Tell me about Apple News

I browse through a bunch news sites everyday on their websites or apps - AP News, Reuters, BBC, The Guardian, CNN, Politico, etc.

These used to free, but some are now charging subscriptions. Journalism costs money, and I'm willing to pay for it, but don't want to subscribe to a bunch of them and lose track of which I'm paying for.

I asked Gemini and they suggested Apple News. It's $12.99/month. Any of you subscribe and do you think it's worth it?

I have it as part of Apple One (I was paying for Apple TV, iCloud and Music already anyway).

I don’t think I would have subscribed to it on its own. In this day and age of having to pay for news, it is nice. But daily I find some article I want to read that is not part of news and I end up using a paywall bypass as often I as I use Apple news.

Saw thread title, thought you might be talking about Apple Daily News in Taiwan. Am disappoint.

I pay for it, my only complaint is you become subject to another fucking algorithm. I like it when I like it, but it'll pigeon hole you into topics you may not always want. but I'd still rate it 9 out of 10. in some cases I'll see an article I want to read outside of apple news, and I'll go back to apple news and often times find it and be able to read it. sharing is hard even on the apple platform unless folks you share with have the subscription too. but it's very much worth it.

Its worth it if you has apple news as your aggregator.

For now, Google is the news aggregator on my phone. i.e. I open up a new Chrome tab and it shows a bunch of articles that I might be interested in.

I guess my question is more about whether paying the $13/mo can give me access to articles on various news sites without having to pay for each individually.

Paying a nominal fee for your news is a good idea. Less biased. But paying someone to go get it from other sources and feed it to you? Hard pass.

It is convenient and you can explore on your own. It’s also cheaper than the individual subs to 50+ magazines and news outlets so in the end if you manage the algorithm instead of being a passive scroller you’ll have more access and more variety. In other words, there is an algorithm, but it’s more manageable than the Facebook and Instagram shitboxes and I know fuck all about tik tok which is worse I’m told.

I, too have Apple News (I pay $38 a month Apple One so everyone in the house has everything Apple offers). I wouldn't pay the $13 a month or whatever it is for Apple News by itself. I do use it, because you do have access to a lot of stuff that would ordinarily be tucked away in a paywall.

If you already are using Apple Music or one of their other products, then you might bump your plan up to Apple One for a month or so and see what you think.
