Ha! I saw him do a couple of those country tunes on some late night shows. They were good. Better than The Killers for sure.

So I just saw The Killers play Read My Mind on some bullshit stage.

Up there with coolest ACL moments ever for me.

In all seriousness, I'm glad you got to see something that important to you. It's what makes ACL (and all live music) great.

I've already seen them twice. It was just very cool to run across. My cousin who I'm with felt bad during Amyll so we left early, got a bite to eat, then headed towards Miller and I was like - oh hey! - that's Brandon Flowers. And then I'm like - oh fuck - that's The Killers.

My daughter's band toured with Amyl, they are cool peeps. Not my favorite music but cool peeps.

I moshed there and I moshed a lot at Tusntile.

Skrillex was incredible.

Dude Turnstile. My buddy got us a spot one behind the rail. What an amazing show. I'm always fascinated how the hardest shows have some of the best audience vibes.

Amyl sounded like they started a little off and then it kicked in. Watching two influencer type moms in VIP with three preteens girls who were dancing to Jerkin' was baffling. Like, are y'all paying attention to the lyrics?

Also, I love the people who comment that there's no rock at ACL. Sure.

ACL on Friday and SNL today is certainly a quick turn for Turnstile.

Yeah they mentioned it on stage. Might catch them again on W2

I had a similar thought about the crowd vibe after running into some whiny assholes at Skrillex. But then everyone else at Skrillex was cool. Pretty much everyone I met yesterday was cool. Great vibes in general. Two people gave me their numbers without me asking or trying lol.

i.e. - "man I didn't run into ANY of this at Amyll or Turnstile"

I think part of it is people just expect to get hit or bumped into or knocked around a little bit so everyone gives each other some grace. I mean there's always that one guy that takes it too far in the mosh pit but even that guy no one's like trying to beat up or get mad at.

Have really been enjoying Palace- never heard of them before but so far the entire set has been great imo. Full disclosure- I'm listening/watching on the live stream. After 22 years of attending the festival I've stepped away for the last 2 years- not because "ACL sucks now" or anything related to the music, I think I just reached a burnout point... but having the live stream option has been super nice as a vicarious festival experience.

Cheers to all y'all out there this weekend!

I see on the schedule that Levity is currently playing on one of the stages at the ACL Festival. One of the guys in Levity, PJ Carberry, was a next-door neighbor for several years along with his dad when I lived in Pasadena. The music they make (EDM/dubstep) is not really my cup of tea, but PJ is a great kid and it's been fun to see Levity take off for him and his friends.

They played Red Rocks the night before. According to PJ's dad, they killed it there as well.

Watched a little on the Hulu streams yesterday. Bleachers were great as per usual. Going to catch Geese, Sofi Tukker, The xx and War on Drugs this evening.

#121

Certainly got their work cut out to prep for the upcoming weekend. At least the weather looks good all of this week thru the weekend.

Note to ACL booking. Try to get bands that people have ever heard of next time. Also make sure your headliners have more than 1-2 songs people know so they don’t have to play 7 nation army.

k thanks

Yeah, it was. I had a great time and saw tons of people having a great time, too. Lots of smiles, good attitudes and people leaning into the chaos. Can't wait for weekend two, dust, mud, or whatever. I find the biggest complainers are ACL are the ones that don't attend.

OK grandpa.

"Twenty One Pilots has achieved 14 career number-one hits on Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart and 3 top-ten hits on the US Billboard Hot 100"

I was inside the gate volunteering when they opened on Sunday and watched their fans sprint to get to the barricade. Just because YOU don't know the bands doesn't mean they're not huge. Your parents probably didn't know most of the bands you listened to. The best part of ACL is finding new bands (21 Pilots is far from new) but I know that's been what I love about it. Yes, the acts I know but also the acts I don't know. I can thank ACL for Turnstile.

Sorry Stevie Nicks or Paul McCartney aren't making an appearance anymore.

Levity W1 - I'm going to definitely get closer W2

Did anyone else catch Turnstile on SNL? I thought they were great. I've been following them for a couple of years but haven't seen them live. They get labeled "hardcore" and that never made much sense to me just based on music videos. Seeing them live on the SNL stage answered the question. I need to go to an actual show.

