Don't know anything about it or who is organizing, but it has to be done.

Three days notice. Seems solid.

I think the Kent State nationwide stuff kicked off 5 days after without social media or easy access to communication.

But we aren’t at the Kent State level yet, but damned close.

2 or 3 dead in Minnesota < 4 dead in Ohio?

They will open fire on a crowd before this is done, don’t worry. Seriously, that’s pretty much a lock.

Yeah, we are closing in on it.

I mean, in theory we should have been more shocked by Pretti's (and Good's) execution since we saw multiple angles of it happening on our TVs/computers, versus 1970 and a grainy black & white photo of a girl screaming over the corpse of somebody, but it's not 1970 and there weren't literally years building up to it, and 50,000 dead young men and women in a foreign war. This has all happened within just over 4-6 weeks.

The next execution(s) will probably be what really kicks things off. And that's why I disagree with a few people who think the administration doesn't want that. They are continuing to put the pressure on the people and feed an atmosphere where ICE agents are not only outnumbered and hated by everybody, but are poorly trained and unprepared for the kind of shit we saw in the 1960s. There is nothing being done to deescalate.

So how does a retiree participate? I can avoid almost all commerce that day, but I have a funeral to attend an hour and a half drive away. I'll plan as best I can to not need gas or food that day. Otherwise, how do I help?

One day boycotts, work stoppages, or whatever mean very little.

Is the call to not spend any money or call in sick? Perhaps just repeating Monday when many people stayed home due to the ice and cold temps.

If the public really want to get the attention of wall st and Trump, get millions of American to agree to cancel Netflix indefinitely, not buy a new Apple/android product, stop using/subscribing to AI product, cancel your Amazon account and don’t buy from them. Stop using meta/Facebook/tiktok products. A 10% drop in revenue in any of these companies would be an attention getter. But this also won’t happen.

Sorry, but tanking the stock market is not the way. That will hurt the middle class more than it hurts Trump. Hell, his hedge funds probably already own options betting on a downturn, or an upturn in the VIX, so that he'll actually profit from it, or at least it won't hurt him much. And when the stock market scares people, they run to things like real estate and gold, where he already has a ton of money. There's just no way to fuck with a rich person when it comes to investments. It'll hurt our 401k's more than it hurts them, not to mention the employees of those companies.

The work stoppages are a better idea. But it would take unity across a lot of industries. And people had better prepare for the blowback when a narcissist is publicly humiliated like that.

Asking so many people who work by hourly wages or by tips and live paycheck to paycheck to give up a chunk of their weeks money, does not seem like the way to me.

True. If there's a course of action that doesn't also involve shooting ourselves in the foot, I can't think of it. And I'm not sure how much Trump et al even give a shit. They seem perfectly willing to drive the economy off a cliff themselves.

I wasn't implying that a lower stock market impacts Trump personally. But the stock market indices and the Fed rate are Trump's 2 big economic numbers. If the stock market tanks, and it only takes 5-8 companies to tank it, Trump would 100% pay attention and change his tone. Trump become very TACO when the stock market stays lower for an extended time.

Whatever happens, initially we are going to hurt more than the rich. If we work at it, eventually the pain will get to them, one way or another.

Agreed. Also, this is unlikely to be a thing in heavily red states or regions, so it ends up punishing the wrong people.

A better thing to do would be an extended boycott of Amazon and META, or something similar.

Looks like most of the world is already boycotting Tesla:

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tesla-revenue-profit-tumble-cap-220608196.html

Tesla said Wednesday that its adjusted income fell 16% during the last three months of 2025. Its net income tumbled further, plunging 61% in the quarter and 46% for the year, or a $3.3 billion decline.

The company posted its biggest year-over-year sales volume drop ever in the fourth quarter and by far the biggest drop in annual sales at a company that at once been growing at nearly a 50% pace.

Tesla’s earning have fallen in nine of the last 10 quarters. As of 2025, the company’s annual income is only 30% of the $12.6 billion it was in 2022, its peak earnings year.

The brand’s reputation took a hit last year among some American and European buyers – backlash to Musk’s political activities and his close relationship with President Donald Trump. And all US EV sales dropped off later in the year following the elimination of a $7,500 US tax credit for EV buyers.

I know -- I'm a financial advisor. What I'm saying is that the collateral damage from tanking the stock market even 10% is massive, and it touches pretty much everyone in the country in more meaningful ways than it touches Trump and his cronies.

It may be true that there is no less painful way to get the point across than this, but I don't think we've had that conversation yet, and the ramifications of "this" need to be fully understood. It means people losing jobs, others not being able to retire in a year or two as they had planned, and more. If people are thinking we'll just drop the market 10 points, Trump caves, we go back to normal, and the market goes right back up -- it may not be that simple.

And Trump's response to this may not be to cave. It may be to escalate. I'm afraid there will come a time that he no longer has to care about his approval rating. And he's in major cognitive decline, so we can't look at what he's done before as a guide to what he'll do next time. Maybe, but maybe not.

There's a lot to think about, and talk about, here. That's all I'm saying.

When the stock market scares people, the party in charge gets its ass kicked in the next election. That scares the shit out of them more than anything.

The rich will buy the dip. The poor will sell into the dip

lol, no. this was either a dry run for the real thing or a false flag to "show" everyone protests and boycotts don't work

That's been true. In the past. We are entering a period in this country's history where past norms may no longer apply when the rules to the game are fundamentally changed.

Oh well, I guess we shouldn’t even retry. If the citizenry wants to skip straight to executing oligarchs, then I’m down with that too.

Way too short of notice to be anywhere close to effective.

The No Kings people need to plan a protest and strike sometime in August. They need to recruit celebrities and Unions to promote it. A strike can be effective but it has to be well planned with clear instructions and defined goals.

Little Homesick is a freshman at Tivy. Last night before bed, he let me know that the kids were going to do a school wide walkout today, and if he had my permission. It was immediately granted. He said only about a quarter of the student population walked out. Fucking Kerrville.

I'm impressed it was 1/4. That actually gives me some hope. Good for your kid.

I wondered what happened state wide. Here in Houston, the news only reported on Conroe H.S. having a walk out.
