...and this is why I tell people to make sure no one can see anything in your car

Sacra Corona Unita apparently doing work here.

--Marco Rapuano (aged 40), a heavyweight in the Foggian mafia based out of Puglia (Italy) has reportedly become a cooperator. Rapuano, who is perhaps best known for escaping from prison using a rope ladder made of tied sheets, was caught earlier this year as a fugitive.

--Since his capture he has reputedly detailed to authorities how his crew, originating from the town of Cerignola, built a reputation by setting trucks on fire & scattering nails to block roads all in efforts to trap armored trucks & subsequently rip them open with grinders to steal the cash inside (this was followed by rapidly escaping on side roads in high-powered Jaguars and BMWs). Rapuano also confessed to participation in 5 homicides as part of his deal with authorities.

--As part of his cooperation, he also revealed how the large sums of money stolen during the above-described highway ripoffs were spent on herds of cows (and that this practice is/was common amongst other mobs/clans in Puglia). “Every boss had 200 to 300 cows each,” he told authorities. Notably, in at least Rapuano's case, the involvement with cattle was for the purpose of laundering the heist money [with a profit then made on selling the cattle as well as applying for EU farming subsidies].

--The cattle, which were free to roam in national park lands, also served as a useful cover for other aspects of illegal operations. For example, Rapuano was further noted to state that: “With the cows we could take over woodland where we were free to meet and hide cars, kit and guns...”. Further, the cattle were used to assume control of the land of legitimate farmers in the region. The article states (allegedly per Rapuano): “They sent the cows into the fields of farmers who would risk being beaten up if they touched the animals or having their property damaged and livestock killed if they even complained. The mob would follow the cows into these properties and take possession,” he said.
