2026 SOTU address

This thread is for predictions, and commentary once it starts

Last year's address to Congress was just under 100 minutes, so I'm going with 110.
I think 2 Supreme Court justices will not attend
Biden is mentioning 29 times
The fact checkers due from exhaustion
Trump declares he is the best 71 times

#2

Does he take an intermission for a diaper change?

The general public has not seen Trump in long form in a while. It won’t be a Biden debate moment, but I do think his general lack of coherence (even for him) will be somewhat of a discussion point tomorrow.

I will not waste my time watching him, but I’m mildly interested to see if he has the ability not to talk about the fake polls saying how much everybody hates him. He deeply cares. I think he cares so much he will bring it up.

Because only a total moron would bring up something that focuses on negativity and allows the non- ‘all in on MAGA’ voter to reconsider support after seeing lots of other people have problems with him as well…but he can’t help himself.

I can't deal with a perfect internal storm of shame and fury. I'll catch highlights if there is some protest action.

Otherwise, just fantasies.

Like they have a Manning-cast for MNF, can we have a Jo(h)n Stewart Oliver cast for this? That might be the only way I'd put myself through it.

#12

I'll pass. I'll see plenty of analysis in the next 24 hours to tide me over.

Although, I wouldn't be surprised if he announced an attack on Iran or some other diversionary tactic during the actual address for shock value. After all, it would be the first time a President ever did such a thing, and in his worldview, the greatest thing ever. Once a showman, always a showman.

Nnope

THIS.

SOTU to be *over 2 hours long*, several reliable Republican sources tell me they have been told.

One said they were told 2.5 - 3 hours (!!), though that is the high end and could be a reverse jinx attempt.

All I know is that I won't bother watching because I know what is coming but if the Democrat Response doesn't start with:

They are really missing the fucking boat.

Fox News and GOP boot lickers will call it the greatest State of the Union ever and compare it to the Gettysburg Address.

The only question is which of them does it the quickest?

#16

That dude can barely get through a 30 second response without trailing off on some bullshit. 2 hours is going to be painful. Hopefully he’ll stroke out from the effort.

You ask this question as if you dont think they haven't already pre-recorded their response.

oh yeah they already have them typed out and a staffer ready to hit "post" as soon as it's over.

Bottom left is a free space because he will spend the entire time complimenting himself

I predict he’s going to lie.

Long political speeches by dictators are designed to project power, manipulate narratives, and demand loyalty, often lasting for hours to overwhelm audiences with propaganda and pseudo-intellectual justifications. Famous examples include Hitler’s rambling, hours-long addresses, and Putin’s extensive annual call-in sessions.

  • Adolf Hitler (Nazi Germany): Known for speeches lasting 2-3 hours.

    • January 30, 1939 (Reichstag): A famous 2.5-hour speech predicting the "annihilation of the Jewish race".

    • September 1, 1939 (Reichstag): Justified the invasion of Poland.

    • January 30, 1941 (Berlin Sportpalast): A long, rambling address mocking foreign critics.

  • Vladimir Putin (Russia): Known for very long, "lead-heavy" televised call-in shows, sometimes lasting nearly five hours.

  • Key Characteristics: These speeches often utilize intense emotional manipulation, intense ranting, and specific, staged theatricality to maximize impact on the crowd.

These speeches are not just communication but tools of "totalitarian, anti-democratic" control, designed to establish a "cult of personality".

Tiffany Trump has spent an awful lot of money to look like Temu Sidney Sweeney.

And Barron looks frighteningly like a young Donald. Yeesh.

Oh god even though he's not a cabinet member, Rick Perry just announced himself as the designated survivor. God help us.

Given the current cabinet, I think I'm ok with this.
