Feds shutting down airspace around El Paso for 10 days with no notice and little details other than it’s for “National Security”

The FAA is closing the airspace around El Paso International Airport in Texas for 10 days, grounding all flights to and from the airport, for “special security reasons."

The FAA's notice did not provide additional details.

People shit on El Paso, but I always thought it was a cool city. Plus I love the desert. Is it still one of the safest large cities in the US?

‼️‼️ UPDATE: In addition to El Paso, Air Space has also been shutdown around Santa Teresa, New Mexico for 10 days & New Orleans for 5 days citing National Security.

Congress was NOT notified before hand and two members of Congress tell me they are learning of this in realtime.

It's bigger than most people expect too. I have a trip planned for El Paso and Juarez over Spring Break. Unless we start bombing cartels in Chihuahua that is...

First time anything like this has happened since 9/11 and was any airport/airspace closed for 10 days then? Also Im sure this will mess up Juarez' schedule too since they can't land/take-off using US airspace.

#12

It’s probably not more than several frames per airline, but said airlines are not going to be happy about having their planes parked at ELP for the next 10 days.

I read it was two dudes who had beef over some chick named Felina. Apparently there was a shooting at Rosa’s.

I Hope the airlines bring suit against this for an unconstitutional government taking.

Seems like we might all benefit from some additional details before we get all Thomas Henry on it.

This seems like an extreme measure, esp with no warning. If this is some bullshit political game string mofos up. I’m still going with aliens on a taco run.

Woah even the Military doesn't have access to that airspace...

It also means no medevac flights.

El Paso, New Mexico airspace closed by FAA without explan...

The Federal Aviation Administration has closed airspace over El Paso and parts of southern New Mexico for 10 days under a national defense designation, offering no explanation for the rare move.An une

“THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION (FAA) CLASSIFIES THE AIRSPACE DEFINED IN THIS NOTAM AS ‘NTL DEFENSE AIRSPACE’. PILOTS WHO DO NOT ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING PROC MAY BE INTERCEPTED, DETAINED AND INTERVIEWED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT/SECURITY PERSONNEL,” the notices said.

“THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT MAY USE DEADLY FORCE AGAINST THE AIRBORNE ACFT, IF IT IS DETERMINED THAT THE ACFT POSES AN IMMINENT SECURITY THREAT,” the notice continued.

“All air traffic has been halted in a 10 nautical mile range around the airport, so encompassing El Paso and Fort Bliss, from the ground to 17,000 feet. It’s incredibly sad and dangerous that we can’t really even trust what the regime tells us. I automatically think they’re up to something nefarious

Allegedly cartel drone threats against federal targets is what I’m hearing now.

Case in point. I think this is bullshit and is only being used as a pretext to strike within Mexico

Oh yeah that sounds like a logical thing a cartel would do for their longevity

All these decades of growing their empire going out of their way to keep as much of the US federal/military apparatus off their back as they can; they now decide on drone strikes on federal targets while the psychopath squatting in the White House has been opining about striking them within Mexico. Yep checks out

Whatever they say is going to be a lie.

Even if there is a legitimate national security concern, there is no doubt this administration will amplify and exaggerate the threat in order to create a boogeyman to justify their anti-constitutional bullshit.

It's a sad state of affairs that my first thought (and second, third, and fourth thoughts) was, "oh, fuck--ICE is going to invade El Paso now?" rather than any concern about Iran or Mexican cartels or al Qa'ida or anything else of foreign provenance. And I'm sure I'm in the majority on that.

And that right there is a pretty clear indication you're living under a tyrannical regime.

Airline sources told Reuters the grounding of flights in El Paso was believed to be tied to the Pentagon's use of counterdrone technology to address Mexican drug cartels' use of drones of the U.S.-Mexico border. @davidshepardson

Cuz based on the last year of the current regime, they probably are…

I Dont buy the juarez/drug trafficking drone thing

When was the last time an airport and/or airspace was closed for 10 FUCKING DAYS? I dont think thats ever happened before

As someone who was just in Juarez in November and El Paso last week, this is fucking odd. My money is on govt testing/aliens/epstein stuff

so New Orleans was included in the original message, but I dont see that new Orleans airspace is closed... just under tighter flight restrictions for the next 5 days.

and like many of you, no matter what fucking news comes out, i am not going to beleive any of it and will assume its flat out lies or a political move

#44

I don't know why the press hasn't asked about NOTAM 02/057 also released today which specifically states "unmanned rocket activity" scheduled for Feb 14. I would think that important tidbit is germane to this shit.

Hopefully this doesn't have some bullshit ripple effect on other air travel in the country. I'm set to fly to Nashville Friday for the holiday weekend.

Theory: we were testing some of the new anti drone guides rocket systems and the system wouldn't shut down because someone grafted an LLM to it.

Fortunately, El Paso isn't a significant hub city.
