Are we sure that Swain is gone? He is right on the edge of 1st / 2nd round in the projections I have seen... Here are a few:

  • 21 - No Ceilings

  • 26 - Babcock Hoops

  • 29 - ESPN

  • 30 - NBA Draft Room

  • 31 - Tankathon

  • 31 - The Athletic

  • 33 - CBS - 33

If he is drafted #30, he will have a 2 year guaranteed salary at ~$2.8M. If he slips to the 2nd round, he won't have a guaranteed deal and it will likely be in the $2.1M range. If he can improve to pick ~15, his salary will jump to $4.8M guaranteed for 2 years.

There is some buzz that a decent NIL deal is headed his way if he stays. Mid-Tier SEC stars are making in the $2.5 - $3M range, and he would be one of the top returning players.

Additionally, 2026 is a VERY good draft, maybe even a historic draft. The 2027 draft is projected to be much weaker. If Swain developed into a legit threat from 3 and improved his defense, I could see him moving up significantly in the draft. He is already a very versatile and intelligent player. And if we return our key players after a S16 or better run, the attention on the program will also be much greater.

A lineup of: Wilcher, (Elite SG transfer), Swain, Codie, Voketitis plus Heide and the talented freshmen and we could really have something. Especially with Codie stepping up lately and playing well at the 4 with Vok at the 5.

Winning is always gonna get you top portal kids as well so keep winning. I thought swain was gone but I’d gladly have him back. Need a portal PG for sure though.

I would assume making a second weekend run with this roster would convince the money guys (and the KD money) that Miller can win if they invest.

Nigel James Jr. wants everyone to save their edits of him in other jerseys.

I guess he could be money-whipped, but whatever MU basketball has in NIL, he's probably getting it.

Also, I have no idea what the true odds on texas winning it all are, but we're a better f'n bet than 250-1, so I'm giving back a portion of my Texas ML winnings from this weekend. ....or am I?

57.1% from three while averaging 1.5 attempts per game. Still a small sample, but we can work with that!

It is crazy that the odds that I can get at my offshore sportsbook are better today than I could get before the season started, and there are only 16 teams left that can win it and we are relatively healthy. Take our exact same roster and give us a 6-7 seed and the odds are much different. But we shit the bed in spectacular fashion coming down the homestretch and end up with an 11 seed. I realize futures bets are sucker/crapshoot bets for fun, but these odds seem a bit fucky....

I had to throw something down on the horns out of principal, and by this evening I'll probably have talked myself into a bigger bite from the apple.

#24

What a weird statement to make. Undervalued at 27mpg? Playing at Florida and a number 1 seed? If you want to be the man go back to Princeton and you can get 17-20 shots a game but if you go to any top team with other top players you’re gonna have to spread the wealth out some but he was 3rd on shot attempts per game? Wtf does he want? Anywho come to Texas.

Swain will be back in my opinion.

we would have to offer him millions, and even then he’d still probably leave as a borderline first round pick. it’s not going to happen.

I just do not think he is first round material at this time but the NBA is stupid and drafts on potential all of the time.

#36

Definitely should come back but he won’t. I’m excited about our freshmen. Will still need some major transfers though. For some reason I’m worried vok could get poached. He didn’t seem to close to the team.

What about this guy from England that's a seven-footer, Lewis Obiorah, does he have potential, would hope so since Miller went out and got him, but redshirted him.

I bet people didn't know we actually had four centers on this team at the start of season, if Codie is counted as a center.

#39

Yay?

Nic Codie on what he expects for next year’s Texas team. Says Matas Vokietaitis will be returning.

“I’ll be here next year. Bo Ogden, Austin Goosby, those are my guys. We got Matas coming back, Cam coming back, Declan (Duru), Lewis (Obiorah).”
#40

They had their limitations, but we are going look up at some point next season and miss having dudes like Pope and Mark who played in a million games and weren’t afraid of big moments.

They need to nail the backcourt rebuild, and it probably needs to be a complete reset (wish Wilcher well somewhere else).

Same. More of a fear I suppose though because of how much Matas improved this year and how much untapped potential is left. Here’s hoping UNC doesn’t come calling with a big coaching hire and 5 mil.

I don’t know shit about fuck, but Swain I could see coming back if he doesn’t love his draft grade. He followed his coach here from Xavier. He must value Miller’s coaching and the first year of an early 2nd draft slot is easier to match/exceed. He made strides on his 3 this year. If he’s a 40+% shooter from 3 next year, it will help his cause a lot.

This is such a revisionist take. Those guys helped fuel a crazy, borderline EE run across four games but they were a huge part of the reason that Texas almost missed the tourney completely. In case anyone forgot.

Texas absolutely can and needs to upgrade in those spots moving forward.

And if Swain is coming back someone is going to be writing a check for $6M. But he's not coming back because someone is taking him in the first round.

Vok needs to be retained. He could be first team all-league next season.

#44

I'd take Wilcher and Heide back in a heartbeat at a reasonable number.

Having Nic Codie and Cam Heide as your primary guys playing the 4 for the entire season, Traore getting hurt/disappearing, Wilcher running around like a chicken with his head cut off and Matas having random games where he couldn’t stop fouling cost this team a lot more than anything Pope and Mark did.

Nic Codie STARTED against Duke and was talked up as the most improved player in the program. A month later, he went 8 straight games where he didn’t even see the floor and really only started playing again because Traore got hurt/quit/whatever. That misevaluation alone really had us swimming upstream all year.

#47

What's the story with Lewis Obiorah? I only went to one game this year but he was stroking 3s in the warmups at 7'1. Looks like he needs to add weight but he's as tall as Matas with a good looking shot. Don't think he played at all though.

Gerry said in that article linked above that he is still a ways off from being able to contribute at a school like Texas

#49

So, what will it take for keep our boy Matas? Did Codie give it away in the post game that they the crew is returning or was that just wishful thinking?

#50

What is story on John Clark? Can he contribute? So rare to see a top 40 recruit get redshirted these days, particularly on a team that was bereft of elite talent beyond Swain.

With the wild west of NIL, can Swain stay in the draft then if he is second round to a bad fit (or undrafted) come back? If so, just leave that door cracked.

Go get Shelstad and a rim protector (bonus if he can hit the occasional three), and roll
