The Kennedy Center

Trump: "I have determined that the fastest way to bring The Trump Kennedy Center to the highest level of Success, Beauty, and Grandeur, is to cease Entertainment Operations for an approximately two year period of time, with a scheduled Grand Reopening that will rival and surpass anything."

The Kennedy Center is/was a cultural icon. A "Kennedy Center Honor" was just that; a great honor.

I'm looking at past honorees. It's a who's-who of American Excellence in the arts. Here's a few names from recent years:

Joan Baez. Dick Van Dyke. Garth Brooks. Debbie Allen. Linda Ronstadt. Cher. Wayne Shorter. Norman Lear. Lionel Richie. Al Pacino. Mavis Staples. James Taylor.

He's gonna destroy this just like he's destroyed everything else he's touched. I hate this motherfucker with the heat of a thousand suns.

What better way to distract from the fact that numerous acts have cancelled their appearance at the Kennedy Center by....just shutting down the Kennedy Center for "renovation".

Closing down the Kennedy Center vs letting Kid Rock, Lee Greenwood, Chud Nugget, etc..defile the place is a win for the country. Reopen it once this orange menace is gone.

Firmly endorse closing not just the Kenedy Center but all of America and reopening in 2029 after throwing out old, stinky furniture.

This. Open it back up when they scrape his fucking name off the side and throw a huge party.

#16

There will be nothing to reopen after he razes it citing some obnoxious plans for the Trump Center that never gets built.

An American family in DC made Kennedy Center medals for 47 years and DJT canceled the contract and gave it to Tiffany’s, owned by a French conglomerate.

They can celebrate the anniversary of the vulgar ballroom that same day.

Vulgar, vile, villain: Three-V chess brought to you by the American electorate.

Newly created America would have this for such as he:

Humiliation would be the poetic end, but poetry left long ago.

Imagine being MAGA and watching all your longtime favorite actors and musicians hating Trump but you still contort yourself into sticking with him.

The lack of self-respect is so pathetic and sad.

Wait, are you telling me that Rob Schneider and Ted Nugent have gone woke?

This is typical third-world dictator shit - President-for-Life of a country with a GDP of 'bout tree-fiddy decides to build an international airport (named after him, of course) even though nobody in hell wants to go there; builds a freeway to it even though nobody can afford a car, then tosses in a palatial new presidential palace, a bunch of "cultural" crap named for him, and some gaudy self-aggrandizing monuments to His Nibs.

Oh, wait, that's nothing at all like this. Nope, nothing to see here. Carry on.

It's hilarious that it hasn't even occurred to his dumb ass that his name on that building won't survive him. Or that he's going to be remembered as a corrupt scourge by almost everyone. His legacy is shit.

#31

Yeah, I'm sure they'll keep the name of a twice-impeached convicted felon and child rapist up all over the place. Although I agree that something should stand, as a "It can happen here" monument. A "what the fuck were almost 80 million of you fucking people thinking".

CNN is reporting the real reason Trump is closing the Kennedy Centre for two years is not for renovation: “the Kennedy Center does not have a 2026/2027 season. There would not have been any programming to announce."

Shocking

#35
Q: Do you plan on tearing the Kennedy Center down and how much will all of the renovations cost?

TRUMP: Probably around $200 million. I'm not ripping it down. I'll be using the steel. So we're using the structure. We're using some of the marble.
#36

We're going to spend $200 million public dollars (who are we kidding, it will be $600 million easy) to cover up for the fact that Trump so fucked up the Kennedy Center that nobody wants to play there.

The hits just keep coming, don't they?

It is, currently, an architecturally interesting building.

I shudder to think what Trump will make it into.

The Kennedy Center rebuild is just another bullet point that the Dems can use against the GOP for the midterms. Instead of focusing on bringing down costs, Trump and the GOP are building ballrooms, new entertainment centers, attempting to buy Greenland that will cost trillions not to mention how much they've lined their own pockets.

Dems won't even have to run on issues that may alienate some independent voters. Just run on all of the weird crap that Trump is doing.

#42
Golly gee, oh well. They got me again. What can I do about?

I debated the DtD house, because it is tacky but at least it's fun.

Man this sucks. I saw so many shows at the Kennedy Center.

But in the grand scheme of things going down I guess it is small fry.

NY or another major city will gladly take them in and they'll likely sell out everywhere, if not that, do more shows on the road. Fuck Trump, ignorant asshole.

called it ....

Direct quote from Trump re: Kennedy Center, “I'm not ripping it down. I'll be using the steel. So we're using the structure. We're using some of the marble.” -he’s ripping it down. Stop him or you won’t recognize DC soon.
#48
Congress appropriated $257 million to renovate the Kennedy Center before Trump shut it down. Follow that money and see where it goes.
#49

lol .....

In 1933, Mussolini closed the national opera to “renovate” it. In 1934, Hitler closed the national opera house to “renovate” it. In 1935, Portuguese dictator Salazar closed the national opera house to “renovate” it. What a weird series of coincidences!
