We saw all the tennis yesterday at Westwood. Townsend and Stearns matches were fantastic. Glad to see Stearns on T channel live right now.

Her inside out forehand ? It’s fucking incredible. Her forehand not the best but top tier. her overall game not at all. Her serve is her Achilles and her back hand is ok, and of course leaving the court open sometimes with her inside out can bite her in the ass. But she blows folks away with her aggressive angles on the inside out. Yeah it’s one of the best.

I don’t post on this thread much but the only sport we watch more than Texas sports in this house is tennis. Tennis channel is usually on most nights at our house.

“Texas - Fight” from the crowd twice last night was awesome. She wins blowing a forehand by Birrell who was standing right there to return it. Hoping for Townsend. My wife (a Taylor fan girl) talked to her mom last night it was a fun moment.

First game Peyton’s first serve is showing what a liability it is for her. Taylor attacking the second and taking Stearns out of her power baseline game. Lots of tennis to play but if she doesn’t get her first serve going she’s going to have a hard time winning, could even get run out by Taylor.

Nice body serve on game point, able to keep Taylor pinned back. still, Taylor took her to deuce in both of her first two service games. Seems like every service game is a dog fight for Peyton.

They resurface the courts before the tourney and several courts get redone completely after the tournament. If it stayed at Westwood you’d think they might change - there’s only two courts that get any TV time at all. Membership would throw a fit but it won’t matter, Sheffield bought Courtyard near the pennybacker off 360, ATX open will move there soon, maybe even next year (can’t remember if 2026 is the last contract year for WW or if it’s 2027). Shame bc WW is a fantastic venue for a small tournament.