I'm not really a fan.

My wife and I watched a bit of the streams this weekend, mostly last night. Enjoyed Sofi Tukker, Geese, The xx and War on Drugs last night alone. The xx followed by WOD was quite enjoyable capper to the weekend. The xx is worth the Sunday ticket price alone IMO. Then we watched the last 15 mins of Parcels. A group of our friends went and saw them Friday in Dallas. I listened to a bit before and decided to pass. I really enjoy the music but I'm not a big fan of the vocals.

#129

Interesting. I find The xx to be utterly boring, and they don't sing very well on top of their "indie pop" tracks rolling live. To each their own I suppose. War On Drugs don't lift my skirt, either. I'll check out Sofi Tukker, thanks.

I have tried to like the xx, but I just can't get there from here.

I didn't catch too much of Sofi Tukker. I'm not terribly familiar but some friends love them. The chick (Sofi) is pretty hot.

As far as The xx goes, I'm a sucker for British music like that. Their catalogue is very sparse. They only have three albums and the first one came out in 2009. Part of the allure for me is the long break they took from playing together.

#132

Yeah, we watched Sofi Tukker after switching from Geese. I love girls that play guitar. I suspect the girl in Geese is a better guitar player, but Sophie looked much better doing it.

We also enjoyed Saint Motel. Never heard of them, but they were fun.

I like XX but their style of music which I think is totally listenable and chill doesn't seem like it would translate well to a live show. War on Drugs - full agreement. Sofi Tukker puts on a great show and have seen them twice so definitely can recommend. They are a party. You should check out Saint Motel, too, on Sunday and maybe Rio Kosta.

I'm volunteering this weekend - should catch up while there.

Wish I could but I'm working 7 days/week at this point. Startup life.

#136

So, who is on your radar for W2? I need to take a closer look like based on my volunteer schedule this is probably Friday:

Almost Heaven in Tito's OR Brigitte Calls Me Baby on AX although that one is hard b/c of my schedule

WORK

Turnstile (again) on T-Mobile

Maybe try to sneak into the side of Steve Aoki at Tito's (except a total shitshow there)

Probably Live on Beatbok. I don't know.

Some of Kings of Leon before I take off since I have to be there Saturday morning

Any of you guys have a parking hookup at ACL? I had a buddy who lived behind Zilker but he moved to Portland without so much as a courtesy, “you’re gonna have to find a new place to park you freeloader!”

I mean, we all have our secrets. I'll just say I like parking north of the river. That said, I haven't done it before but I would probably try parking "deep" in the Ziler neighborhood. I'm not sure at what point they try to block off streets. Anyone know? This might be a @KaiserSoze question on that specific hood. Like, if you're back my Margaret st, is that blocked off?

Those Karens will get you towed.

I have always been happy parking at Park Hills Baptist Church at the corner of Mopac and Bee Caves. It is extremely easy in easy out if you live north of the river.

LOL... well so some of my question is, at some point, there has to be a safe zone. Are we talking 1 or 2 or 3 might be safe or is it all "no go" ?

spot hero parking downtown and walk over. it's barely over a mile. the shuttle is also very easy.

#145

I knew someone who lived in that neighborhood for years. They had ways of making cars disappear. I think the city helped them out.

There's a SpotHero lot just north of Bee Caves Road on the west side of MoPac that's less expensive -- $25 tomorrow. It's an easy walk. I have a friend who used to live further west on Rollingwood Drive and we'd park at his house, and even that was an easy walk.

#147

Thanks y'all. Parking taken care of. Now I just hope the fields of mud have had a chance to dry out a bit.

No spot is safe to park here without permission- they have signage and barricades up throughout this entire area warning people they'll be towed- and they tow pretty quickly.

The only way to "safely" park in this area without being towed is to find someone with a driveway they'll let you use- some folks offer space for $$ and will have a sign saying how much.

I'll stick with my safe option

#150

Definitely do.

Long long ago they'd allow parking on 1 side of some of the wider streets but eventually decided even that was too much of a potential issue/hinderance for emergency vehicle response.
