Chicago Bears Possibly Moving to Indiana?

Featured Replies

This was discussed last year in another topic but it has gained some momentum this week. Would be very weird to see the Bears move into a domed stadium.Screenshot_2026-02-20-10-23-10-87_a23b203fd3aafc6dcb84e438dda678b6.jpg

Isn't that part of Indiana just a far-out Chicago suburb? If so, who cares? It's the same as the New York Giants and New York Jets play in New Jersey.

Its a "suburb" in the sense that its 30min from downtown if the traffic is light.

Former heavy industrial area(literal steel mills etc) that now has the remnants of that along with a hand full of Casinos.

I suspect beyond whatever tax incentives are drawing this the ability to offer wagering at the stadium is a motivator.(I don't know the exact specifics of Indiana gaming but just suspect this)

The (Boston) Patriots play in Rhode Island, don't they?

I'm wrong.

Foxoborough, Mass, which is about 20 miles from Providence, RI.

The example is wrong, but you're correct on the precedent. The Jets and Giants play in New Jersey.

Yes, not really some huge deal in terms of the location. As you mentioned the NY teams, you then have others like SF Niners, who actually play in Santa Clara, a good 30min from SF. Bills are in Orchard Park, a suburb of Buffalo. Cowboys haven't played in the Dallas city limits since 1970. And are now even further away from the downtown Dallas area. And being football, there are only 8 home games a year and mostly on weekends. As opposed to basketball and baseball, that play a ton of weeknight games where traffic is much heavier. And people plan football trips well in advance, being centrally located isn't as big of a deal. I think it's much better to have basketball and baseball venues as centrally located to downtown as possible. Unlike the Rangers who sit out in the middle of bumfuck Arlington with zero public transportation.

It would just be weird to see the Bears move to a dome stadium.

At least the Cowboys have always played in Dallas.

Bears have a lot more history downtown than the NY teams when they moved to MetLife. This is more like Polo Grounds/Shea to the Meadowlands move. Hammond/Gary probably have as many dead bodies.

The only question on this is aren't the Bears moving away from the bulk of the population in the Chicago area?

Not that any NFL really gives a shit how hard it is for the fans to get to them, but what the heck. Are they moving all things associated with team.

Pretty rare when you can open it up. But 30 min at 2am. Easy. Normally over hour.

It would be Arlington if that part of Indiana didn’t suck

This would be more painful than anywhere else I think. Not sure any other city has as many major pro sports teams truly located within the city like Chicago does. It's a different experience not having to get some long-ass tollway/highway to get to any of the games. Detroit and Philly are probably next.

Great observation. Just feels different here. Sad day either way, because Arlington Hts may as well be IN.

Houston has all of its pro sports teams (MLB, NBA, NFL, MLS) located inside the loop.

The NFL/Bears want to build a fun area around the stadium, I am guessing similar to The Star in Frisco (I know, practice facility). Supposedly they are asking 800 million from Chicago and I guess that crossed the hand to the face amount.
