Or 80s kids are now in a position where they can get this stuff funded.

The toy industry gave up on G I Joe though, after that was botched (even though the cast for all three movies was fucking good). But Transformers did massive money, so they'll keep trying. At least this has old-school toys in the stores, unlike G I Joe and their bullshit 6-inch figures.

I'm going to see it with my kids. They will probably not like it.

I will probably only enjoy Idris Elba and Allison Brie and certain catch phrases.

But I will go.

I never watched the cartoon as a kid, so I know of He-Man mostly through memes and other appearances in popular culture. But I'll pop a gummy and give it a go.

Came here to post this. I was sent the link during my off period at school today.

I am a little on the younger end of the MOTU demographic, was born the second year the toys were out... so naturally my HS aged brothers were all about being kids again and playing with the toys with me. I love MOTU. It's the toy and TV franchise of my childhood. I was amped when 5 years ago Mattel brought MOTU back, made a new TV series that picked up where the 80s left off, and then even Netflix reimagined the show and was pretty good. My youngest son has watched all series - 80s, New Adventures, 200x, Revelation/Revolution, and Netflix. He didn't really dig the old Dolph Lundgren movie, so I am glad he gets a new version to experience. I just hope they spend more time in Eternia than the 80s movie did.

I just really, really hope this delivers.

Huge He-Man fan. I had damn near all the figures growing up. Boy this looks fucking terrible.

Lmao at giving He-Man pronouns. Retroactive woke.

I know, right, we didn't watch no fucking "He-Man" cartoons as kids, it was "Man" cartoons.

When did they add a fucking pronoun to his name?

Wasn't this already a Netflix series?

Some things should be left in our childhood. This is one of those things.

It already looks better than the Dolph Lungren He-Man.

Why did they do it? The G I Joe, He-Man, Strawberry Shortcake, etc. cartoons were all meant to sell a shitload of toys. And if you've noticed lately, there are quite a few He-Man toys in stores.

Watch the Toys That Made Us on Netflix about He-Man, G I Joe, Strawberry Shortcake, etc. It's eye-opening how much those toys were making (G I Joe was insane, even dwarfing Star Wars).

I haven't seen anybody buying those news toys, and I'm assuming based on the prices and the lack of cultural awareness amongst the yutes that it's middle-aged men buying them.

Why do you think so? I am cautiously optimistic after watching it.

They aren't just copy and pasting material from the Filmation cartoon and mini-comics like StarWars episode 7 was just the same story as 3 with new characters.

It gives a new story and background for He-Man, and other than a different looking Roboto and a less cartoonish Spikor, the characters all seem to look pretty close to the toys. And it's not a half-assed version like the Lundgren one that ran out of money and had to sneak onto the studio lot to film the final scenes, borrow props/costumes from other movies, and really look/feel nothing like the Masters of the Universe. Plus in that movie we never get to see much of Eternia because of budget cuts as well.

Just in this trailer we get glimpses of TrapJaw, Teela, the Sorceress not just as her person but also as Zoar, BeastMan, Skeletor, Fisto, Man-at-Arms, Ram-Man, Mekaneck, Evilynn, the Collector, Talon Fighter, possibly some of the three towers of Eternia, and not just Grayskull, but Snake Mountain at the end. Plus, we get what the 80s movies never showed us - not just Adam, but Adam transforming into He-Man and yelling "I have the Power!" which the quick image in the trailer of him transforming looked so much like Filmation. Just from what we see, they keep the origins of Marlena Glenn (if you notice it's also his last name on the deskplate) as being from Earth, and the new twist of sending Adam there as a kid to protect him. Then there's the sword he tries to take in the beginning of the trailer - the statue he's trying to pull it from was one of the original mockups for the He-Man character back in the day... oh and the employee of that store - behind her is the Big Jim toy box (which is the toy line that Cringer came from, looked like a normal tiger and they painted him green) just cool little eastereggs like that. And the power sword - as well as Skeletor's havoc staff - look way more like what they ought to compared to the 80s movie.

Yes. I am a MOTU nerd. I loved it as a kid, my current youngest son loves it - he plays with his new toys from the last few years which inspired me to begin restoring all my old toys who had rotten rubber bands in their joints or were slightly deteriorating. So yeah, I may be slightly biased, but it looks like it has a chance to me, it looks like lots of thought went into it for fans, and it seems like it's not going to be some half-assed project like the 80s live action movie.

