They aren't just copy and pasting material from the Filmation cartoon and mini-comics like StarWars episode 7 was just the same story as 3 with new characters.

It gives a new story and background for He-Man, and other than a different looking Roboto and a less cartoonish Spikor, the characters all seem to look pretty close to the toys. And it's not a half-assed version like the Lundgren one that ran out of money and had to sneak onto the studio lot to film the final scenes, borrow props/costumes from other movies, and really look/feel nothing like the Masters of the Universe. Plus in that movie we never get to see much of Eternia because of budget cuts as well.

Just in this trailer we get glimpses of TrapJaw, Teela, the Sorceress not just as her person but also as Zoar, BeastMan, Skeletor, Fisto, Man-at-Arms, Ram-Man, Mekaneck, Evilynn, the Collector, Talon Fighter, possibly some of the three towers of Eternia, and not just Grayskull, but Snake Mountain at the end. Plus, we get what the 80s movies never showed us - not just Adam, but Adam transforming into He-Man and yelling "I have the Power!" which the quick image in the trailer of him transforming looked so much like Filmation. Just from what we see, they keep the origins of Marlena Glenn (if you notice it's also his last name on the deskplate) as being from Earth, and the new twist of sending Adam there as a kid to protect him. Then there's the sword he tries to take in the beginning of the trailer - the statue he's trying to pull it from was one of the original mockups for the He-Man character back in the day... oh and the employee of that store - behind her is the Big Jim toy box (which is the toy line that Cringer came from, looked like a normal tiger and they painted him green) just cool little eastereggs like that. And the power sword - as well as Skeletor's havoc staff - look way more like what they ought to compared to the 80s movie.

Yes. I am a MOTU nerd. I loved it as a kid, my current youngest son loves it - he plays with his new toys from the last few years which inspired me to begin restoring all my old toys who had rotten rubber bands in their joints or were slightly deteriorating. So yeah, I may be slightly biased, but it looks like it has a chance to me, it looks like lots of thought went into it for fans, and it seems like it's not going to be some half-assed project like the 80s live action movie.

It appears that Prince Adam is the naive nerd that everyone already knows will become the savior of Eternia. In the trailer he's being told by everyone to take the sword and save the day. It looks like he even transforms right in front of Trapjaw. The beauty of the Filmation cartoon was Prince Adam's penchant for hauling ass when the shit hit the fan a la Clark Kent. His wink wink with the viewer and the supporting character's ignorance of the blatantly obvious is what made it great. IMO you lean hard into the comedy/lampoon of the Filmation ridiculousness in order for this to work as live action.

And the other crucial piece is Skeletor. They've really got to nail his sarcastic dressing-down of his goons. I'm going to be upset if he doesn't call someone a boob. I also will be disappointed if He-Man does not seek the counsel of the wise, toilet-squatting Granamyr.

Although this industry has done nothing lately to earn the benefit of the doubt, I choose to believe it's a self-deprecating wink wink. Rewatching MOTU Revelation and Revolution with my boys right now that we're two months out from the release. This trailer does not make me any less excited. I just hope they don't leave Orko out because we haven't seen him in the trailers yet.

My kids have never heard of He-Man. They didn't really do much after the 80s. It's not like Mario Bros or even Ninja Turtles that have had different iterations over the years so this one is targeted directly to nostalgic adults, right? I saw the preview before the Mario Movie and it looks stupid. Like really, really stupid.

I agree, although my kids both want to see it. They don't really know he-man either, outside of the fabulous secrect powers version.

Yeah, my main experience with He-Man was the action figures. I was too young to watch the cartoon. The original movie was so bad it was good. There was really no reason to remake it. Alison Brie is in the cast, not in the trailer which was a bit of a disappointment.

Those UK taxes are no joke. I’d imagine Elba really needs the money.

Netflix he-man series were pretty decent kids shows.

I don't know why some on here aren't more excited about this. It seems to fold in so many original MOTU themes and ideas, things from the cartoon, from the toy line, from the terrible 80s movie, and even from the 200X series.

I think it's going to be awesome and can't wait to take my sons who each had their time enjoying my old toys and also the 2 new series that came out on Netflix. Plus, now we at least have the possibility of Orko in the lineup as seen in the background of this photo in his Mattel toy packaging... so maybe we get a live-action Orko for the first time?

And ok, maybe I'm being hoodwinked on nostalgia alone? I've spent money on far worse things and spent two hours in far worse ways than enjoying a movie with my boys.

My excitement/enthusiasm has been growing a bit - I've been talking about it with a bunch of high school buddies (we grew up in the prime time of He-Man/G I Joe/etc.) and we've been sharing clips of the 80s cartoons and ads, etc., and it's stunning how cornball/cheesy it was, but that nostalgic feel is there. My son has seen the newer stuff, and is mildly intrigued. Some of my buddies who have younger kids are going to take them. We might actually get together and see it as a group, because if it's truly funny/cheesy, it'll be more fun as a group.

I didn't think the Barbie movie would work and/or the self-awareness would ruin it, but it was great.

I got tickets for me and my 8yo. iMax. Early screening tomorrow at 8pm. I am very excited and everything I've heard, read, or watched about it leads me to be positive walking in.

I've listened to some of the music on youtube and it sounds pretty solid...

A monumental task to make a “good” movie from the first live action IP that was one of the greatest it’s so bad it’s good movies. The costume designer for Teela should have won an Oscar.

Allison Brie is in, well, it doesn’t hurt.

This movie made me go back and watch the Villain Car Pool from Robot Chicken....

I love that I just got to share this experience with my 8yo. He loved it, we loved it. I don't care if I am looking through rose-colored nostalgic lenses. It was fantastic and all that I had hoped for - pulling bits and pieces from the 80s cartoons and toys, the 200x series, European comics, and even the Netflix 2021 release.

If you're on the fence - go and see it.

Make sure you stay to see all 3 scenes during the credits - one at the beginning, middle, and end. They are all worth it.

Ok it looks like they leaned into campy silliness.
