NCAA Eligibility Thread - "You get another year, and you get another year, and you..."

Didn't want to start an NCAA 2026 thread but thought this might be a good catchall for the ridiculousness. A 9th year. this may be trending to infinity years to play 4 if you can document injury for any years since you graduated high school.

Maybe he is getting his medical degree to diagnose his foot and knee injuries that cost him 5 season ending injuries.

The Montana guy does appear to have legitimately missed several seasons due to injury and still has the covid year. It may turn out the elibigility decision is not as problematic as other cases, but considering the injuries, maybe take your 8 years of college education and find a job that doesn't involve risk of blowing up your knee/ankle/whatever else he hurt over the years?

No clue how we got here but I cannot believe this is something he felt compelled to say, out loud, on the record
NEW: Ole Miss coach Joe Judge tells pregnant partners of players during the season that the father has to play good football.

“He needs to be in another room, detached… he ain’t waking up for midnight feedings.”

#11

Jesus Christ. Judge is an Ole Miss grad BTW

The judge in the Chambliss case is still reading his decision. We're at more than 20 minutes of reading. He's critical of the NCAA's conclusions and says it's "clear that Trinidad Chambliss was not a healthy young man" from senior year of high school through 2022. But nothing
#12
The judge says that the NCAA "ignored" evidence from Ferris State over Chambliss' illness in 2022 and the court finds that he was "clearly physically unfit" that season to play college football.

The decision has not been read but it is quite clear.
Based on Judge Robert Whitwell's order - which he is reading live in the courtroom - he plans to grant Trinidad Chambliss' injunction. However, he has not specifically revealed the decision.

To give you an idea of the situation, the NCAA's counsel has already left the court room

There was no way in hell an Ole Miss grad who is a Judge in Oxford, Mississippi was going to rule their quarterback ineligible.

It wouldn't have mattered if he said he was out because of a hangnail, he was going to be ruled good to play.

#15

This isn't a final ruling and can be immediately appealed.

Probably gives chambliss enough leverage to settle favorably in the mean time.

gonna be funny when an aggy judge declares our WKU guard can't play.

I'm serious when I say we should just line him up regardless of what anyone says. as long as he is enrolled in school, play him.

The judge ruling on TN's QB returning for a 6th year is Vol alum.

I Hope I’m not the only one here wondering this.

But how in the hell is Chambliss going through court proceedings for a 5th year while there are literally multiple 6-9 year (yea only one 9th year guy) without court proceedings? This shit is so out of hand.

#21

The majority of the fixes to college football are such poorly executed shit they make the game worse, all the while ignoring the rigging of games.

Because Chambliss doesn't have an actual case, so they go through court proceedings with a sympathetic judge (the OM alum judge was almost in tears reading his decision), while a lot of those other guys who got eligibility past year 5 had legit cases with real documentation - the Montana kid on year 9 had 5 season ending injuries, with medical documentation. Not bullshit "my tonsils hurt so I couldn't play" bullshit.

The NCAA is winning when the facts are clear - a real injury or circumstance led to extra eligibility. The NCAA is "losing" when the only reason for extra eligibility is money related and nothing more.

That Montana LB is just a straight up fucking loser. I’m sorry you were too weak to not have 5 season ending injuries, maybe football was never for you. Grow the fuck up and get a real job. But if you want to continue to destroy your 28 year old body playing 19 year olds and collecting that lucrative NIL money that below average FCS linebackers get, be my guest I guess.

#24

I Don’t disagree. The dude’s body has quit on him 5 times. Take the hint

Like I said on the other thread, I think it helps a lot when the NCAA is trying to enforce some "procedural" rule, like Chambliss didn't seek a medshirt for that season. Or better still, that Seymore lost a season because he transferred out of window and that's a rule that doesn't even exist anymore in the same form.

The other question for Chambliss is was there really a basis for a medshirt, even had he claimed it timely. He seems to have docs willing to testify that he did, so that turns into a battle of experts.

The fact that there's now big money involved doesn't probably change the legal outcome, but it does raise the stakes and tilt the equities a bit toward the player.

Most of those guys got one or more medshirts, a redshirt and a Covid year.

I don't think Chambliss played in the Covid season.