This looks so stupid but I'll definitely go see it with my nerd friend who I go see terrible movies with. I was scarred by He-Man as a kid because I was under the impression that I had won the entire He-Man universe of toys in a Bubble Yum contest where you find the "You Won" wrapper and send it in. I think I was 7 or 8 at the time. I told all my friends at school that I had won and we could play at my house with all the toys when they arrived. My mom sent the wrapper in with our address per the instructions. I was expecting some mass shipment or we would have to go somewhere to pick it up. Instead, I received a large manilla envelope about 6 weeks later with my prize....a He-Man magazine. Not a subscription or anything. One magazine. I threw it in the trash and just laid in bed thinking about the wrong the universe had dealt me.

I'm feeling this as well. The cast seems decent - I was worried they'd cast some WWE wrestler/John Cena/Dwayne Johnson/Jason Momoa/etc. in the main role since it's got a big budget. They did this with G.I. Joe (although that cast was good) but fucked it up/bad timing/whatever.

Eternia looks interesting, and suffers from what a lot of futuristic cities in movies these days suffer from - it looks a bit like, Wakanda, but I'll give it a pass. Loved seeing the castle.

Looking at the writer/director, they were 80s kids, and the movie feels like they were huge fans.

I'm also digging the Easter eggs, there were some deep dives there, done by somebody who really cares for the IP.

Did you not see the very obvious “He/Him” under Adam Glenn’s name on his nameplate? I’m actually surprised they made it such a prominent shot. Can’t we just have a fun movie without forced virtue signaling?

Christ man, if jokes in the trailer for the Masters of the Universe movie are too subtle for you to understand, I just don't know what to tell you. Maybe you should spend a day with your coloring books and stay off of the internet for a while.

What I saw was a joke about him being "He-Man", a name that's been around for nearly 50 fucking years, and instead of you getting the joke that the movie-makers were making about him being "He-Man", you chose to be triggered.

It's like a fucking neon sign "HEY EVERYBODY THIS ADAM GUY IS HE-MAN" and instead of laughing at the joke, you gotta be triggered.

I hope there's some scene where one or more of the characters (preferably Evil-Lyn, obviously) has to contort their legs and hips into unnatural and physiologicallly impossible positions like the figures could do.

Man I wrecked (destroyed) a lot of my He-Man figures making them do all kinds of weird poses and using them as firecracker fodder for my Joes and Star Wars figures, but I took damned good care of my G I Joe and Star Wars figures (almost all of which I still have to this day, and have given to my son). He-Man was third in line behind those two, although I devoured the cartoons, but the toys just didn't do it for me.

I say "my" when in reality I only had He-Man and Skeletor, but I ended up with a massive amount of them, and it felt like the whole lineup. My dad was banging this gal on the side when I was a kid, and she had like a 6- or 7-year-old kid who was a huge He-Man fan. Apparently, he won a big collection of the He-Man toys from some stupid bubblegum contest. I had walked in on my dad and this woman, and in order to buy my silence, she decided to give me this collection of He-Man toys he won (she had had to go the post office to pick them up and hadn't given them to him yet). I felt a little bad and offered to give her a few figures and a vehicle to take to her kid and she could just say the contest was not truthful or something, but she said not to worry about it, just keep my mouth shut and play with them or sell them or whatever (I sold a bunch to buy some G I Joes). From what my dad said, she grabbed a He-Man magazine from a grocery store, threw it in an envelope, dropped it in the mailbox, and then the kid got that fucking He-Man magazine instead.

I still think about it every now and then - it's kind of hilarious that some poor kid got a fucking magazine instead of the whole collection, but as an adult, I do wonder if it fucked up that kid's life, since he might have really been convinced he was getting the whole collection. That has to be crushing. What if he had the whole collection and playing with all of them all the time had sparked some kind of creative streak and when he became an adult, he did something unique/interesting, maybe wrote some fantasy books or something. Instead, he probably ended up with a boring job and a dead-end life. But I digress. With my Joes and Star Wars, I did everything but handle them with kid gloves, but with He-Man, I was the kid next door from the Toy Story movies.

As a child of the 80s I watched the cartoon but didn’t own any of the toys. Never watched the Dolphin Lungren movie either so doubtful I’ll watch this one.
