keep posting leaves out 2005 & 2009, so there's that as well (to add to the figures)...

I would argue that Texas has far superior athletes & schemes ran by Orlando, than what WVU has at hand in the 35-6 win... UT should be looking at 4 straight wins...

Totally apples-to-oranges.  Our O is in no way comparable to WVU's, and their D isn't comparable to ours (although it's been better than expected so far this year).  Also, the game was played at WVU, which is much different than playing in Manhattan.

The way better game comparison is Miss. St. v. KSU.

It happens pretty fast so I don’t think they get downfield too far. But I rarely see it called. Maybe once I can remember. A big mantra refs are trained with is if the didn’t see the “whole play” don’t throw a flag. That applies to a lot things but in this instance I think this is how they get away with it so much.

there is a big debate in the coaching world about the ethics of the rpo or pop pass. Especially at the high school level is it okay to teach kids to get away with things even though you know you aren’t following the rules with ineligibles downfield?

interesting stuff.

p.s. It’s fun to have football talk on the football board!