#27

Chambliss is an interesting case. My understanding:

D2 doesn't have the same redshirt rules as D1, and the documentation wasn't needed. It certainly appears that Ferris State assumed he had redshirted medically that season and would have four years to play for them.

Had he been at a D1 school, he probably easily gets the medical redshirt with proper documentation.

Ffor all the absolute bullshit going on in ncaa these days you have a guy like chambliss who is a draw, fans fell in love with his game in cfp, seems like a decent kid, desperately wanting to come back another year and the ncaa is like nah man, fuck that, we got too many g league applicants to approve to think about it.

Unlike Aguilar, who has already been in college 7 years, actually playing 5 seasons, Chambliss has only played 3 seasons, after redshirting the first 2.

So because he wasn't good enough to play at Ferris State one of those two years he should get another year of eligibility?

It wasn’t bullshit when he got the tonsillectomy. That’s not something adults do for shits and giggles

Multiple players have received medical redshirts for things like mono.

Bullshit, he had his tonsils out in 2024 and mono in 2020.

He claims he never "felt good" until the surgery in December of 2024 which is pretty amazing when you consider somehow with all this going on he played in 15 fucking games, had ~4,000 total yards, and lead Ferris to a National title with a 14-1.

Can you imagine what the guy could have done if he felt "good' during the 2024 season.

Based upon this reasoning any college player in central Texas or along the Gulf Coast could claim they are entitled to extra years for Cedar Fever and mold allergies.

NCAA needs to appeal this ruling (Bias by the judge and simply so we can get that moron Joe Judge to testify again.).

One other small footnote, the NCAA supposedly introduced notes from Chambliss' doctor that stated in 2022 he was doing well with the tonsils. Yes, those things can come and go, but if they were such an issue for all those years why not take they out before 2024 when he was under the care of a doctor?

He got a tonsillectomy in 2024. Also, read this article. Whitwell is the Ole Miss grad judge for the case:

In a Mississippi courtroom, however, the case drew obvious sympathy.

So much so that at one point Whitwell seemed to coach Chambliss around one of his answers after Chambliss stumbled in the face of NCAA cross-examination.

When asked by a NCAA lawyer if he was limited in practice during the 2022 season, Chambliss said: "No sir." He participated the entire season on the scout team.

After the cross-examination finished, Whitwell and Chambliss had this exchange:

Whitwell: "In 2022 you just got through saying you didn't have any issues. My understanding is you said you complained to the trainers, and you were out there with the scout team and that you weren't up to par. Were you up to par or not?"

Chambliss: "No sir."

Whitwell: "I didn't understand why you were saying what you were saying a while ago, because 2022 is the year we're looking at. Did you go in and report to the training staff that you were having problems?"

Chambliss: "Yes sir, multiple times."

Whitwell: "Dr. Howard said you didn't have any flare ups. But you still had some swelling from the injections in December after you had three-plus in August of 2022. You still had some swelling, did you not? Was it bothering you or not?

Chambliss: "Yes sir. It was constant. It was like a roller coaster."

The fact that they denied him tells me his case is total bullshit. The NCAA has every financial incentive to go along with his tonsil story and let him play this year. No one would've blinked if the NCAA had said his story was legit from the start.

I’d imagine almost all of the surly legal eagles would recuse themselves in the Chambliss case, but I’m sure he’s up for reelection and needed some juice.

It sucks that he’s on our schedule, but Ole Miss is giving us a road map on how to appeal Seymore if it doesn’t go our way.

This stir a thought, could an alum for another school who is attorney file a legal challenge to Chambliss eligibility?

If I understand the judge's decision was blocking the NCAA decision or maybe I have that wrong.

Not a lawyer, but there are ways to steer it. I’m sure that’s what Ole Miss did here.

Chambliss is being a greedy pussy. He probably gets drafted if he had entered the draft.

I am curious what round he would be taken as I suspect someone around him investigated where he was seen as a prospect.

This is a bad quarterback draft and I really don't see guys like Chambliss and Mateer significantly improving their stock as they seem set on playing a style that works in college, but won't work long term in the NFL.

Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar was denied a preliminary injunction against the NCAA, making him ineligible to play for the Volunteers in the 2026 season, according to court documents obtained by On3’s Chris Low. Chancellor Chris Heagerty, the judge in this lawsuit, ruled from the Knox County Chancery Court on Friday.
